Summary

Builds the ATR-Lab organization's front page and the default community files every lab repository inherits. Part of a revamp of the lab's five docs repositories; the others are linked below.

What's in it

  • profile/README.md: the front page at github.com/ATR-Lab. It has:
    • the lab's formal one-liner;
    • a "Start here" grid linking the four docs repositories;
    • current projects, linking public repositories only;
    • the verified channels (website, YouTube, X @atrlab_kent, Instagram @atr_lab).
  • Org-wide defaults. These apply to every ATR-Lab repository that has none of its own:
    • CONTRIBUTING.md, CODE_OF_CONDUCT.md, SECURITY.md and SUPPORT.md;
    • issue forms (bug report, feature request, docs fix);
    • a pull request template.
  • AGENTS.md: a map of the whole organization for coding agents (Claude Code, Codex), saying which repository answers which question. CLAUDE.md imports it.
  • Brand assets: a header, a social preview and icons from the ATR Lab design skill.
  • Docs CI: markdownlint and a lychee link check.
  • License: MIT.

For the reviewer

  • Code of conduct. It is a draft until the director approves it. It needs a [conduct contact email] and a [conduct contact role]. It currently names the director as the escalation contact.
  • Security contact. SECURITY.md needs a [security contact email].
  • Org settings, changed by hand (the table is in README.md):
    • fix the display name typo ("Telerobotic");
    • replace the description, which claims "+400 media outlets";
    • add a kent.edu email;
    • set the avatar.

How it was checked

  • The ATR Lab design skill's brand_check.py (facts, names, Kent State style): 0 errors. The remaining warnings are intentional placeholders.
  • markdownlint: 0 issues.
  • lychee on every external link: 0 errors.
  • The issue forms parse as YAML.
  • Rendered through GitHub's Markdown API and checked in light and dark mode.

Merge notes

  • Front-page images use absolute raw.githubusercontent.com/.../main/... URLs, which is what org profile pages need, so they show up only after this merges.
  • The links to the other docs repositories resolve once those PRs merge. On pull requests, CI checks only links inside this repository.
