fix(server): apply confirmed Claude subagent outcomes - #18778
Conversation
ApprovabilityVerdict: Not approved Macroscope's review found this PR not approvable — This PR changes Claude subagent lifecycle handling across the adapter, effect worker, orchestration commands, provider contracts, and persisted projections. Although the intent and regression coverage are clear, the asynchronous confirmation and replay behavior has a broad production blast radius and warrants human review. subagent interrupt condition so subagent interrupt failures emit a warning with
the effect ID and cause before settlement, rather than being converted silently
to Effect.void. Preserve the existing handling for other failures and the
settlement flow.
- Around line 193-207: Update the `thread.background-work.settle` dispatch in
`EffectWorker` to identify the Stop generation or event associated with the
current in-flight Stop, so a task reported as started during that Stop is still
settled. Distinguish this from a genuine resume after an older Stop; do not rely
solely on comparing `startedAt` with `effect.createdAt`.

apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/Adapters/ClaudeAdapterV2.ts:9114-9148
🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick winKeep the stop outcome entry while another Stop call is waiting.
Two concurrent
stopSubagentcalls can share the same deferred. If the first call times out, itsEffect.ensuringblock deletes the map entry while the second call still waits on that deferred. A later nativetask_notificationthen finds no entry atClaudeAdapterV2.ts:5268, so it cannot complete the second waiter. The second call times out withClaude subagent Stop was not confirmed by a native outcome.Track the number of active waiters and delete the outcome only when the last waiter finishes.

Note Generated by GPT 6.1 Sol The concurrent Stop waiter concern in the latest review does not apply to the current production path, so I am leaving the code unchanged. ProviderTurnControlService is the only production caller of stopSubagent, and its interrupt path is called by EffectWorker. EffectOutbox.claimableCandidatePredicate serializes lifecycle effects within each thread: a running effect or an earlier pending effect blocks the next claim in that lane. Title generation has a separate lane; targeted interrupts do not. The adapter also checks that the task belongs to the caller's app thread, so another thread cannot concurrently stop that task. A timeout settles the first call before the next Stop effect can execute. I verified the source and ran the existing FoundationPersistence tests for per-thread effect serialization and for not reclaiming a live effect after lease expiry. Both pass. Adding waiter counters for unsupported concurrent direct adapter calls would expand this fix without addressing a reachable user failure. No additional production changes are needed for this finding. |
Merges upstream `pingdotgg/t3code` `5070a83a32` (48 commits, base `e688034b5f`) into the fork. It does not stack on another PR. ## Merge - 240 of 240 upstream-range files landed. Fork delta: 775 files. - One conflict: `apps/web/src/routeTree.gen.ts`, regenerated for upstream's new `/_chat/new` route. The other 18 files both sides touched auto-merged: `duplicate-adds` and `resolution-check` are clean, and every delta guard holds. - `pnpm-lock.yaml` was re-derived by install, and `verify --only lockfile` passes. - Sweep: `promptLinks/HostedPromptLinkLanding.tsx` renders only in the `hosted-static` auth state, which Moatless never reaches. Taken as upstream's. - Unsupported methods: ADD 0, DROP 0. ## Verification `verify.mjs` passes duplicate-adds, tripwires, resolution-check, unsupported-methods, lockfile, fmt, lint, typecheck and build. `test` fails only on files that fail alone and failed the same way on the last three merges, because of the sandbox: shared `AgentScope` (`oom_score_adj` is 935 here), server `ServerBrowserPage` (no Playwright browser), `AcpAdapterV2`, `OrchestratorReplayFixtures`, and provider-opencode `OpenCodeServerLedger`. ## Usable as-is - Prompt links (pingdotgg#18454): `/new?prompt=…`, `ThreadLinkPrompt` on thread routes, and copy-prompt-link from messages and the command palette. Choosing a project and placing the prompt work against Moatless. - Terminal colors (pingdotgg#17168), context meter rounding (pingdotgg#17539), stable button text (pingdotgg#18866), setup wizards follow themes (pingdotgg#18725), Git actions follow the selected thread (pingdotgg#18862), dropped threads attach to pending answers (pingdotgg#18789), the compact merge-button second click (pingdotgg#18878), a numeric `q` on pull requests (pingdotgg#18666), the home-page bounce fix (pingdotgg#18672), running terminals shown in the sidebar (pingdotgg#18740), and computer-use titles (pingdotgg#18865). - Mobile and desktop fixes (theme contrast, settings rows, the PR action bar, image caching, the iOS 27.2 black screen, Hyprland, updater diagnostics). - "Update everything" sidebar pill (pingdotgg#18053): inert against Moatless, which advertises no `serverSelfUpdate` or `versionAdvisory`. ## Unsupported in Moatless / needs implementation - Prompt-link "clone this repository" (`NewThreadLinkView.cloneRepository`): needs `projectClone.start` and the `projectCloneTracking` capability. It refuses with a message today. Added to gaps.md under *Project and repository management*. - Renaming built-in models (pingdotgg#18840): saves through `server.updateSettings` (custom model entry with a built-in slug). It stays behind `FEATURES.providerConfiguration`, under the existing settings gap. - Provider secret settings (pingdotgg#18505, `secretSetting` and `isSecretSetting` in contracts): stored on the host, so they fall under the same settings gap. ## Backend behavior to consider reproducing in Moatless Recorded in gaps.md under *Runtime fixes upstream made to its own server*: - A confirmed Claude subagent outcome settles that task and its child work (pingdotgg#18778, the new `subagent` target on `thread.background-work.settle`). - Claude thinking before a tool call stays a collapsed Thought (pingdotgg#18887). - Codex title and branch-name generation no longer starts the user's MCP servers (pingdotgg#17058). - The event store resyncs a thread holding an event type from a newer build (pingdotgg#15937, `isKnownOrchestrationV2EventType`). - A migration id clash stops startup with a clear error (pingdotgg#15925). - Cached branch PR lookups start no git process (pingdotgg#17063). - PR head commits are reported for Forgejo, GitLab and Bitbucket (pingdotgg#18463, pingdotgg#18608, pingdotgg#18402), and PR bases resolve to branch names (pingdotgg#18754). 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) --- Moatless task: https://moatless.soaplabstest.com/tasks/dcd13b46-6495-4b1d-af7c-03da83644d11

