docs: import the Contract type from ./contract.js; rename the upgrade guide's tsconfig step - #8330
Conversation
…nfig step Every Prisma ORM 8 example imported the Contract type from './contract.d'. That extensionless path fails with TS2307 under nodenext, node18, and node20 as ES modules; './contract.js' maps to contract.d.ts under every module setting (tested against @prisma/orm-postgres 8.0.0-rc.12 with TypeScript 5.9.3 and 7.0.2). prisma/orm#30450 changes orm init to write the same path. The two prose notes that said to keep the .d now explain the .js. Section 2.6 of the PostgreSQL upgrade guide is mostly about choosing the module setting, so its heading says so; the two anchors that pointed at it are updated. ./contract.jsin both prose passages. The code examples use
./contract.js, but both passages still instruct readers to use./contract.d. Under the documented Node ESM settings,./contract.dcan produce TS2307, while TypeScript resolves./contract.jsto the generatedcontract.d.ts.Suggested fix

…old notes #8330 also moved two 'export type { Contract }' re-exports (bun-workspaces, turborepo) from ./contract.d to ./contract.js; they hit the same TS2724 beside a contract.ts, so they read ./contract.d.js now. The turborepo agent prompt still said the extensionless ./prisma/contract.d, and making-guides showed the scaffolded db.ts with ./contract.d.ts, which needs allowImportingTsExtensions; both now name ./contract.d.js.
Why
Every Prisma ORM 8 example on the docs site imported the
Contracttype withimport type { Contract } from './contract.d'. Tested against@prisma/orm-postgres@8.0.0-rc.12with TypeScript 5.9.3 and 7.0.2, that extensionless path fails with TS2307 whenmoduleisnodenext,node18, ornode20andpackage.jsonhas"type": "module"../contract.jsmaps tocontract.d.tsand passes in every setting. prisma/orm#30450 changesprisma orm initto write the same path. What changed
./contract.js(or the equivalent relative path)..d(the-contract-artifact.mdx, transactions-and-runtime.mdx) and the "not a typo" aside in using-extensions.mdx now explain.jsand say which settings the old path fails under.Checks
lint:links: 0 errors. cspell over all 713 pages: clean../contract.dimport or old anchor remains underapps/docs/content/docsoutside the v6/v7 trees.🤖 Generated with Claude Code
