expanding command and mcp tool rows previously showed only their input because the thread stream withheld output and the clients never fetched it back. web, desktop's shared web client, and mobile now request the persisted result when the row opens; running rows fetch once and refresh at completion. reads and skills use the same path, and rows without available detail lose their disclosure.

the shared rpc reads through thread management and bounds each fetched command or dynamic input/output value to 256 kib. provider fixes preserve grok search queries/sources, fetch and search previews, antigravity command output, claude stdout/stderr and background acknowledgements, and failed edit/search errors. old rows cannot recover content the provider never persisted.

verification: the existing opencode adapter search test now covers empty glob and queryless whitespace web search; it, scoped lint, and server typecheck pass on blacksmith at 10af405920. all 25 wire-projection tests pass in blacksmith ci at 33e58e5932, including the command-input cap; lint, typecheck, and build pass too. two independent gpt-6-astra source reviewers approve this head. ci test, lint, typecheck, and build jobs passed at the preceding c62d16cd. blacksmith ci reran all 11 cursor adapter tests and both replay contract tests after the final path-label fix. a separate earlier testbox run also passed those 13 tests, server typecheck, and scoped lint (one existing warning). read, command, and mcp expansion were exercised through the real rpc against copied provider data, including dark/light and 390px web layouts; 21 empty legacy grok rows were noninteractive. native mobile remains unverified because device access is disabled; individual provider integrations were not all rerun live.

read expansion recorded with the display layer applied:

implemented with claude opus 5.5 in claude code; continued and reviewed with gpt-6-astra in the codex harness, through t3 code.

The thread stream withholds tool output to stay small. Wire items now flag
withheld output, and orchestration.getTurnItem returns one persisted item
with its input and output bounded to 256 KB.
Grok X and web searches keep their query and sources, Grok fetches keep the
page text, Antigravity shell calls keep their output, OpenCode searches keep
their matches, Pi edits keep their patch, and Claude WebFetch keeps a preview
of the fetched page.
… expand

Web and mobile fetch withheld output when a row opens and only offer a
disclosure when the item has something to show.
…-on-expand

# Conflicts:
#	apps/web/src/components/chat/V2ItemInspector.tsx
Claude's Bash result arrives as { stdout, stderr, interrupted, ... }. Store stdout and stderr as the command output, unwrap rows already stored as json, and drop MCP structuredContent, which repeats the text result.
…ten tool output fallbacks

getTurnItem now goes through the projection store, orchestrator and ThreadManagementService instead of a query module in the ws handler. WebFetch's text preview no longer applies to WebSearch and takes the fetched url from the tool input. Repeated JSON lines in tool output are kept. Empty search results and a deleted item no longer render blank.
…h once

Read and skill rows keep their paths or arguments and now show the output the timeline withheld. A running item fetches once and again when it finishes instead of on every update. Empty fetched output says so. The legacy Claude bash unwrap only applies to the real result shape, and MCP structuredContent shows when the text content is empty.

Approvability

Verdict: Not approved

Macroscope's review found this PR not approvable — This PR introduces a cross-cutting on-demand tool-output RPC and changes server projections, provider adapters, and web/mobile expansion behavior. The new detail path includes an unresolved High-severity resource-exhaustion concern for very large structured values, and the RPC authorization change is security-sensitive.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The change adds a thread-scoped RPC for retrieving turn-item details, marks withheld output in wire projections, and updates provider adapters to project additional tool results. Mobile and web work logs use the retrieval path to display fetched details and output states.

Changes

Turn-item details and tool projections

Layer / File(s) Summary
Withheld output contract and wire projection
packages/contracts/src/orchestrationV2.ts, apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/WireProjection.ts, apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/WireProjection.test.ts
Turn-item contracts add outputOmitted metadata and the getTurnItem request and result schemas. Wire projections mark withheld command and dynamic-tool output, bound fetched detail, and retain failed-edit errors.
Thread-scoped detail lookup
apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/ProjectionStore.ts, apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/Orchestrator.ts, apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/ThreadManagementService.ts, apps/server/src/ws.ts, apps/server/src/auth/RpcAuthorization.ts, packages/contracts/src/rpc.ts
The store, orchestrator, and thread-management service add item lookup by thread and item ID. The WebSocket RPC exposes the lookup with orchestration read authorization.
Provider tool result projections
apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/Adapters/*, apps/server/scripts/acp-mock-agent.ts
ACP, Claude, Cursor, OpenCode, and Pi adapters project additional search, fetch, command, and file-change output. Tests and mock-agent fixtures cover these results.
Client detail fetching and work-log display
packages/client-runtime/src/work-log/*, packages/client-runtime/src/state/orchestration.ts, apps/web/src/components/chat/*, apps/web/src/state/queries.ts, apps/mobile/src/features/threads/thread-work-log.tsx, apps/mobile/src/lib/threadActivity.ts, apps/mobile/src/lib/threadActivity.test.ts, apps/mobile/src/state/queries.ts
Shared helpers determine which items need detail fetching and format tool values. Mobile and web work logs fetch and render available details, including loading, error, unavailable, and empty-output states.

