I'm on the latest release and the issue still happens.
I searched existing issues and didn't find a duplicate.
What happened?
When Clicktrack is off, I still expected the count-in to work but it doesnt.
Steps to reproduce
In the Click track pop up menu, select a CountIn value, Turn the Grid ON
The Click the Clicktrack button to turn it off, its icon is not highlighted anymore, as expected.
The play the song. CountIn is also disabled along with the Clicktrack but the Grid is still ON. With the current implementation I would expect everything in the pop-up menu will default to OFF (unhighlighted) if the Clicktrack button is Off.
Suggestions:
I think the it would be better if the Main UI Only shows, like Moises, just a metronome icon, no text. All other Click track options are in the pop up
Once you click that metronome, you get all the pop up elements as I show in the mockup (attached)
This way UI usability issues will go away.
Thanks for this, and for the mockup. Two separate things in here, and I have gone the opposite way to your suggestion on one of them, so it is worth saying why.
The part that is a real bug is still open. Turning the click track off leaves Grid highlighted. You are right that it reads as inconsistent: if the feature is off, the things inside its menu should not look active. That one I have not touched yet.
On the count-in, that is working as intended, though I can see why it reads as a fault. The count-in belongs to the click: it counts you in to the clicks that follow. With the click track off there is nothing to count into, so it goes quiet with it. If what you actually want is a count-in before playback whether or not the click is running, that is a different feature and a fair request, and worth its own issue.
On the suggestion to show only a metronome icon and put everything in the popup, I have just done the reverse, so let me explain rather than leave you to find it. Until now those options were hidden whenever a track had no beat grid, and with no track at all, so half the control strip appeared and vanished depending on what was loaded. That read as a fault rather than as a state. They stay on the row now and grey out instead, which is how the metronome button beside them and every unavailable lane in the mixer already behave.
That said, your underlying point stands: that row is crowded. It already collapses the click options behind a single button when the window is narrow, which is close to what your mockup describes, just triggered by width rather than always. If it still feels cluttered on a wide screen once the next release is out, tell me and I will look again, because at that point it is a judgement about the row rather than about consistency.
The Grid state is the part I will fix. Thanks for the report.
This is fixed in #682 and will go out in the next release.
One correction to what I said earlier: the count-in is meant to work with the click track off, and it now does. What you ran into was a bug where the count-in only played on the first play of a track. Grid also no longer stays lit when the click is off, and the click button is now just the metronome icon, as you suggested. That also covers the count-in on its own that you asked for: switch the click off and set a count-in.

it will be awesome to get just CountIn versus Countin+clicktrack at some point.
