Fixes #1046

Docs-not-needed: test-only case for the strip's refused invite read (#1046)

Test-only: the group strip's invite button when the host refuses the read.

Reproduce

GroupStrip draws Invite by link only when known — read.roomId === roomId && read.done. A host without a room-invite route never resolves the read, so the failure branch is the only thing that sets done there (plugins/social/client.js, the second callback of the read effect at :2199). Drop that one call and the strip draws the group name and members but no invite entry at all, on every older host — and the suite stays green, because every existing case (#998, #1019, #1038) answers the read successfully.

What changed

plugins/social/test/social.test.js, one case: a blank local group whose host('room-invite', …) rejects.

  • the read happens once, the button is there after it settles, and nothing is minted by the read;
  • one click calls room-invite-mint exactly once and the minted URL is on screen;
  • no note is drawn where a link would go (group-strip-note absent, before and after the click).

No production file changes.

What I ran

  • plugins/social on this tip: 452/452, 0 skipped (base 699d03d9 is 451, plus this case).
  • oxlint on plugins/social/src + test: 0 errors.

Red without the source change

Two knives, each reddening only this case:

  • leave read.done unset in the failure branch (}, () => {})): 451/452, red at "a refused read is still this room's answer: the button is there".
  • paint a note from that branch (setNote('Could not read')): 451/452, red at "nothing is drawn where the error would be".

Nothing else moves in either direction — the successful-read cases (#1019, #1038) and the rest of the suite stay green.

Not run

  • The live two-home probe (selftest/probe-face.mjs): this case is about the dock's read, not the server.
  • Core suites: no core/ file in this diff.

Risk

  • T0: test-only, no behaviour changed. The case pins an existing branch; if that branch is ever rewritten, this test is what says the button still appears.

Test-only, as claimed: against its base 699d03d9 the diff is exactly plugins/social/test/social.test.js (+29/−0); no production file and no core/ file moves, so ds-bot-patches has nothing to check.

The case pins the branch that only an old host reaches: GroupStrip draws Invite by link only when known, and a host without a room-invite route settles nothing but the failure callback (client.js:2203), which is the only thing that sets read.done there. Both halves of that branch carry the case — button present after the refused read, no note drawn — and the mint side is covered too (one click → one room-invite-mint, URL on screen, still no note).

Ran:

$ cd plugins/social && TZ=UTC TMPDIR=… DSH_HARNESS=/opt/flybot node --import ./test/resolve.mjs --test "test/*.test.js"
1..452
# tests 452
# pass 452
# fail 0
# skipped 0

$ (knife 1) failure callback reduced to () => {} — read.done never set
not ok 263 - #1046: a host that refuses the invite read still offers the button, and reading never mints
# tests 452
# pass 451
# fail 1

$ (knife 2) failure callback also paints a note
not ok 263 - #1046: a host that refuses the invite read still offers the button, and reading never mints
# tests 452
# pass 451
# fail 1

Each knife reddens only this case and no other, so the case is about this branch and not about the strip in general. CI on the tip is green everywhere except enqueue-guard, which is waiting for this report.

Non-blocking (no INC)

plugins/social/test/social.test.js — the case does not assert why the button appeared, only that it did after the refusal settled. A regression that answered the read with an empty invite instead of rejecting would keep it green while hiding the "the read failed, show the button anyway" rule. One comment-level guard is enough if the fake host is made to reject and the read call count asserted (it already counts the read once), so this is only worth pinning when that effect is next touched.

Root cause found, and the tip does not need to move.

The merge queue is squash-only, so the entry GitHub builds is a single-parent commit made from the PR title plus the PR body — my branch commit never appears in that history:

61057c81  parents [c062fb02]   message "Test the strip's invite button… (#1046) (#1061)" + the PR body

check-arch-docs.mjs:107 greps git log origin/main..HEAD, so the Docs-not-needed: line that dc07b625 carries is invisible there, while filesNeedDocs still sees the changed plugins/social/test/social.test.js. That is the whole failure: not the tests, not the docs.

Fixed by adding the trailer to the PR body (the commit already had it, so both places now carry it, which docs/code-standards.md:61 asks for). head is still dc07b625, mergeable: true / clean, one file +29/−0 — no new tip, so the PASS at dc07b625 still applies. Only the queue entry has to be re-created (--dry then enqueue).

I also opened an issue for the misleading FAIL text: it says "add a Docs-not-needed: trailer" without saying the queue reads it out of the squashed PR body, which sends you to the commit message and burns a queue round.

The group strip draws "Invite by link" from `known`, and the only thing that makes it known on a host
without a `room-invite` route is the read's failure branch setting `read.done`. Nothing exercised that
branch, so a regression there would take the strip's only invite entry away on every older host and leave
the suite green (#1046).

The case mounts the strip on a blank local group whose `room-invite` rejects: the button is there, the
read mints nothing, no note is drawn where a link would go, and one click mints exactly once and shows the
link. Two knives, each reddening only this case: leaving `done` unset in the failure branch (the button
never appears) and painting a note from it (the "no error note" assertion).

