Lane

ME-CLI-transport-commands — @wave-av/cli: wave srt|moq|whip|whep commands; wave stream becomes an honest preview. Part of the WAVE Media Engine (live transport, protocol bridges, mesh, delivery) go-live effort. Depends on ME-SDK-transport-modules (not yet landed — see Design decisions below for how this PR avoids blocking on it).

What changed

New GA transport command groups (all reach the already-published @wave-av/sdk@2.1.3 generic WaveClient.get/post/delete, the same pattern wave compose already established — no per-protocol SDK module needed):

  • wave srt inputs create|list|get|delete → /v1/srt/inputs
  • wave moq token publish|subscribe --ns --track → /v1/moq/publish|subscribe/:ns/:track
  • wave whip publish --file|--url → /v1/whip/publish; prints the WHIP URL + bearer token in the exact shape OBS Studio's WHIP output settings need
  • wave whep subscribe --id → /v1/whep/subscribe
  • wave crest sessions create|list|get → /v1/crest/sessions
  • wave dante observe --node → /v1/dante/observe
  • wave listen sessions create|list|get → /v1/listen/sessions, nested under the pre-existing wave listen (webhook-forwarding) command — wave listen with no subcommand is unchanged

Honesty fixes (the GA readiness audit confirmed these routes 404 ROUTE_NOT_FOUND — "no spoke and no override" in wave-gateway's forward-target.ts):

  • wave stream * (create/list/get/update/delete/start/stop/restart/status/viewers/metrics/recordings) now prints Preview: generic streams are not on the public API yet. Use \wave srt inputs create` or `wave whip publish`and exits 2, WITHOUT constructing an SDK client or making any network call. There is nogetClientimport insrc/commands/stream/index.ts` any more, on purpose.
  • wave phone * (call, conference create/list, numbers list/provision) marked preview per D1 for the identical reason (/v1/phone is in the same hard-break list); same exit-2/no-network-call treatment.
  • src/lib/suggestions.ts's stream 404 suggestions no longer point at the now-preview wave stream list/create; they point at wave srt inputs create / wave whip publish.

Version bumped 1.0.10 → 1.1.0. capabilities.json updated (CAP-001 requires it to exactly match program.commands) to add srt, moq, whip, whep, crest, dante.

Design decisions (read before merging)

  1. No SDK dependency bump, no speculative type augmentation. The lane brief said "depend on @wave-av/sdk ^2.2.0" and "use a workspace link... until the SDK publishes." I verified @wave-av/sdk origin/main (2.1.3, the only published version) has no srt.ts/moq.ts/whip.ts/whep.ts/crest.ts/listen.ts module, and no ME-SDK-transport-modules branch exists in wave-av/sdk yet. But WaveClient (the class every SDK API wrapper is built on) already exposes public, generic, typed get<T>/post<T>/put<T>/patch<T>/delete<T>(path, body?, options?) methods — wave compose already uses exactly this (client.client.post<ComposeProposal>("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/v1/compose", body)). So instead of bumping to an unpublished SDK version (which would break npm install for every contributor until it ships) or inventing a fragile ambient-type shim, every new command here calls the generic client directly against the exact routes this platform's go-live definition names. This is real, typechecked, testable code today — not a stub waiting on a dependency. @wave-av/sdk was widened from a pinned 2.1.3 to ^2.1.3 (forward-compatible with 2.2.0 once it ships) but not force-bumped.
  2. wave listen naming collision, resolved by nesting. wave listen already existed (webhook-event forwarding, unrelated product) before this lane. The go-live definition's "Listen" is a different product (a spoke worker) with its own route, /v1/listen/sessions. Rather than invent a second top-level name or break the existing command, sessions is nested under the existing listen Command instance — commander supports a command having both its own .action() (the original webhook behavior, unchanged, still the default for wave listen with no subcommand) and child .command()s. Verified working with a standalone repro before wiring it in.
  3. av, engine, braid, mesh nodes are out of scope for this lane — not named in this lane's work field (only srt, moq, whip, whep, listen, crest, dante observe are), even though they appear in the platform's overall go-live definition; presumably a different lane's surface.
  4. Request/response JSON shapes for the new routes are my best-effort design, documented as local TypeScript interfaces per command (e.g. src/commands/srt/types.ts) rather than assumed from an unavailable spec — these are exactly the shapes needed to satisfy this lane's stated acceptance criteria (SRT: input id + URL; MoQ: token mint; WHIP: URL + token; WHEP: subscribe URL). If the gateway's actual response shape differs, only these small per-command type files and the corresponding console.log lines need updating — the command wiring, error handling, and tests do not.

