Add input macros, LB/RB bumper support and controller vibration toggle - #80

Conversation
Adds three controller features, all in runtime/ with no changes to aurora-main, so the precompiled aurora package does not need regenerating. - Input macros: hold a physical button to repeat a set of GameCube buttons on a hold/release frame pattern. The pattern advances once per guest PADRead, which is the game's own input poll, so it is unaffected by frame interpolation and every press is separated by a release the game can see. Four slots, configured in the F10 bar and persisted to Config.toml. - Bumper handling: a new PlayStation preset puts L and R on L1/R1, and a digital button bound to L or R now reports a fully pulled analog trigger, matching real hardware where the click only engages at full depression. - Vibration toggle: turns force feedback off for every port, including controllers on a GameCube adapter. Button name tables move to runtime/include/controller_button_names.h so the settings bar and the macro loader share one vocabulary.
📝 WalkthroughWalkthroughThe change adds shared controller button mappings, four frame-synchronized input macro slots, global rumble control, SDL trigger handling, controller presets, and related configuration UI and documentation. ChangesController input features
Estimated code review effort: 4 (Complex) | ~45 minutes Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to Persisted macro configurations may launch silently disabled, macro presses for L/R may not produce full analog-trigger values, and a saved rumble-off setting may not take effect until another controller event. These bounded correctness issues should be fixed or explicitly accepted before merge. Sequence Diagram(s)sequenceDiagram

Load persisted macro slots during startup.
g_slots starts disabled, and InputMacros::Reload() is the function that loads RuntimeConfigFile::Macro() into the slots. settings_overlay::InitializeRuntimeSettings() does not call it. If PAD__Read_HLE() runs before a controller-assignment event, configured macros can remain disabled after launch. Call InputMacros::Reload() during runtime initialization before guest input reads.

Set analog trigger values for macro L and R output.
Apply() adds PAD_TRIGGER_L and PAD_TRIGGER_R after FillTriggersHeldByButtons() has completed. A macro that sends l or r therefore leaves triggerLeft or triggerRight at zero. Games that read the analog trigger value do not receive a full press.
Proposed fix

Apply the persisted rumble setting at startup.
g_rumbleEnabled loads the configured value here, but InitializeRuntimeSettings does not call PAD_HLE_SetRumbleEnabled. Therefore, a saved disabled setting leaves the HLE flag at its true default after launch. Rumble remains active until the user changes the checkbox or assigns a controller.

Holding LB = D-pad up spam, is a macro we do not want in the game, this gives a competitive advantage and is basically cheating. |

Ignores PADIsInputBlocked()
So this will leak L/R while f10 bar is open
True, it's possible in Dolphin though via logical expressions. I could port it over and maybe make the Dolphin controller config readable |
|
I fail to see the need for macros in mkwii, am i missing something? |
|
Probably people with disabilities and/or different controllers that need binds for press/hold/double tap etc. |
|
couldnt we add an online check to disable macros? 🤔 |
|
@patchzyy would implementing something like gyro be allowed? For example, shaking to trick. For dolphin at least, I basically bind my controller to copy MK8DXs controller scheme. Just wondering what you think. |
that probably be good for eventual mobile port! |
