Releases: Tryanks/tcode
Release list
v0.1.58
Release notes
Update every device together
This release changes the host–client protocol (version 6 → 7). A desktop host, phone app or browser tab on v0.1.57 or earlier cannot connect to a v0.1.58 host, and the reverse. Update the machine and every paired device together.
Faster long lists
Lists that grow with your data now lay out only the rows on screen. On a phone, the command palette behind + no longer stutters while you scroll or type; before, it built a row for every thread on every frame. The Grouped sidebar, branch and model pickers, the @ / / / $ menu, the commit dialog, the ACP marketplace and the project-icon grid work the same way now. Long code blocks and lists in Markdown, expanded Work Logs and inline file-edit diffs render in a fraction of the time. Inline diffs also scroll horizontally instead of clipping long lines.
Popup menus stay inside the window and scroll. Up and Down now move the highlight in the @ / / / $ menu.
Running threads open correctly
Opening a thread while its agent is working shows the working indicator and timer, and a pending question or approval, whichever arrives first. Opening a running thread no longer downloads its whole running turn.
Under the hood
Tcode now runs on gpui-fast, which draws a view again only when it changed.
Platform notes
-
macOS 12+: release builds are Developer ID signed and notarized when the maintainer has configured signing credentials. If you downloaded an unsigned build, clear Gatekeeper quarantine after moving the app to Applications with:
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Tcode.app -
Windows: Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime is required. It is included with Windows 11.
-
Linux: requires ALSA, Fontconfig, Wayland/X11 client libraries, libgbm, the Vulkan loader, and a working Vulkan ICD/graphics driver.
-
Android: the arm64 APK is signed with the project's release key and installs over previous releases signed with it. A build signed with a different key (a local build, or a release from before the key existed) must be uninstalled first.
-
iOS: not published yet.
Packages are uploaded as soon as each platform build completes. macOS artifacts are
architecture-specific. Windows MSI/NSIS and Linux AppImage packages are not currently
produced. SHA256SUMS.txt is added after every platform package has finished.

Downloads removed — please use v0.1.57 instead. This release made a steer sent after a message disappear until the agent's next activity, so its packages have been taken down. v0.1.57 fixes it.

Traverse
This release ships Traverse, the connectivity layer that lets a phone, tablet or another desktop reach your machine from anywhere. It is what the redesigned Machines page and one-step pairing are built on, and it is the reason the tcode-traverse binary sits next to tcode-headless in the assets below.
What it is. A Tcode machine (your desktop, or tcode-headless on a server) hosts your projects and agent CLIs. A device connects to it and gets the same threads, approvals and Preview. Traverse is how the two find each other and stay connected:
- Lookup. The machine publishes a signed record of where it can be reached, keyed by its machine id, to a pkarr store over HTTPS. A device resolves that id through the same store. There is no DNS and no account: the record is signed by the machine's key, and anyone who knows the id can read it, but it contains only the relay URL. Direct addresses are never published; they are exchanged inside the encrypted connection.
- Relay. When no direct path exists yet, or UDP is blocked, traffic goes through an iroh relay over HTTPS. The relay sees two endpoint ids and an encrypted stream; it cannot read it. As soon as hole punching finds a direct route the connection switches to it, and the Machines page shows LAN, Tunnel or Relay (‹region›) so you can see which path you are on.
- Nothing on the device side. The invitation you scan carries the machine's Traverse URL. A phone can use one machine on the official service and another on your own instance at the same time, and a device whose machines are all offline-only never contacts any service.
Three modes, one setting per machine, in Settings → Remote → Traverse or tcode-headless serve --traverse official|off|<url>:
| Mode | What happens |
|---|---|
| Official (default) | Uses the manifest bundled with Tcode and refreshed from the repository. Today it lists n0's public relays (na-east, na-west, eu, ap) and n0's pkarr relay. These are rate-limited and carry no uptime guarantee. |
| Self-hosted | Fetches <base>/relays.json from your instance and uses its relays and lookup only. It never falls back to the official service. If the instance is unreachable, hosting still starts: the LAN works, the invitation carries direct addresses only, and the manifest is applied the moment a background refresh gets it. |
| Off | No relay, no lookup, no outbound traffic to any service. The invitation carries the machine's current addresses, and devices on the same network find the machine again through the LAN advertisement. |
A device that connected once remembers how it got there: the direct addresses that worked, newest first, and the relay. The next launch starts from what worked last, so a machine that has not moved stays reachable even if the lookup record is stale, and a machine whose LAN address changed is found again without any service.
Self-hosting. tcode-traverse is one binary that is a complete instance: an iroh relay with QUIC address discovery on UDP 7842, the pkarr store, and the relays.json manifest, all behind one domain and certificate (Let's Encrypt built in, or your own certificate, or plain HTTP behind a reverse proxy you already run). It is the same server the official instance would run; there is nothing only an official instance can do. It has per-IP rate limits on the store, a per-connection byte limit on the relay, Prometheus metrics, and an optional region lock that keeps the relay for the clients close to it. Run it with:
tcode-traverse --print-default-config > traverse.toml # set hostname, contact, data_dir
tcode-traverse --config traverse.tomlthen point a machine at it with Self-hosted Traverse and the base URL, or tcode-headless serve --traverse https://traverse.example.org. Devices need no change. The full guide, including what each party can see in each mode and what happens offline or when a relay refuses you, is in docs/remote.md; the server's configuration, TLS modes, limits and metrics are in the tcode-traverse README.
Also in this release for remote use. Pairing is one step: scan the QR, or paste the link, and the device connects. The invitation now lives on the Machines page in the sidebar, next to the machines you have added, and Settings → Remote only configures hosting. The Android APK is signed with a fixed release key from this version on, so future releases install over it without uninstalling (a build from before this key must be removed once).
What's Changed
- Sign Android release APKs with a fixed release key by @Tryanks in #510
- Move connecting to the Machines page and pair in one step by @Tryanks in #511

Downloads removed — please use v0.1.54 instead. This release shipped an unfinished remote-connection UI and an Android APK signed with a throwaway key, so its packages have been taken down. v0.1.54 fixes both.