Local test/typecheck/build receipts (GitHub Actions is billing-blocked; verified locally)

$ npm run type-check   # tsc --noEmit
> tsc --noEmit
(clean, no errors)

$ npm test -- --run # vitest run
Test Files 1 failed | 23 passed (24)
Tests 2 failed | 190 passed | 3 skipped (195)

The 2 failing tests (scripts/license-audit.test.mjs) are pre-existing and environmental, not introduced by this PR: they shell out to npm pack inside the sandbox and it produces no file list there (sandbox write/exec restriction on npm pack's temp dir). Confirmed identical on a clean origin/main checkout before any change in this PR (same 2 failures, same 134 passing baseline). This PR adds 56 new passing tests (134 → 190) across stream, phone, srt, moq, whip, whep, crest, dante, listen/sessions, plus a --help-snapshot suite (src/commands/transport-help.test.ts) covering the lane's exact liveProof shape and a CAP-001 cross-check.

$ npm run build # tsup
ESM dist/index.js 186.46 KB
ESM Build success
$ node dist/index.js srt --help          # lists "inputs"; `srt inputs --help` lists create/list/get/delete
$ node dist/index.js stream create
Preview: generic streams are not on the public API yet. Use `wave srt inputs create` or `wave whip publish`
$ echo $?
2

npm run lint (eslint src/) fails with eslint: command not found — pre-existing: there is no eslint devDependency and no eslint config file anywhere in this repo at origin/main, unrelated to this change.

Post-merge ship commands (none run by this PR — GA-fix PRs in flight elsewhere are unaffected; this is CLI-only, no deploy/DNS/Stripe/secret writes)

# 1. Merge this PR (merge commit, not squash), then release per the repo's existing release workflow:
git -C wave-av/cli fetch origin && git -C wave-av/cli checkout main && git -C wave-av/cli pull
npm --prefix wave-av/cli run build
npm --prefix wave-av/cli publish # publishConfig.access=public, registry=registry.npmjs.org — operator-run, needs npm auth
# 2. Live proof after publish:
npx -y --@wave-av:registry=https://registry.npmjs.org/ @wave-av/cli@1.1.0 srt --help # expect "inputs" and, one level deeper, "create"
npx -y --@wave-av:registry=https://registry.npmjs.org/ @wave-av/cli@1.1.0 stream create ; echo $? # expect the preview message, exit 2

Rollback

Revert this merge commit (git revert -m 1 <merge-sha>) and re-publish the prior 1.0.10 tag if 1.1.0 was already published; the change is additive (six new command groups) plus two behavior-preserving-to-safer conversions (stream/phone now fail fast instead of risking a payable 402 against a dead route), so a revert is low-risk and doesn't touch any other surface (gateway, SDK, docs).

Live proof

npx -y --@wave-av:registry=https://registry.npmjs.org/ @wave-av/cli@1.1.0 srt --help lists inputs (and wave srt inputs --help lists create), and wave stream create exits 2 with the preview message — both verified locally against the built dist/index.js above; the npm-published form is the same artifact npm run build produces.

Note

Medium Risk
User-visible behavior change for stream/phone (fail-fast vs failed API calls) and new authenticated calls to live transport routes; wire shapes are local types that may need adjustment if the gateway differs.

Overview
Release 1.1.0 wires the CLI to GA media-engine routes and stops calling dead gateway paths.

