An asynchronous MediaRecorder error while recording leaves the session in recording, so voice input continues blocking send and a later stop can submit a partial recording instead of reporting the failure. handleError only rejects pendingStop, which is null during normal recording; propagate recorder errors to ComposerVoiceSession so it cleans up and enters an error state immediately.

Cancelling during transcribing can leave finishRecording() permanently pending, so finishing remains true and every later stop() or limit-triggered stop returns without transcribing. cleanupCapture() disposes the recorder and clears the pending stop resolver before the queued stop event fires; keep the recorder alive until that event settles, while still aborting any active transcription.

Restore path-gated mobile-native static analysis in .github/workflows/ci.yml.
mobile_native_changes now only prints a success message. It no longer detects changed mobile-native paths or runs vp run lint:mobile. Future mobile-native changes on main can therefore pass CI without native static analysis. Restore the changed-path gate and the conditional mobile_native_static_analysis job. The PR-specific validate-full-ci-8617.yml workflow is intentionally temporary and may keep its static skip.

Effect FetchHttpClient default redirect behavior RequestInit redirect follow effect unstable http
💡 Result:
In the Effect ecosystem, the default redirect behavior for FetchHttpClient is governed by the underlying platform's fetch implementation, which typically defaults to follow redirects (as per the RequestInit redirect: 'follow' standard) [1][2][3][4]. Because FetchHttpClient constructs its requests using this default, it often follows redirects transparently before the Effect-level logic can intercept them [1]. Key points regarding this behavior include: 1. Platform Dependence: Since FetchHttpClient relies on globalThis.fetch, redirect handling (including limitations, security, and CORS behavior) varies by runtime (Node.js, browser, etc.) [2][4]. 2. Interaction with HttpClient.followRedirects: The HttpClient.followRedirects decorator was historically misleading because the underlying fetch often consumed the redirect before the decorator's internal loop could act [1]. 3. Current Best Practice: To gain explicit control over redirects, you should provide a custom RequestInit service to the FetchHttpClient [2][5][6]. By setting { redirect: 'manual' } in the RequestInit, you prevent the browser or runtime from automatically following redirects [7][3]. Once set to manual, the HttpClient.followRedirects(maxRedirects?) decorator will then effectively manage the redirection flow with a default limit of 10 hops [1][7][8]. 4. Unstable API: The FetchHttpClient and related HTTP modules are currently under the unstable namespace (e.g., @effect/platform or similar paths in the current version), meaning APIs and behaviors may evolve [2][8][5]. Always check the specific version documentation for the latest changes [7].

WHATWG Fetch redirect cross-origin Authorization header custom headers remove authorization redirect
💡 Result:
As of the current Fetch Standard, the Authorization header is explicitly removed by the user agent when a request undergoes a cross-origin redirect [1][2][3]. This change was introduced to the specification (via PR #1544) to prevent sensitive credential information from being leaked to unintended origins during redirect chains [1][4]. Key details regarding this behavior include: 1. Scope: This removal applies specifically to the Authorization header when it is set by the developer (e.g., via fetch headers or XHR setRequestHeader) [1][5][6]. 2. User-Agent Credentials: This does not affect user-agent-controlled credentials (such as those managed via cookie-based authentication or automatic browser authentication), which are handled separately by the browser and are only included if the destination matches the credentials' scope [1][4]. 3. Cross-Origin vs. Same-Origin: The header is only stripped on cross-origin redirects. If the redirect remains within the same origin, the Authorization header is typically preserved [4][7]. 4. Motivation: Before this change, developers often inadvertently exposed their credentials to third-party domains if an API endpoint redirected to an external service [1][5]. 5. Implementation: This behavior has been adopted by major browsers (including Firefox and Safari) and is part of the standardized Fetch specification [7]. Workarounds for developers facing issues with this change often include: - Redirect Mode 'manual': If using an environment like Node.js or a Service Worker where you can control the redirect process, you can set the redirect mode to 'manual' [8][5]. This allows the code to catch the redirect response and manually initiate a new request to the target URL with the necessary headers, effectively bypassing the automatic redirect-following mechanism [5]. - Server-side handling: Ensuring that redirects are handled on the server to avoid cross-origin hops whenever possible [5].

