linux local-build.sh script is up ^ |
|
I've added a script to create an appimage that can be used by users to more easily build WiiCompiled. Here is a link to the current prebuilt version: https://github.com/theofficialgman/testing/releases/download/gmans-releases/WiiCompiled-Setup-x86_64.AppImage Next thing to add is support for detecting dolphin-tool from flatpak (since that is the official release target from the dolphin developers for linux) rather than relying on a system PATH install (which would only exist if the user built dolphin from source). Alternatively, why can't we use nod through aurora for this @patchzyy ? Seems that should be pretty low lift and should reduce the dependency count/size on both windows/linux? |
I don't know if this is related to that build, but I get this error when launching the RetroRewind build: I built using this command: |
|
I haven't yet tested retrorewind. I assume that wiicompiled itself (the base game) is working fine for you? |
using nod through aurora is a good call, referenced it in #44 |
|
switched to standalone nod tool rather than through aurora since aurora doesn't expose everything needed with the tool and doesn't have support for every architecture in its builtin hardcoded list. this is a simpler swap from dolphin-tool to nod tool this way. |
|
@DrBellubins not sure what you did to come up with the command list for retro rewind. In any case, I refactored the installation to better align with the flag naming conversions of the windows installer (so re-download the appimage). wget https://github.com/theofficialgman/testing/releases/download/gmans-releases/WiiCompiled-Setup-x86_64.AppImage
chmod +x WiiCompiled-Setup-x86_64.AppImage

Include the resolved translator in translation_fingerprint.
This fingerprint excludes the translator executable or DLL. An AppImage update can replace translator-cli but preserve generated/ and translation-provenance.json. The next build then reuses output emitted by the old translator. This can compile stale translation output or fail after a translator format change.
Hash the resolved translator_bin or translator_dll into translation_fingerprint.

Define _GNU_SOURCE for the Linux runtime target.
runtime/CMakeLists.txt defines only NOMINMAX, while runtime/src/guest_flat_memory.cpp uses glibc’s memfd_create() and MFD_CLOEXEC. Without an external _GNU_SOURCE definition, glibc Linux builds fail with undeclared identifiers.

Do not call GuestFlat::HandleAccessViolation() from the POSIX signal handler.
InstallPosixMemoryFaultHandler() runs before SystemBridge::Initialize() calls Memory::Init(), so registration is present. However, PosixMemoryFaultHandler() calls GuestFlat::HandleAccessViolation() directly. The resolver locks StateMutex() and performs deferred-read work; if the fault interrupts a thread that owns the mutex, the handler can deadlock. Use a signal-safe recovery path that resolves the fault outside signal context before resuming execution.

Add an alternate signal stack for the fault handler.
action.sa_flags sets only SA_SIGINFO. The handler then runs on the faulting thread's own stack. If the fault is a guest-stack or host-stack overflow, the guard page is already exhausted, so the handler faults again and the kernel kills the process. All crash diagnostics are lost in that case.
Install a per-thread sigaltstack and add SA_ONSTACK. Note that sigaltstack is per-thread, so any thread that can run translated guest code needs its own alternate stack.

I've been experimenting with Native linux support myself, does your build have a bug where the game crashes when pausing with Retro Rewind, I've found a fix for this, but I was just wondering as it's something I caught late. |
No issue with that on that with my build. I've not found any game bugs (other than some minor rendering issues that also exist identically on the official windows build). |

I have been doing some testing of this PR, and I have to say, it runs flawlessly. It has from what I can tell except the Windows Media Center based audio ducking, which an alternate solution will need to be found for been running perfectly. No visual bugs outside of what's present for me in the Windows build, and it's not crashed once yet. |
|
Any way to install this on bazzite? It keeps asking me for CMake which i cannot easily install on it bcs it's an immutable distro. (but thx for making this :D) |

