🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win
Pair embedded recording audio with the microphone sidecar.
If fallback info contains videoPath and a .mic.wav path but no .system. path, this code adds microphone-only and recording-only candidates. extractCaptionAudioSource accepts the first audible candidate. Captions can then omit either embedded system audio or microphone audio.
Add a combined videoPath and microphone candidate before the individual fallbacks when fallback paths includes the recording video. Apply the microphone start delay to the secondary input. Add coverage for this fallback layout.

The helper announced "Recording started" as soon as SCStream.startCapture() returned, but the video timeline's zero point is the first frame AVAssetWriter accepts. The renderer microphone starts before the video helper and its pre-roll is trimmed by (first-frame time - microphone start), so using the pre-frame readiness signal left that announcement-to-first-frame gap in the sidecar and made the microphone play ahead of the video by up to a few hundred milliseconds. Only a complete frame that the writer can accept may establish time zero, and readiness is now reported after that frame is appended (matching the upstream native capture behavior). Audio is dropped until the first video frame so it cannot create negative timestamps. Rebuilt the ScreenCaptureKit helpers for both macOS architectures.
MediaRecorder containers normally start at PTS 0, but normalizing first keeps the pre-roll trim exact if a platform emits a non-zero start time.

Receiving "Recording started" over stdout adds queue and IPC latency to the microphone pre-roll calculation. Emit the host-clock capture time of the first accepted frame alongside the readiness line and use it when present, so the trim targets when the frame was actually captured. Falls back to receipt time for helpers that do not include the timestamp.

Wait for the complete readiness line.
If stdout splits Recording started 1761234567890\n after 176, this regex accepts 176 and resolves before the remaining digits arrive. The incorrect capture time can make microphone pre-roll trimming remove the entire sidecar. Match the terminating newline before parsing the timestamp, and test a split within the digits. Node streams deliver chunks, not complete application messages. (nodejs.org)

Report readiness only after the first frame appends.
If videoInput.append(retimedSampleBuffer) returns false, the code still increments frameCount and prints Recording started. The rejected frame then sets the video time base used for audio, although it is not in the recording. Check the append result before updating frame state or reporting readiness. If the first append fails, reset firstSampleTime so a later accepted frame can establish time zero. Apple documents append returning false when it does not append a sample. (developer.apple.com)

The Insta360/USB microphone used in testing delivered its first sample ~0.8s after getUserMedia resolved. MediaRecorder's file timeline starts with that first sample, so the video started (and the recorder clock was anchored) ~0.8s too early. The pre-roll trim then removed audio that was never at the front of the file, leaving the microphone consistently late (source 172,578 B / 5.43s WAV for a 6.07s video in the reported capture). Read the first AudioData through MediaStreamTrackProcessor before creating the recorder and starting the video, bounded by a 4s timeout. The track is then already flowing, so recorder.start() and the video share a real time zero. Store the applied pre-roll in the sidecar metadata for future diagnostics.