New command groups hit /v1/* through the SDK’s generic WaveClient (same pattern as wave compose): SRT inputs CRUD, MoQ publish/subscribe tokens, WHIP publish (OBS-oriented URL + token output), WHEP subscribe, Crest sessions, Dante observe, and wave listen sessions nested under the existing webhook listen command so default wave listen behavior is unchanged.

wave stream * and wave phone * no longer use client.pipeline.* / client.phone.* against 404 routes; they call shared previewExit (stderr message, exit 2, no SDK client). Help text stays for parity; stream 404 suggestions now point at SRT/WHIP instead of stream create/list.

capabilities.json, changelog, and @wave-av/sdk range (^2.1.3) updated; broad vitest coverage for routes, preview guards, and --help / CAP-001 alignment.

CodeAnt-AI Description

Add live media transport commands and make unavailable previews explicit

What Changed

  • Added commands for SRT inputs, MoQ publish/subscribe tokens, WHIP publishing, WHEP subscriptions, Crest sessions, Dante observation, and Listen media sessions.
  • WHIP publishing now prints the URL and bearer token needed for OBS Studio; SRT and WHEP commands print their ingest or playback URLs.
  • wave stream and wave phone commands now clearly report that the features are previews, exit with status 2, and avoid making failed network requests.
  • Existing wave listen webhook behavior remains available when no session subcommand is used.

Impact

✅ Access to six live transport workflows from the CLI
✅ Ready-to-use WHIP and SRT connection details
✅ Fewer failed requests for unavailable stream and phone routes

…e wave stream/phone honest previews

Go-live lane ME-CLI-transport-commands (WAVE Media Engine platform).

Adds the GA transport surface the readiness audit confirmed is served and
priced but not yet reachable from the CLI: `wave srt inputs`, `wave moq
token`, `wave whip publish`, `wave whep subscribe`, `wave crest sessions`,
`wave dante observe`, and `wave listen sessions` (nested under the existing
webhook-forwarding `wave listen`, which is unchanged). None of these import a
per-protocol SDK module — @wave-av/sdk does not ship one yet — so each calls
the already-published generic WaveClient.get/post/delete directly, the same
pattern `wave compose` already established.

`wave stream *` and `wave phone *` (marked preview per D1) used to call
client.pipeline.*/client.phone.*, targeting /v1/streams and /v1/phone, both
confirmed 404 ROUTE_NOT_FOUND by the readiness audit. Every subcommand now
prints an honest preview message and exits 2 without ever constructing an
SDK client or making a network call.

Version 1.1.0. Full test/typecheck/build receipts and design rationale in
the PR body.

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 31f44

The local-file publish option cannot transfer a file, and JSON or YAML output from affected commands is not a single clean document. Fix those workflows before merging; also restore or explain the SDK pin and correct the release notes.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 31f44

The new commands make live-media credentials and resources available through the CLI. Two credential-handling choices create exposure on shared machines or in captured output. The commands retain the existing API authentication path and require confirmation before SRT deletion, but server-side authorization and recovery behavior remain unverified.

Retained concerns

  • Medium · security · inferred: The new encrypted-ingest option takes the SRT passphrase in a CLI argument. On hosts where another party can inspect process arguments or shell history, that party may obtain the ingest secret. The inspected command offers no alternative secret-input path.
  • Medium · security · inferred: The new WHIP command prints a bearer token to stdout and then formats the full API response, including that token. This is intentional for OBS configuration, but captured terminal output or automation logs can retain a usable credential; selecting JSON or YAML does not suppress the preceding token print.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — New authenticated callers can create SRT and media sessions, mint transport tokens, and delete SRT inputs. The effective tenant, resource, and token privileges depend on API-side authorization and token scope, which the inspected CLI cannot establish.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • inferred — An actor able to inspect another user's process arguments or captured CLI output could obtain, respectively, an SRT encryption passphrase or a minted WHIP bearer token. No remote exploitation path or compromise was verified in the supplied evidence.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The WHIP command forwards a user-supplied URL or file-path string to the authenticated publish API; it does not fetch the URL itself. Its exactly-one-source guard and the SRT delete confirmation are local controls. Backend fetch restrictions, resource ownership checks, and token scope remain unverified.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • inferred — The CLI delegates mutation authorization, repeated-request safety, and cleanup after an ambiguous create to the API. The inspected command path provides no evidence of an idempotency key or recovery receipt; this is an unverified lifecycle guarantee, not an established duplicate-resource finding.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Offer a non-argument input method for the SRT passphrase and distinguish intentional one-time credential display from machine-readable output destined for logs.
  • proposed — Before treating the new routes as generally available, verify API-side ownership, token scope, URL-fetch restrictions if URLs are fetched, response contracts, and mutation retry and recovery semantics.

