GIT_WORK_TREE for the entire test before its first Git command, and use that
sanitized environment for both the subprocess.run fixture commands and

Incremental harvesting reads
git diff --name-onlyas lines. Git quotes non-ASCII and control-character filenames, so the returned strings are not the repository paths. Include filters can silently discard them, and commit-scoped content reads cannot find them. Disablingcore.quotePathdoes not solve control-character quoting.Use
git diff --name-only -zand decode NUL-delimited bytes withos.fsdecode, preserving filenames while retaining sorted, deduplicated results and the existing commit verification.Real Git regression tests fail on the unchanged detector and pass with this fix. They cover both
core.quotePathsettings, nested/non-ASCII/spaced/quoted/control-character paths, reading each changed file's committed contents, added and untracked files, unchanged snapshots, and deleted paths. The existing command-contract test is updated for binary output.Validation: focused tests pass (5 tests);
make lintpasses including the OpenAPI guardrail;make testpasses (1,040 tests run, 6 skipped). Strict mypy reports the same 2,045 pre-existing errors in 193 files, with zero additional diagnostics relative to the backend baseline. Independent review found no blocking issues. Local validation used Python 3.14; repository CI uses Python 3.12.3.This change concerns
ChangeDetector, independently ofDiffParserwork in #1032 / #1056 and first-run bootstrap work in #1128 / #1129. No dependency or schema changes. Deleted paths remain in the detector output; downstream deletion handling is outside this fix.