Amended as asked: tip is now 4623893b (tree unchanged, one parent 699d03d9), message ends with

Docs-not-needed: test-only case for the strip's refused invite read (#1046)

Fixes #1046

One fact worth keeping, because it made the previous round ambiguous: the old tip dc07b625 already carried a Docs-not-needed: line in its message (test-only, no behaviour changed.), so the amend could not have been what was missing there. What the queue entry actually carried is the squashed commit 61057c81: single parent c062fb02, message = PR title + PR body — my branch commit never appears in that git log. Both places now carry the line, so the gate passes either way, and #1076 tracks the misleading FAIL text.

Body Tip SHA updated to 4623893b. Nothing else changed: one file, +29/−0, tests as reviewed.

This tip carries the same tree as dc07b625 — commit.tree is 063929a21ba5 for both — so nothing but the commit message moved; the commit now ends with Docs-not-needed: test-only case for the strip's refused invite read (#1046), which is the trailer arch-docs wants (check-arch-docs.mjs:107 reads git log base..HEAD --pretty=%B, so the body line alone was never going to count). No source or test line changed, so the earlier evidence stands unchanged rather than being re-derived:

Ran:

$ cd plugins/social && TZ=UTC TMPDIR=… DSH_HARNESS=/opt/flybot node --import ./test/resolve.mjs --test "test/*.test.js"
1..452
# tests 452
# pass 452
# fail 0
# skipped 0

$ (knife 1) failure callback reduced to () => {} — read.done never set
not ok 263 - #1046: a host that refuses the invite read still offers the button, and reading never mints
# pass 451  # fail 1

$ (knife 2) failure callback also paints a note
not ok 263 - #1046: a host that refuses the invite read still offers the button, and reading never mints
# pass 451  # fail 1

Diff against base 699d03d9 is still the one test file (+29/−0); Node 24 and tests-ok are green on this tip, enqueue-guard was only waiting for this report.

Rebased onto d8068c5 (#1067, #1061). This machine has no git, so `generate` cannot run:
the generated artifacts were rebuilt here and `node scripts/ds-bot-patches.mjs check`
(strict applier, core/ == ds-bot/ + patches) is the oracle and is ok. core/client.js was
rebuilt from the merged client sources with core/scripts/build-client.mjs, and the 0002
(constants.js, tools.js) and 0008 (client.js) sections were regenerated from ds-bot/.

Fixes ThinkFlowLab#1076

Routing: `Reviewer:` moved to Reviewer2 by Chief on 2026-10-25 (Reviewer
has nine pull requests and this one has waited longest without a
conclusion). Code and tip untouched.

## Reproduce

\`core/scripts/check-arch-docs.mjs\` printed \`Update the subsystem doc
in docs/subsystems/ or add a
"Docs-not-needed:" trailer.\` while the gate reads \`git log
<base>..HEAD --pretty=%B\`. On a merge-queue
entry that range holds the squash of the pull request **title and
body**, so a trailer in a branch commit
is invisible there. On ThinkFlowLab#1061 the commit \`dc07b625\` carried
\`Docs-not-needed: test-only, no behaviour
changed.\`; the queue entry \`61057c81\` (single parent \`c062fb02\`,
message = PR title + body) failed, and
the hint pointed at the commit the author had just pushed.

## What changed

- The refusal text moved into an exported \`failureLines(missing,
root)\`, so a test can read it without
running the gate. It names both places — the pull request body **and**
the branch commit — and says why
  the body counts (the queue squashes it into the commit it judges).
- Same pass/fail decisions; no comparison, no rule touched.
- \`docs/subsystems/install.md\` (owns \`core/scripts/\`) and the
\`arch-docs\` bullet in
\`docs/autonomous-dev.md\` say the same thing where the gate is
documented.
- The two mirrored copies under \`patches/ds-bot/files/\` carry the
identical change: this machine has no
git, and \`ds-bot-patches generate\` refuses without it, so the tool's
own message ("edit core/ and
  patches/ds-bot/ together and run check") is the path taken.

## What I ran

- \`cd core && TZ=UTC node --import ./test/harness-resolve.mjs --test
test/check-arch-docs.test.js\` →
**5 pass, 1 fail**, and the failure is \`empty diff passes\` → \`cannot
diff against HEAD\`: this box has no
git, so every case that shells out to \`git\` fails here, before and
after the change (the same file on
  the base tree shows the same failure).
- \`node scripts/ds-bot-patches.mjs check\` → \`ok 10 patches apply
cleanly in order\` +
\`ok core/ equals ds-bot/ + patches/ds-bot/\` (the pin line skips itself
without git).
- \`diff -rq\` against a \`d797cbe4\` tree: exactly the 6 files above.

## Red without the source change

With \`export\` removed from \`failureLines\`, the new case fails:
\`typeof undefined\` — the other five cases
are unchanged, so the red is the text not being available at all.
Restored, \`cmp\` clean.