CodeAnt Nitpicks

2 code suggestions

1. Invalid --latency-ms values become NaN and are sent to the gateway, causing malformed requests or an opaque server error instead of a CLI validation error.

Type error · src/commands/srt/index.ts:32

2. Invalid --limit values become NaN and are sent as query parameters, so malformed input reaches the API and produces an opaque or unintended response.

7 custom suggestions

1. Replace the named third-party product with neutral wording such as “the WHIP client’s required output format.”

RetriggerConfidence Score: 3/5

[Medium risk] Adds six new CLI commands for media transport protocols.

This PR is not ready to merge because local-file WHIP publishing cannot supply the file and the new commands’ JSON output breaks automation.

Fix All in Cursor Cloud AgentsFindings

  1. P1 Local file is not uploaded ▶
  2. P1 Messages break JSON output ▶
  3. P2 Invalid numeric options reach requests ▶
Summary

The PR adds transport command groups through the SDK’s generic client and converts stream and phone commands to no-network previews.

  • The WHIP local-file option does not transfer file contents.
  • Several new commands break machine-readable JSON output, and numeric request options need validation.
  • Greptile automatically discovered a related ticket that helped explain the purpose of this PR: Streams had a published price without a confirmed working handler, motivating an honest preview.

P1 Local file is not uploaded
When someone uses --file /tmp/clip.mp4, this command sends the pathname in the request body but never reads or uploads the file. The remote gateway cannot access a file on the caller’s machine, so the selected media cannot be published. Upload the file through a supported flow, or remove the local-file option until that flow exists.

P1 Messages break JSON output
With --output json, these messages go to stdout before formatOutput writes the JSON result. For example, wave whip publish --url ... --output json prints a banner, URL, token and OBS instructions before the JSON, so a script cannot parse stdout as one JSON document. The new SRT, MoQ, WHEP, Crest and Listen create or mint commands have the same problem. Keep human-readable guidance out of JSON stdout.

P2 Invalid numeric options reach requests
wave srt inputs create --title X --latency-ms abc converts the latency to NaN and sends it instead of rejecting the argument; negative latency is also accepted. This makes an invalid request harder to diagnose and may cause an avoidable server error. Validate a finite, appropriate value before making the request, as compose --budget does. The new list --limit options need the same check.

Approvability

Verdict: Not approved

Macroscope's review found this PR not approvable — This PR adds multiple networked media workflows and changes existing stream and phone command behavior, including handling and displaying session credentials. Unresolved comments identify concrete security, API-contract, output-format, and validation concerns, so the change warrants human review.

## [1.1.0] - 2026-09-28

### Added

- `wave srt inputs create|list|get|delete` — SRT ingest against the GA route
`/v1/srt/inputs`.
- `wave moq token publish|subscribe --ns --track` — MoQ session token minting
against `/v1/moq/publish|subscribe/:ns/:track`.
- `wave whip publish --file|--url` — mints a WHIP publish session and prints
the WHIP URL + bearer token in the shape OBS Studio's WHIP output needs.
- `wave whep subscribe --id` — mints a WHEP subscribe session.
- `wave crest sessions create|list|get` — Crest (MoQ browser player) sessions.
- `wave dante observe --node` — Dante control-plane observation.
- `wave listen sessions create|list|get`, nested under the pre-existing
`wave listen` (webhook-forwarding) command, for the unrelated "Listen"
media spoke's session routes — `wave listen` with no subcommand keeps its
original webhook behavior unchanged.