Move Claude MCP registration to the SDK control channel, inherit nested Claude effort accurately, and isolate Linux agents in systemd scopes with OOM protection. Add a capability-gated native Claude task Stop control and MCP operation that preserve the owner turn and await the actual outcome. Adapt upstream pingdotgg#17898 (f82796a), pingdotgg#17662 (a0a601c), pingdotgg#17496 (98beed1), pingdotgg#17826 (8c777fb), and pingdotgg#18778 (265fb70) to the stable provider services and protocol 1. Keep custom forks, durable workers, account switching, and the installed phone protocol. Package as custom.10. Validation: focused provider, worker, recovery, connection, authorization, and isolation suites; server/web typechecks; targeted lint (existing warnings); web/native builds; isolated conversation-snapshot startup; real Linux scope/oom-score launch. No browser or Android device test.
A completed Claude subagent could appear running again when an old buffered task_started replayed. Stop could then leave the card running because Claude did not send another terminal notification.
Discard superseded buffered starts and apply each native outcome once, preserving genuine resumes. Stop returns a confirmed native outcome directly; when the adapter already knows the task finished, the effect repairs its stale projection through persisted subagent, node, and turn-item events. Unconfirmed requests and timeouts never imply cancellation.
Consolidated regression fixtures and removed compatibility handling for an intermediate, unmerged command shape. The short confirmation wait remains necessary when the old run's event subscription has closed.
Validation: 312 tests passed across ClaudeAdapterV2, ThreadStop, EffectWorker, ProviderTurnControlService, and orchestrationV2 contracts. Server and contracts typechecks passed. Targeted lint passed with two existing unused-variable warnings; formatting passed. Tests cover stale starts and outcomes, genuine resumes, native-only confirmation, siblings, and persisted events for cached clients.
Fixes #17847
Implemented with GPT 6.1 Sol through the Codex harness.
