Calculate the SRI hash for custom domains on the SRI page - #73
Stacked on #62 (script version 12). Merge after simpleanalytics/infrastructure#315 is deployed: until then, /sri/v12.js on custom domains serves latest.js, and the form shows an error instead of a hash.
The SRI page now points custom-domain users to https://CUSTOM.DOMAIN/sri/v{{ page.sriVersion }}.js, the same path as on the CDN. A form takes their custom domain, fetches that script (cache: "no-store"), checks for SRI-version in its first line, and shows the script tag with its SHA-384 hash, calculated in the browser. It accepts input like https://sa.example.com/latest.js and keeps only the hostname. If the domain doesn't respond, or returns something other than an SRI script, the form shows an error.
The page gets skip_pjax: true like the embed chart page, and the script only binds once.
Security implications
No security impact
Has security impact - described as: the page fetches a script from a hostname the visitor enters. It only hashes the response and writes it with textContent; nothing is executed or inserted as HTML.
Testing
Built the site with Jekyll 3.9 (Ruby 2.7 in Docker) and served it on localhost:4000. Requests to Simple Analytics hosts were blocked in the test browser.
Ran local Caddy containers over HTTPS with the infrastructure#315 Caddyfile (sa.example.test) and with the previous Caddyfile (old.example.test), then used the form in headless Chrome:
https://SA.example.test/latest.js gives https://sa.example.test/sri/v12.js with the same hash as openssl dgst -sha384 of the served file.
old.example.test, which serves latest.js at /sri/v12.js, shows the error.
A domain that doesn't resolve shows the error.
Chrome loads the generated tag. As a control, a tag with the wrong hash is blocked.

Documentation
Updated custom-domain setup instructions to use the current script URL.
Added a form that fetches the script without caching, checks the response and version marker, and displays its SHA-384 integrity hash or an error.
Results are shown only for the latest submission, helping prevent an earlier request from replacing a newer result.

Walkthrough
The SRI page metadata is updated. Its custom-domain instructions replace manual hash generation with a form that fetches a versioned script, validates it, and displays the SHA-384 integrity hash or an error.

Summary
Custom-domain script validation and hash display _docs/20_install-script/19_sri.md
The page adds a form that fetches the versioned /sri/ script for the entered domain without caching. It checks for a successful response and an SRI-version marker on the first line, then displays a SHA-384 integrity hash or an error. Only the latest submission may display a result. The metadata sets skip_pjax: true and updates last_modified_at to 2026-10-29.

Before / after behavior
observed — Modified behavior in _docs/20_install-script/19_sri.md: The metadata adds skip_pjax: true and changes last_modified_at from 2026-10-25 to 2026-10-29; the permalink, SRI version, and hashes are unchanged.
observed — Modified behavior in _docs/20_install-script/19_sri.md: The custom-domain instructions replace the /v{{ page.sriVersion }}/app.js URL and external hash-generator links with a form that generates an embed script. On submission, it normalizes the entered domain, fetches its versioned /sri/ script without caching, and accepts it only if the response is successful and the first line contains SRI-version. It calculates a SHA-384 hash and displays the script only for the latest submission; fetch, validation, or hash-generation errors display an error.

Explanation
Issue #72 requires the SRI page to help custom-domain users obtain the correct integrity hash without an external hash service. The page now uses the versioned custom-domain /sri/v{{ page.sriVersion }}.js path, accepts a domain or URL, fetches with cache: "no-store", validates the SRI-version marker, computes SHA-384, and displays the script tag with textContent. Error handling covers failed or invalid responses. The submission ID check prevents an older request from replacing a newer result.

Explanation
The changes stay within issue #72. The skip_pjax metadata, updated custom-domain instructions, form, validation, hashing, stale-submission protection, and error display directly support the SRI page objective. No unrelated product behavior or unrelated files are present in the reviewed diff.

Prevent stale submissions from overwriting the current result.
If the user submits twice before the first request finishes, both handlers update the same result. An older response can finish last and display a hash for a different domain than the latest submission. Track the active request or abort the previous request before updating result or error.

Applied the stale-submission finding in 80fd3f9: each submit gets an incrementing id, and only the latest one may write the result or the error.
Verified on a local Jekyll build in headless Chrome: I submitted slow.example.test (response delayed 1.5 s) and then sa.example.test right away. After 3 s the result still shows the sa.example.test tag with the expected hash. The earlier checks (input normalization, an unknown domain showing the error) still pass.
fetch has no application-level timeout here. If a custom domain accepts the connection but never completes the response, the promise can remain pending while both error and result stay hidden. This does not satisfy the error path for a non-responding domain. Use an AbortController with a finite timeout and clear the timer in finally.
Proposed fix
+ var controller = new AbortController();+ var timeout = setTimeout(function () {+ controller.abort();+ }, 10000);
try {
- var response = await fetch(src, { cache: "no-store" });+ var response = await fetch(src, { cache: "no-store", signal: controller.signal });
var body = await response.arrayBuffer();
...
} catch (e) {
...
+ } finally {+ clearTimeout(timeout);

Add a finite timeout to the fetch flow around `fetch(src, ...)` using an
`AbortController`, pass its signal to the request, and clear the timer in a
`finally` block so a non-responding domain eventually reaches the existing error
path.
