The showcase channel has no way to surface or reward the best work. A recurring digest with community voting would boost visibility and feedback for showcase posts. It would also give posters recognition.
I don't think a voting system is needed when you have thumbs-up reactions, nor do I think comments should influence the top posts because comments aren't necessarily positive.
To be honest I think a simple reaction counter would be enough. Maybe we don't even need a voting period, we could just highlight posts with a reaction count above a specific threshold.
People currently do not thumbs up posts at all, i mostly see the Adobe Illustrator Logo (Ai) used on posts. So this is a means to encourage people to participate in the showcases more, and especially more positively.
If reactions would have been enough, we would have already seen people do that, but they don't. Mostly they are toxic to others, so this is taking another approach to it.
Additional criteria:
Comments will not be counted, if the reactions does not contain thumbs up.
If we see that one algorithm is not working, like comments, then it will be removed in another iteration.
And generally we will have to watch and adapt over time. We can start small. I will break this ticket up into several and make this into an epic.
bot message showing recent posts from n days and sorting by thumbs up and adding a comment with the amount of comments it received
bot message asking people to vote on the best and just show the result after 3 days, sorted by votes then thumbs up
bot assigning role to users for n days to the user that got the most upvotes