🌐 Web query:
Fetch Standard cross-origin redirect custom headers preserved except Authorization
💡 Result:
Under the Fetch Standard, when a request is redirected to a cross-origin destination, the Authorization header is stripped from the request [1][2][3]. This is a security measure designed to prevent the accidental leakage of sensitive credentials to unintended third-party origins [4][1]. However, this behavior does not automatically extend to custom authentication headers (e.g., X-API-Key, X-Auth-Token) [5][6]. Because these custom headers are not part of the standard Authorization header mechanism, most standard-compliant browser implementations (and many HTTP client libraries like axios or native fetch implementations) continue to preserve and forward them during cross-origin redirects [5][7][6]. This discrepancy creates a known security risk where developers might rely on the browser's automatic stripping of the Authorization header, falsely assuming that their custom authentication tokens are protected as well [5][6]. As a result, many developers and library maintainers have had to implement manual "sensitive header" stripping logic to ensure that custom credentials are not exposed when a request follows a cross-origin redirect [5][7][6]. In summary: 1. Standard Authorization header: Automatically stripped on cross-origin redirects by modern browsers [1][2][3]. 2. Custom authentication headers: Generally preserved and forwarded by default, unless explicitly stripped by the application or the HTTP client library [5][7][6].

Propagate cancellation to runPrimaryHttp instead of racing the promise.
runPrimaryHttp(...) starts before runWithAbort receives its promise. runWithAbort only rejects its wrapper. PrimaryHttpEffectRunner accepts no AbortSignal, and livePrimaryHttpRunner calls primaryHttpRuntime.runPromise(effect) without interrupting the Effect. Therefore, cleanupCapture() can return the UI to idle while the audio POST remains active and its result is discarded. Interrupt the Effect fiber on abort, or pass the signal through to FetchHttpClient.

Settle pendingStop in dispose(); otherwise finishing stays true forever.
finishRecording awaits recorder.stop() after it sets finishing = true and enters the transcribing phase. The UI renders a Cancel control during transcribing, so cancel() can run inside that await window. cancel() calls cleanupCapture() → recorder.dispose(), which clears pendingStop without resolving or rejecting it. The stop promise then never settles, so the finally block at Line 386 never runs and finishing remains true.
After that, stop() returns immediately for every later recording (this.finishing short-circuits at Line 269), and tick() cannot auto-stop at the cap. The user can start a new recording but can no longer stop or transcribe it.
Reject the pending promise during disposal.

Enforce MAX_VOICE_AUDIO_BYTES at the HTTP body boundary.
HttpApiBuilder reads request.arrayBuffer() before it invokes transcribeCodexVoice. The production Node and Bun layers do not configure MaxBodySize, so oversized chunked requests can be buffered before the service-level check. Configure HttpIncomingMessage.MaxBodySize to MAX_VOICE_AUDIO_BYTES, retain the service-level check, and add an oversized chunked route test.

Propagate async MediaRecorder errors to the session, clear the lifted busy flag on unmount, release mic tracks when stop() rejects, abort the underlying transcribe upload on cancel, settle the recording handoff so cancel cannot wedge finishing, pin ownerKey to the pending-question target, and forward Safari mp4 bytes with matching MIME and filename.
Fetch follows redirects by default; a cross-origin redirect can strip Authorization while preserving the custom ChatGPT-Account-Id header. Request manual redirect handling so a 3xx from the transcribe endpoint surfaces as a plain transcription failure instead of re-sending credentials to a second origin.
Schema.TaggedErrorClass became Schema.TaggedError upstream; migrate VoiceProviderUnsupportedError. Re-export resolveTranscriptCommit from the voice-input barrel, which upstream stopped re-exporting but the web composer session still consumes.

