[BUG] Lenovo Yoga Pro 7 15IPH11 (83SN) — No SoundWire machine driver found, sof_sdw probe fails with duplicate sysfs filename (SDW3-Playback-SimpleJack)
Describe the bug
On a fresh Fedora 44 install, no sound card is registered for the internal audio (speakers or 3.5mm jack). Only the NVIDIA HDMI audio outputs are visible in aplay -l. Bluetooth audio works fine, confirming this is isolated to the internal SoundWire audio path.
The kernel log shows the SOF driver failing to find a dedicated SoundWire machine driver for this configuration, falling back to the generic "default machine driver with function topologies" path, which then fails to probe due to a duplicate sysfs filename collision (SDW3-Playback-SimpleJack).
To Reproduce
- Boot Fedora 44 on a Lenovo Yoga Pro 7 15IPH11 (Type 83SN).
- Check
dmesg | grep -iE "sof|soundwire|snd".
- Check
aplay -l — no sof-soundwire card is listed, only NVIDIA HDMI outputs.
Expected behavior
The sof-soundwire sound card should register successfully, exposing the internal speakers, the 3.5mm jack, and the microphone array.
Actual behavior
Machine driver probe fails with error -12, no internal sound card is created. Speakers and headphone jack are both completely silent, even though PipeWire/ALSA show activity (level meters move) — audio is being generated by applications but never reaches any physical output.

No sof-soundwire card is present — the internal audio card fails to register entirely.
Additional notes
- Similar "No SoundWire machine driver found" / generic fallback failures have been reported on other Panther Lake laptops (e.g. Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 14, tracked separately for a microphone-only symptom), suggesting the static machine-driver quirk table has not yet caught up with several new Panther Lake SoundWire link configurations.
- This specific failure is a name collision in the generic/default machine driver fallback path (
SDW3-Playback-SimpleJack created twice), which crashes the whole card registration (error -12) rather than just disabling one function — meaning even a partial fallback isn't usable here.
- Both the internal speakers and the 3.5mm headphone jack are affected equally, consistent with them sharing the same failed
sof_sdw card.
