Summary

Turns the one-line README into the lab's public profile: research, achievements, publications, a press kit and the member list. Members submit their own profiles through a GitHub issue form. Written for people and for coding agents.

What's in it

  • README.md:
    • the formal one-liner and the lab at a glance;
    • highlights, in the fact base's allowed wording;
    • current projects and platforms, programs, and the verified contact block.
  • research.md:
    • the move from telepresence toward Physical AI and the four message pillars;
    • current projects, platforms and past work, with dates.
  • achievements.md: a dated timeline with a source for every row, plus the "never claim" guidance.
  • publications.md:
    • VendoBot (HRI 2026) and the award-winning papers;
    • a selected list, in IEEE style, of entries checked against Crossref.
    • Seven lab-website entries don't match the publisher's record; they are listed in the page so the website can be fixed.
  • press-kit/:
    • boilerplates in 25, 50 and 100 words;
    • a fact sheet and a director bio template;
    • the official ATR logo pack with usage rules (the Kent State wordmark is not included);
    • photo requirements and a coverage log.
  • members/ and .github/ISSUE_TEMPLATE/member-profile.yml:
    • Members fill in a form. It warns that issues are public, needs two consent boxes ticked, and keeps anyone under 18 out.
    • A maintainer, or an agent, then converts the issue into members/profiles/<name>.md.
    • A ready-to-send message for lab members is in members/README.md.
  • AGENTS.md: the repo map, sources of truth, the member-profile procedure and every open item. CLAUDE.md imports it.
  • Also: docs CI, the brand header and social preview.
  • License: GPL-3.0 is replaced with MIT, as the lab lead asked.

For the reviewer

  • License change. Moving from GPL-3.0 to MIT changes the license of text written by Irvin Steve Cardenas, so please confirm it's OK.

  • Drafts awaiting the director's approval (press-kit/boilerplates.md, press-kit/director-bio.md):

    • the 22-word one-liner;
    • the 25-, 50- and 100-word boilerplates;
    • the social bio;
    • the director bio.
  • Items to confirm:

    • the name, paper and recipients of the World Robot Summit 2021 paper award;
    • the lab's current role in NSF PRIDe;
    • the years and descriptions of the Gesture-Enabled Telepresence Robot and MOVR.
  • Contacts to fill:

    • the lab room and phone;
    • a kent.edu program address;
    • the UCM media contact;
    • the canonical LinkedIn page;
    • the giving link.

    The full list is under "Open items" in AGENTS.md.

  • UCM review of the ATR mark next to Kent State identity, before the logo pack is used publicly.

How it was checked

  • brand_check.py: 0 errors. The warnings are intentional placeholders and GitHub alert markers.
  • markdownlint: 0 issues. Relative links and anchors all resolve.
  • lychee on every external link: 0 errors.
  • The DOIs were checked through Crossref.
  • The issue forms validate against GitHub's issue-forms schema.

After merge

  1. Create the member-profile label; GitHub doesn't create labels from issue forms.
  2. Upload .github/assets/social-preview.png under Settings → Social preview.
  3. Send the member message in members/README.md. The form link works only after this merges.