Effect unstable http HttpServerRequest MaxBodySize HttpRouter serve documentation
💡 Result:
The term MaxBodySize in the context of Effect's unstable HTTP modules refers to a configuration setting used to define the maximum allowed size for an incoming HTTP request body [1][2]. In the Effect library (specifically under the unstable/http namespace), MaxBodySize is provided as a fiber reference (FiberRef) [1][2]. This allows developers to set a constraint on the size of the request body being read by the server [2]. When a request exceeds this configured limit, the system can appropriately reject the request, typically returning a 413 Payload Too Large status code, which is a standard HTTP practice for preventing memory exhaustion or denial-of-service attacks caused by excessively large payloads [3][4][5][6]. Because this functionality resides within the unstable namespace of Effect, its API signature, behavior, or underlying implementation may be subject to breaking changes in future versions [1][2]. It is recommended to check the specific version of Effect you are using to ensure the API matches your current implementation [1]. While other frameworks and languages also use concepts like MaxBodySize (such as in Rust crates or Go packages [7][3][8][9]), if you are specifically referencing the Effect-TS ecosystem, it functions as a context-aware configuration mechanism that travels with the fiber execution [1][2].

Denial of Service
Reachability: External
Exploitability: Moderate
CWE: CWE-400 — Uncontrolled Resource Consumption
Enforce the voice limit before buffering without breaking 50 MB attachments.
MAX_VOICE_AUDIO_BYTES is 25 MB, but PROVIDER_SEND_TURN_MAX_FILE_BYTES permits 50 MB uploads. Do not set the shared HttpServerRequest.MaxBodySize to the voice limit. Set the shared limit to at least the largest supported upload, then enforce the voice limit before args.payload is materialized. Add tests for oversized chunked voice uploads and valid 50 MB attachments.

…n, declared-length gate Include the pending request id in the voice draft ownerKey so a late transcript cannot land on a newer request that reuses the question index, id, and draft text. Construct ComposerVoiceSession in the mount effect instead of during render so StrictMode effect replay leaves a usable session. Reject oversize or malformed Content-Length declarations before credential reads and upstream transcription work.

thanks for the dictation work. we are closing this on feature scope. we are not adding this new web/desktop voice feature and transcription backend now. requests use the backend also reads we also do not want a permanent disabled microphone for unsupported providers with a "coming soon" promise. desktop microphone setup and Safari format verification remain unresolved for the proposed capture support. closed at the request of @StiensWout. |

Thanks for the detailed feedback and for reviewing the work.
Understood on the feature scope. I’ll leave this closed and won’t pursue the web/desktop voice path further for now.
The notes around environment/account routing, reusing "VoiceInputController", and avoiding the separate auth/transcription path are helpful. If voice support comes back into scope later, I’ll make sure any implementation follows those existing abstractions rather than introducing a parallel path.
Thanks again.

Subject: Re: [pingdotgg/t3code] feat(voice): add Codex-native dictation mic beside composer attach (PR #11278)

thanks for the dictation work. we are closing this on feature scope. we are not adding this new web/desktop voice feature and transcription backend now.
requests use PrimaryEnvironmentHttpClient, while the server selects the first configured Codex instance without matching the thread selection or checking whether the instance is enabled. that routing does not fit a multi-environment app: recording can use the wrong environment or account, or fail despite the selected account being usable.
the backend also reads auth.json directly and calls a private, undocumented endpoint with hardcoded Codex Desktop identity headers. this creates a separate authentication and compatibility path. a separate web voice-session controller duplicates responsibilities already handled by VoiceInputController, including cancellation, draft ownership, and insertion.
we also do not want a permanent disabled microphone for unsupported providers with a "coming soon" promise. desktop microphone setup and Safari format verification remain unresolved for the proposed capture support.

Adds a Codex-style dictation button (record -> stop -> transcript as editable draft) immediately left of the attach action in the chat composer footer.
How it works:
Verification:
Follow-ups: composer.dictate keybinding, desktop mic entitlement copy, Safari mp4-vs-webm check.
Built with Muse Spark via T3 Code (OpenCode harness).