@Isiah-maker edit the ISO path to point to your dump of the game. |
@CaptainJokes as its noted in the first message, the following are requirements that need to be available at build/install time. Afterwards to run the game you do not need them. bash I currently leave that as an effort to the user (on most systems it is simply, just install the dependencies from the package manager, but it should also be possible to temporarily install them on immutable systems as well) |
The issue was from my build process, I've fixed it (independent of yours). I'll be closing my PRs and working on improving your branch from now on. |
Same change as linux-native 926d4fe: wit isn't packaged on most distros and failed on this repo's .wbfs (ERROR patchzyy#80 -> hard build failure under set -e). nodtool (encounter/nod, MIT/Apache-2.0) is a single auto-fetched binary and extracts cleanly, matching the disc tool PR patchzyy#37's installer path uses. On windows 64kb is only the commit side, reserve grows to 1MB, libco allocates 64kb. Some deep translated code can corrupt the heap (encountered before however am not sure if this really applies anymore since that was due to a different bug)
you can retry with a full 100 mii nand to check the RFL mii drain to see if it triggers. So either bump libco stack to 1mb or prove it should not matter

Whats the best way to generate that a nand with 100 miis so I can check that?
@patchzyy I rebased and re-ordered and merged a few commits so the history makes more sense. feel free to merge. can continue on additional features in later PRs such as:

Resolve nodtool for the installer target architecture.
If Build-Installer.ps1 runs on ARM64 Windows, WiiCompiled.Setup.Common.NodToolProvider.ResolveAsync selects nodtool-windows-arm64.exe from RuntimeInformation.OSArchitecture. The script then copies it into a package published with -r win-x64. On an x64 Windows system, InstallerEngine.InstallAsync passes this staged executable to InputValidation.ReadDiscHeaderAsync, which invokes it before installation. Pass the target architecture to the resolver or reject non-x64 build hosts before staging.

freedesktop.org XDG Base Directory Specification 0.8 XDG_DATA_HOME absolute path relative values ignored
💡 Result:
According to the XDG Base Directory Specification (version 0.8 and earlier), all paths defined in environment variables—including XDG_DATA_HOME, XDG_CONFIG_HOME, XDG_CACHE_HOME, XDG_STATE_HOME, XDG_DATA_DIRS, XDG_CONFIG_DIRS, and XDG_RUNTIME_DIR—must be absolute paths [1][2]. If an implementation encounters a relative path in any of these environment variables, the specification explicitly states that the path should be considered invalid and must be ignored [1][2]. When such a variable is ignored, the implementation should fall back to using the default value defined by the specification for that variable [1][2].

Ignore relative XDG_DATA_HOME values.
When XDG_DATA_HOME is cache, ApplicationDataDirectory() returns a relative path. ResolveConfigPath() then resolves data relative to the process working directory. Accept only absolute paths so invalid relative values fall back to $HOME/.local/share, as required by the XDG specification.

POSIX siglongjmp signal handler interrupted non-async-signal-safe function subsequent call undefined siglongjmp Open Group
💡 Result:
Under POSIX, while siglongjmp is categorized as an async-signal-safe function, its usage within a signal handler carries significant risks that can result in undefined behavior [1][2][3]. The Open Group specifications explicitly state that if siglongjmp is invoked from a signal handler that has interrupted a non-async-signal-safe function, the behavior of any subsequent call to a non-async-signal-safe function (or equivalent actions like returning from main) is undefined [2][3][4]. This occurs because the interrupted non-async-signal-safe function may have left internal data structures or global state in an inconsistent or partially updated state (e.g., malloc metadata) [4]. When execution resumes via siglongjmp and the application subsequently calls an unsafe function, it may operate on this corrupted state [2][4]. To avoid this undefined behavior when calling siglongjmp from a signal handler, an application must satisfy one of the following two conditions [1][2][3]: 1. After the call to siglongjmp, the process only calls async-signal-safe functions and does not return from the initial call to main [1][2][3]. 2. Any signal whose handler calls siglongjmp is blocked during every call to a non-async-signal-safe function, and no such calls are made after returning from the initial call to main [1][2][3]. Because of these complexities, it is strongly recommended that applications avoid calling siglongjmp from signal handlers whenever possible [1][5][3].

