[Bug]: Behavior of Trash #773
Description
Before reporting
- I'm on the latest release and the issue still happens.
- I searched existing issues and didn't find a duplicate.
What happened?
When there are bunch of items in the Trash, I use Ctrl+Click or Shift+Click to select some of the Songs. Then I click Empty Trash button and all songs are deleted. There is no way to delete only the selected ones.
Solution
- If I select some of the Songs in the Trash list, then ideally button should not say Empty Trash but say Empty Selected Items or Empty Selected Songs...
- It would be good to delete with the Delete key as well once songs are selected. This will stay true to Windows filesystem behavior.
- When the All the songs in the Trash are deleted. The Empty Trash button should be "grayed" out. Just like the Empty Recycle Bin behaves in Windows.
- On that note may Trash could be renamed to Recycle Bin, in a way it is recycling things either into the library or gone for good.
Now moving on to Queue and Library. Would be good to get this same behavior to Ctrl/Click Shift/Click, Delete etc to consistent across these Trash, Queue and Library
Now the few of the many selected songs in the queue can be recovered by holding the mouse button down and all the selected one restore beautifully BUT Only 1 Song's sub-text changes to say Hold left click for 1 second to restore. Not the other selected ones.
My suggestion is lose the subtext line/filed altogether. Secondly, at the top, have 2 buttons Empty Selected Songs and Restore Selected Songs. For simplicity if you go with Trash being called Recycle Bin, then these 2 buttons could simply be Trash and Restore
Ok I am getting to the greedy section
- when restoring, the animation on the songs go from left to right in a yellowish color. Maybe while deleting if goes from right to left in red?
- Would definitely like to see Recycle Bin, Queue and Library behave in a similar manner for these select/delete/restore
- And if the capability to delete via the delete button is added, then maybe restore could be via Back button ( as in put the songs back)

Thanks for laying out how you would expect Trash to behave. I will look into this for the next release.

Empty Trash empties everything, by design, so selecting rows does not limit it. Holding a row restores it, and several selected rows restore together. The other ideas, such as a Delete key, a Recycle Bin name and matching behaviour across Library, Queue and Trash, are noted. I am keeping them for a later round of interface work, so I will not promise them for this release.
Let me know how it goes. You can follow @stemdeckapp for release news.
fix(library): oldest first like the Queue, and Queue remove only stop…