None of the six new modules import a per-protocol SDK class: `@wave-av/sdk`
does not ship one yet, so each calls the SDK's already-published generic
`WaveClient.get/post/delete` directly (the same pattern `wave compose`
already established) against the routes this platform's go-live definition
names explicitly.

Merge the two ### Added headings in the 1.1.0 section and add a [1.1.0] link reference.

The [1.1.0] section now has two ### Added headings. One is on Line 11. The other is on Line 69, and it holds the wave compose entry that was listed under Unreleased before this change. Keep a Changelog allows one heading per change type in each release. Move the compose bullet into the first ### Added block and delete the second heading.

The link references at the bottom of the file also lack [1.1.0]. [Unreleased] still compares against v1.0.9. Add [1.1.0]: .../compare/v1.0.10...v1.1.0 and change [Unreleased] to compare from v1.1.0.

Keep the exact @wave-av/sdk pin, or document the policy change.

CHANGELOG.md defines exact SDK pins as the current convention. Change this dependency back to "2.1.3" unless this release intentionally changes that policy and documents the reason.

The lockfile currently resolves 2.1.3, and no known broken release in the ^2.1.3 range is shown. Therefore, the risk of a future broken 2.x release is prospective, not a demonstrated current install failure.

Remove --file or implement a real upload.

The --file branch sends only /tmp/clip.mp4 as a JSON string. The SDK does not send the file bytes. The default SDK base URL is https://api.wave.online, so the cited https://rt.wave.online WHIP endpoint is not the default route used by this command. That endpoint's SDP contract does not invalidate the --url session-minting branch.

The local-file option still cannot publish the user's local file through the default remote client.

Review comment at @src/commands/whip/index.ts at line 32:
Remove the unsupported local-file publishing option from the `whip publish`
command: delete its `--file` option and `body.file` assignment, and update
validation to require `--url` alone. Keep the existing `--url` session-minting
flow unchanged.

Preserve a single document on stdout for JSON and YAML output. Each affected handler prints human-readable text before formatOutput. When a user selects JSON or YAML, that text makes stdout invalid as one document. Keep status text in table mode or send it to stderr. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Confidence score: 2/5

  • src/cli.ts exposes bearer tokens through ordinary stdout and generic output formatting, which can leak credentials into logs; keep tokens out of default output and require an explicit reveal action or a safer delivery channel.
  • src/commands/whip/index.ts sends a local --file path to the remote API instead of transferring the file, so local-file publishing cannot work; implement the supported upload flow or remove the option.
  • src/commands/srt/index.ts, src/commands/whip/index.ts, src/commands/crest/index.ts, src/commands/moq/index.ts, and src/commands/whep/index.ts print status text before JSON/YAML results, breaking script parsing; emit prose only in table mode or send it to stderr.
  • src/commands/stream/index.ts documents preview commands that exit 2, while src/lib/preview.ts uses the same code as AUTH_REQUIRED; update the examples and use a distinct preview exit code so users and agents can interpret failures correctly.

The doc comment's "distinct from EXIT_CODES..." claim holds only against NOT_IMPLEMENTED/11, not the code table. <comment>`## [1.1.0]` is a Markdown reference-style link with no matching `[1.1.0]:` definition at the bottom of the file, so the version header renders as literal text and has no comparison link, unlike `[1.0.9]`/`[1.0.8]`/`[1.0.0]`. Add `[1.1.0]: https://github.com/wave-av/cli/compare/v1.0.10...v1.1.0` (and bump `[Unreleased]:` to compare against `v1.1.0`) in the links block.</comment>

P3: process.exit() after console.error can drop the message: Node terminates immediately, and stderr writes are asynchronous when redirected on Windows, so the verbatim string — this lane's substring-check contract — may never flush. Set process.exitCode = 2 and return normally so pending writes flush before Node exits.

  • 🟠 P1 src/commands/phone/index.test.ts:42 — Missing test coverage for actual API calls
The test suite only verifies that getClient is not called and process.exit(2) is invoked, but does not actually verify what happens when the API endpoint return
