Kernel 0.9.16 fixes activation receipt inspection when unpublished package
source is missing and ships official Deno 2.9.8, which returns a controlled
error for unsupported explicit-parameter client certificates/keys in direct
calls and Workers. It recommends
Jobs 0.9.6, whose administration
test fixtures now isolate their execution contexts; production Jobs behavior is
unchanged.
The runtime update applies to newly constructed service/job sandboxes and fresh development templates. Existing development sandboxes retain their private system root and Deno binary: update Deno there explicitly or create a fresh sandbox. Restarting a retained development sandbox alone does not replace its Deno binary. Already running old executables also need replacement before they benefit from the runtime fix. This release does not establish the cause of the reported sandbox restarts or deploy changes to customer systems.
Kernel 0.9.15 adds the native APIs for the administration console, literal log
search and authenticated host-node sandbox log access. Upgrade it together with
admin-core 0.9.0,
dev-skills 0.9.3 and
UUI 0.9.11. UUI includes the
native test-harness installer correction; its application behavior is unchanged.
The installed bootstrap list pins the complete compatible package set, including
users 0.9.7, auth 0.8.3, services 0.7.6, deployments 0.9.7, HTTPS
0.9.4 and dev-core 0.9.4. Kernel and users must retain their matching
trusted HTTP authentication hook contract.
Use the ordinary kernel updater, which refreshes the runtime SDK and development helpers before applying recommended package versions. Do not install the new admin-core or log helper against an older kernel. Existing package edits, local commits, custom sources or newer versions can cause recommendations to be skipped; check the update result. Restart existing development sandboxes after upgrading so their helper mounts and instruction files refresh.
Kernel calls requires the the8020.admin-core.kernel.execute permission, which
grants native administration including mutations; output retains approximately
64 KiB. Secure-input calls require native admin or their dedicated screens.
Kernel logs requires the8020.admin-core.logs.view for the exact node. Search
is case-sensitive literal text; Copy page and Save page contain exactly the
displayed bounded page, including when filters have unsubmitted edits. The
administration features retain these limits in 0.9.16.
Run this one-liner as root inside the existing container to update to
0.9.16. It supports rootless development containers at /8020 running kernel
0.7.4 or newer:
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/the8020/kernel/0.9.16/docker/update.sh \
-o /tmp/update.sh && bash /tmp/update.sh 0.9.16After printing Bootstrap started or Update started, the updater continues in
the background. Follow its progress with:
tail -F /8020/node/kernel/update.logCompletion is reported as update: completed 0.9.16. Ctrl-C stops following the
log while the updater keeps running. Confirm the running version and startup
status with:
admin --root /8020 --json kernel.statusThe update builds inside the container, requires at least 6 GiB free disk,
and interrupts running work. It preserves data and configuration. After startup,
it installs missing recommended packages and advances older versions using the
new kernel's node/kernel/scripts/bootstrap-packages.toml. Entries with a
version select that Git tag; entries without one follow the remote default
branch. Updates only fast-forward and preserve local commits, uncommitted edits,
custom sources, and newer versions, reporting skipped packages. A package
installation failure keeps the update pending; retry the same kernel version
after repairing it. Unpublished edits in shared package directories can block
activation of other packages; publish that work or move it aside before
retrying.
To apply the current kernel's recommendations independently:
admin --root /8020 kernel.packages.recommendedFor an installation using the former bundled Caddy proxy, this release also
updates the required HTTPS packages and installs the native HTTPS launcher. Wait
for HTTPS update: prepared, then restart the container once. That restart
stops Caddy, imports its certificates and settings, and transfers ports 443 and
9080 to the kernel. The existing certificate files remain available for
recovery. Local package edits or unsupported legacy settings stop preparation
for repair.
For dev/prod, update /8020 first, then run the same script with
THE8020_INSTANCE_ROOT=/8020-prod. Wait for both updates before restarting the
container; production retains ports 8443 and 9081. Subsequent native kernel
updates keep the enclosing launcher running.
Docker builds and updates share install.sh. The updater prepares a
separate staging instance and installs only platform assets. It requires a saved
script file for its background handoff, so direct curl | sh is unsupported.
