I'm on the latest release and the issue still happens.
I searched existing issues and didn't find a duplicate.
What happened?
I played the song Plug in Baby by Muse. Its scale as recorded is B harmonic minor scale. However Stemdeck engine reports it as D Major. Technically it not wrong as D Major is the relative major of B harmonic minor scale.
On one hand I could view this as Not a Bug but then every minor scale has a relative major scale, so in a sense everything could be just stated as Major. That doesn't seem right.
However, I picked this song to not only see what Stemdeck reports and to also see if it shows it well in the UI. I was pretty sure it wouldn't as the Scale Field in the UI feels like it is short in length
Steps to reproduce
Please check why it doesn't detect the scale correctly
Also this song was detected as Major and it seems that info is redundant in many places In the UI. See image
My suggestion for UI is
I believe the Fields for BPM Duration, and Dynamic Range are unnecessarily too long.
lose the field called Scale. Make Key Field long enough to show for instance.... B Harmonic MInor XXX%
The detector now listens to how the song starts and ends, which is where a song usually sits on its home chord, and after separation it checks again using the bass stem on its own. It can now also report harmonic minor. On a set of test songs with known keys, it went from 21 to 30 out of 33 correct.
On the display, Key and Scale are now one field, so a song reads "B minor" or "B harmonic minor" once instead of three times, and the field is wider so it fits.
Songs already in your library keep the key they were given; separating one again picks up the new detection. This is in the next release. Let me know what it says for Plug in Baby.
