The runtime reads controller input, controls rumble, manages adapter lifecycle, and integrates the controller mapping wizard. ChangesWUP-028 adapter support
Estimated code review effort: 4 (Complex) | ~45 minutes Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to The change adds GameCube adapter support, but an empty connected adapter can suppress existing rumble behavior. The PR is otherwise mergeable with explicit owner awareness or follow-up for this bounded runtime compatibility risk. Sequence Diagram(s)sequenceDiagram

93-95: 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick winDo not consume legacy rumble when the adapter has no controller.
PAD__Read_HLEfalls back toPADReadwhen the adapter reports no controllers. This branch then skipsPADControlMotor, so legacy controllers receive input but no rumble.Make adapter rumble handling require an active controller on the requested port, or return

fixed issues from coderabbit
fix timeout loop, fixed drift issues, fixed infinite rumble, fixed gamecube controller adapter taking over all ports, require assigning a virtual controller port specifically to the gamecube controller adapter, and block inputs from gamecube controller while settings menu (f10 menu) is open

Upstream PR patchzyy#42 adds native Nintendo GameCube Controller Adapter (WUP-028, USB 057e:0337) support, but wup028_adapter.cpp was Windows-only (WinUSB + SetupAPI + overlapped I/O). Restructured the file additively into three regions, per this fork's "branch on platform, never rewrite the Windows path" strategy: - #if defined(_WIN32): the original WinUSB Device/Transfer/FindAdapter/ Open, byte-for-byte unchanged. - #elif defined(__linux__): a libusb-1.0 transport. Transfer() keeps the exact Win32 signature (UCHAR/ULONG/DWORD aliased in the anon namespace) wrapping libusb_interrupt_transfer, so the shared Worker() needs no #if. Open() enumerates via libusb_get_device_list + descriptor match (not libusb_open_device_with_vid_pid, which hides EACCES), opens, auto-detaches the kernel driver, claims interface 0, scans the config descriptor for the IN/OUT endpoints, and sends the 0x13 stream-enable byte. A single process-lifetime libusb context (SharedUsbContext(), function-local static, never freed) backs every open attempt so the once-a-second no-adapter retry loop does not cycle libusb's event thread. The absent-device error keeps the exact "No VID ..." text that Worker()'s state/log-suppression logic keys on; EACCES and BUSY get distinct, surfaced messages (EACCES includes the udev rule to add). - #else #error, matching the CMake platform gate. Axis/DecodePort/SendRumble/RefreshInputStream/ClearConnectedPorts/ Worker and the whole public API are shared and unchanged. New Wup028Adapter::PrepareHostInputBackend() disables SDL3's competing HIDAPI GameCube driver (SDL_HINT_JOYSTICK_HIDAPI_GAMECUBE=0) before aurora starts SDL; called from RuntimeMain ahead of aurora_initialize(). No-op on Windows. CMake: pkg_check_modules(MKW_LIBUSB REQUIRED IMPORTED_TARGET libusb-1.0) under if(UNIX AND NOT APPLE); linked to mkw_runtime_common for headers and to each product in mkw_configure_product (object-lib link deps do not propagate through $<TARGET_OBJECTS>). wup028_adapter.cpp is marked SKIP_UNITY_BUILD_INCLUSION so a USB header's macros never leak into an unrelated unity group. libusb-1.0 dev headers are now a hard Linux build dependency (REQUIRED) - documented in the README's Linux quick path. Verified: configures and finds libusb 1.0.30; the TU compiles in-context; WiiCompiled and RetroRewind link with libusb-1.0.so.0. The adapter-present path is unverified (no WUP-028 on hand) - see LEARNINGS.md, which also notes the unrelated controller-auto-assignment change that rode in with the upstream merge. Upstream PR patchzyy#37 shipped its own complete native Linux port (runtime portability, libco fiber scheduling, Linux installer/AppImage packaging), covering the same subsystems this fork's hand-rolled port did. Verified by building upstream's runtime standalone and booting it against this checkout's real disc data before merging: clean zero-warning build, correct CMake gating, boots through OS/GX/audio init into the THP intro load, same as this fork's own build. Resolved all runtime/translator conflicts by taking upstream's side, retiring the ucontext.h fiber scheduler and mmap/memfd guest-memory port in favor of upstream's equivalents, and dropping the WUP-028 Linux libusb transport (commit 2980001) since upstream argues SDL3 already covers GameCube adapters via its own libusb backend and has reverted the original Windows-only PR patchzyy#42 this fork extended. Removed main.cpp's now orphaned call into Wup028Adapter::PrepareHostInputBackend() to match upstream's main.cpp exactly. Verified the portable-install path (this checkout's existing UserData/, found via portable.txt) survives the merge automatically via upstream's own general-purpose marker-file mechanism -- no data migration needed. See LEARNINGS.md's 2026-08-30 entry for the full investigation. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_014pUmQKPXqVJ4GRgCh8crVz
add gamecube controller support for all 4 ports
also restores automatic port assignment on non-Windows. This should be the default as patchzyy#42 was never a necessary change
adds support for official wii u/nintendo switch gamecube controller adapter, tested with GC Pocket+ which is interfaced via the same protocols, will require WinUSB on official adapters.