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to 33e58

Expanded tool rows can retrieve available output, while rows without output remain non-expandable. No actionable issue remains before normal merge checks.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 10af4

The new detail request uses existing environment permissions and checks that the requested item belongs to the supplied thread. No unauthorized disclosure was established. Risk remains low rather than minimal because response limits are not comprehensive and failure, recovery, and mixed-version behavior were only partially verified.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — An authenticated caller with orchestration:read can request persisted detail across threads in the connected environment when identifiers are known. The documented boundary is the environment, not an individual project. Tool results may contain sensitive command, file, or external-tool data; no expansion into another environment was established.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • observed — The suspected mismatched-thread lookup path is countered in both storage implementations: SQL filters by thread and item together, and the in-memory implementation selects the thread before matching the item. This rejects that substitution path without treating identifier pairing as caller authorization.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The WebSocket connection installs scope authorization from its authenticated session. getTurnItem requires orchestration:read, like getThreadProjection, and the shared authorization layer checks the required scope before execution. There is no additional per-thread owner check in the detail service.
  • observed — Fetched command and dynamic-tool output in the web output component is rendered as React text inside a pre element, rather than interpreted as HTML. This limits markup injection for that inspected display path.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — The mobile request carries environment, source thread, source item, and revision. The shared atom family keys by environment and the complete input and observes connection/session state before requesting data. These controls counter cross-row cache substitution, although late-response cancellation and same-environment session-change behavior remain incompletely verified.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Define whether the detail contract promises selected-value limits or a whole-response budget. If a whole-response guarantee is intended, enforce it consistently across item variants and account for encoding and truncation-marker overhead.

scratchyone added a commit to scratchyone/t3code that referenced this pull request Oct 5, 2026
Integrates with pingdotgg#15505: command rows use the live output panel (and skip
the raw final-output fetch) when the server streams command output; all
other tools and older servers keep pingdotgg#15505's fetched output. Uses pingdotgg#15505's
ProjectionStore.getTurnItem instead of a duplicate, and keeps its Claude
Bash output function with this branch's newline-aware stdout/stderr join.

- Claude rows stored before pingdotgg#15505 keep their raw Bash result JSON; the
hub unwraps it, since the live panel replaces pingdotgg#15505's fetch that did.
- A Claude task_started without is_backgrounded counts as foreground.
- SOS (ESC X) is a string sequence, hidden until its terminator.
- The output-frame contract says frames carry terminal text that clients
  must feed through appendTerminalOutput.

Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

* fix(pull-requests): PR detail reads no longer drain the GitHub quota (pingdotgg#16280)

Takes over pingdotgg#13841. A PR query refreshes on the server's refresh signal only while something reads it, and the server shares detail, activity, and preview for 60 seconds, or 10 minutes once merged.

Favicons in ProjectEnrichmentService now keep for 15 minutes. Repository identity keeps its 1-minute TTL, so remote changes still show within a minute.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

* fix(server): Claude limits load again for users with large transcript histories (pingdotgg#16358)

The Claude capabilities probe now asks for usage with skipBehaviors, so it no longer scans every local transcript and misses its 4 s deadline. Takes over pingdotgg#14456.

* chore(contracts): take the Moatless V2 backend into the upstream merge

Regenerate the threads.getShell fixture as a V2 row, decode it as the RPC
layer does, drop four UnsupportedMethodError entries the V2 backend now
serves, and reconcile docs/fork/gaps.md with soaplabs/moatless#1068.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* test(contracts): decode a Moatless V2 thread projection fixture

The fixture comes from the moatless feat/t3code-v2-timeline-and-sessions
branch and holds every timeline item kind it translates tool calls into,
its plans, and the provider rows that let a client steer a running turn.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* ci: run the contracts tests in the Typecheck workflow

Its Moatless fixtures are the one check that a backend response decodes
against the schemas the client reads, and the package is small enough for
the 4 CPU / 8 GiB runner.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* ci: run the contracts tests before the typecheck

The runner loses contact during pnpm typecheck, which skipped the
fixture decodes queued after it.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* test(contracts): decode the V2 projection's node rows

Regenerated from soaplabs/moatless#1071 at ed50318e, which backs every
rootNodeId and nodeId with a node row.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* docs(fork): narrow the V2 gap to what moatless#1071 still refuses