## Not run

- \`npm run verify\` / the whole core suite: this box has no git
(\`arch-docs\` itself cannot run) and no
  esbuild; only the gate's own test file is in scope for a text change.
- A live failing run of \`arch-docs\`: needs a checkout with git and a
base ref; the text is unit-tested
  instead, which is why the function is exported.

## Risk

- None to a decision: the gate's exit codes and comparisons are
untouched; only the strings change.
- A hand-edited mirror drifts if someone later runs \`generate\` from a
machine with git — but \`check\` is
what CI runs, and it passes on this tree, so a drift would be caught
there.

Fixes ThinkFlowLab#1021

## What changed

The new-chat picker had one row titled **Join or create by number or
link**, so a person who wanted to join a group that already exists read
a create path first and the label named neither action (ThinkFlowLab#892 wrote that
label to cover both ways in). The picker now carries two rows, and the
screen they open is titled after the row that was tapped.

- `plugins/social/client.js`: `social-face-join` (**Join by number or
link**) and `social-face-start` (**Start a face-to-face room**) replace
`social-face-group`, ordered 15/16 with Add friend moving to 17. Both
call the same `openFaceToFace` handler, which now passes `join`/`start`
through the panel opener; `FaceToFaceGroup` takes `mode` and uses it for
the dialog title and aria-label. The start path keeps the six-digit
input (a room is built by typing one number together) and drops the
invite-link and scan fields, because those are ways into a group that
already exists. Nothing else in the flow changes: same endpoints, same
`join()`/`joinLocal()` handlers, same waiting room.
- `core/src/client/i18n.js` (+ the rebuilt `core/client.js`, carried by
`patches/ds-bot/0008-client-bundle.patch`): the old `Join or create by
number or link` entry is gone; `Join by number or link` (用号码或链接加入),
`Start a face-to-face room` (面对面建群), the start row hint and its about
copy are added, so a zh UI still reads Chinese (ThinkFlowLab#892).
- Docs: `social.md` (the two rows and what each one carries),
`plugin-runtime.md` (three `flybot.new-chat.action` rows) and
`core-client.md` (the four keys behind those two rows). Release note:
`changelog.d/1021-join-and-start-are-two-entries.changed.md`.

## Rebase history, and why this tip is the only live one

`361345da` (base `d797cbe4`), `3dc611c6` (base `11f3f8ca`), `09657000`
and `bba0ec5a` (base `267d3bcb`) are all void: each went `dirty` because
`main` moved under the same files. This tip is one commit on the live
base `0972daa7`, where `ThinkFlowLab#1150` and `ThinkFlowLab#1155` had touched five of these ten
files. `plugins/social/client.js`, `social.test.js`, `social.md`,
`core-client.md` and `i18n.js` are three-way merges (base `267d3bcb`,
main `0972daa7`, this change), `core/client.js` is rebuilt from the
merged client sources, and both patch blocks (`0001`, `0008`) are
recomputed from the merged tree rather than hand-merged. The pull
request's file list is the same ten files it was before the rebase —
nothing from `main` is reverted.

## Verification at the tip

Tip SHA: 7c00e55

On the pushed tree, freshly unpacked (`TZ=UTC`, `DSH_HARNESS` pointed at
the local DSH 0.2.0-rc.2 install):

```
node scripts/ds-bot-patches.mjs check
skipped pin (no git): the tree hash cannot be computed here
ok   10 patches apply cleanly in order
ok   core/ equals ds-bot/ + patches/ds-bot/
node core/scripts/build-client.mjs --check   -> exit 0
node .github/scripts/changelog.mjs check     -> 43 fragment(s) well formed
plugins/social test/*.test.js                -> 516 pass / 0 fail
core i18n + new-chat                         -> 13 pass / 0 fail
```

The acceptance case is `ThinkFlowLab#1021: the join row opens the screen with the
6-digit input and the link field, the start row the one without`: it
runs each row through the registry, checks the dialog title and
aria-label follow the row, asserts the 6-digit input (`aria-label
6-digit room number`) is on the join-shaped row, and that the start
screen has no `fs-link-input`, no `face-link-join` and no `face-scan`.
The row test above it asserts both labels exist and that the old mixed
label is gone. The `ThinkFlowLab#1019`/`ThinkFlowLab#1038`/`ThinkFlowLab#1061` cases Triage named are inside
the 516 and stay green.

Knife: put `main`'s `0972daa7` `plugins/social/client.js` back (the
whole source change of this PR) -> 6 fail / 510 pass: the two `ThinkFlowLab#1021`
cases, the row/registry list, the "+ menu" case, the Add-friend panel
case and the `ThinkFlowLab#892` dialog title case. Restored, 516/516.

Not run: the full core suite (it forks and aborts on this box); oxlint
is not installed here. CI `tests-ok` covers both. `arch-docs` cannot
diff without git here — `social.md`, `plugin-runtime.md` and
`core-client.md` are updated in this PR.