Keep PosixMemoryFaultHandler signal-safe.
GuestFlat::HandleAccessViolation can lock a std::mutex, modify containers, change memory protection, and resolve deferred reads before the recovery branch. The unhandled branch also calls C++ streams, popup/reporting code, stack dumping, file logging, and stdio flushes. These operations can deadlock or corrupt state when the signal interrupts runtime code.
MKW_SETJMP correctly uses sigsetjmp(..., 1), but this does not make subsequent non-signal-safe calls valid under the POSIX siglongjmp contract. Keep the handler to signal-safe state capture and write()/_Exit(), then report the fault outside the handler.

Sorry the wup028_adapter.cpp authored to main since my PR was opened inclusion broke linux support. let me see how to handle that |
|
@GalaxisBeast @patchzyy why was that added? WUP-028 (wii u/switch gamecube controller adapter support) is already free with SDL3 and worked as is in WiiCompiled without any code changes (uses libusb on all platforms) |

Compare
|
As you can see, I entirely disagree with that WUP-028 driver being added in the first place, breaking auto assignment and ultimately being unnecessary duplication when it is already handled by SDL3 on all platforms. @GalaxisBeast since you have a windows environment setup with the required hardware, please confirm that SDL3 is being built with libusb support enabled on windows and the WUP-028 is using the correct driver (I believe winUSB is still correct as on windows libusb uses winusb as its backend). With those two conditions met, controllers plugged into the adapter act like any other gamepad, and the contents of #42 should be fully reverted for all platforms. #81 should also drop them. |
also restores automatic port assignment on non-Windows. This should be the default as patchzyy#42 was never a necessary change
|
@theofficialgman i will revert #42 on main #84 if SDL3 on windows is built with libusb support and WUP-028 using the correct driver, i encourage @GalaxisBeast is head to #84 (or a point before #42 got merged) to check this, otherwise i will check it when i am back home |
|
according to SDL developers, libusb isn't enabled in the prebuilt official packages just to limit the dependency/scope pretty annoying so you will need to build it on windows with that enabled. |
Upstream PR patchzyy#37 shipped its own complete native Linux port (runtime portability, libco fiber scheduling, Linux installer/AppImage packaging), covering the same subsystems this fork's hand-rolled port did. Verified by building upstream's runtime standalone and booting it against this checkout's real disc data before merging: clean zero-warning build, correct CMake gating, boots through OS/GX/audio init into the THP intro load, same as this fork's own build. Resolved all runtime/translator conflicts by taking upstream's side, retiring the ucontext.h fiber scheduler and mmap/memfd guest-memory port in favor of upstream's equivalents, and dropping the WUP-028 Linux libusb transport (commit 2980001) since upstream argues SDL3 already covers GameCube adapters via its own libusb backend and has reverted the original Windows-only PR patchzyy#42 this fork extended. Removed main.cpp's now orphaned call into Wup028Adapter::PrepareHostInputBackend() to match upstream's main.cpp exactly. Verified the portable-install path (this checkout's existing UserData/, found via portable.txt) survives the merge automatically via upstream's own general-purpose marker-file mechanism -- no data migration needed. Will there be a wheel wizard build for linux that trivializes the process? |
@rosenius yes, on my particular system, these were the system headers that SDL pulled in that didn't come from the appimage bundled clang/cmake/ninja I'm not an expert in SDL, it is currently built statically (but still on the users system) and built into the WiiCompiled binary at build time. Its possible the SDL build could be moved to the setup (when the appimage itself is constructed, same way as on Windows when the EXE is constructed) but this might introduce some system compatiblity issues.
