feat(swap-service): dispute a claim on a transaction an older quote holds - #66
Conversation
…olds Precedence evaluates one claim at a time, so several claims on one transaction each precede it independently and no timestamp separates them. The oldest quote takes the transaction and the rest are recorded DISPUTED, which the payout gate already withholds. Ties break on swapId so the winner is stable, and a null quotedAt never competes. 📝 WalkthroughWalkthroughThe swap service now prevents duplicate preceding-quote attribution and resolves attribution contests using chain verdicts, quote ordering, and dispute updates. Polling uses the new resolver. Tests cover contest outcomes and creation guards. ChangesSwap attribution

Names the verdict pair once as AttributionVerdict and reuses it, so the DISPUTED branch is checked against AttributionDetails instead of being asserted past the compiler. Keeping the precedence result whole also removes the destructure the else-branch only had to rebuild. isTxClaimedByOlderQuote now asks the question its name asks - does an older claim exist - rather than finding the global oldest and comparing. The tie-break moves into the predicate and the unreachable null branch goes with the sort. Claims on one transaction can be registered out of order, so a younger one could be accepted while its older sibling had yet to arrive - and since only pending swaps are polled, nothing revisited it. Two claims on one transaction could both end up accepted. The oldest claim now settles the whole transaction rather than only itself. Sweeping before its own write means a crash leaves it pending and retrying, never doubly accepted. Also names both checks after the question each answers: resolveQuoteBinding became resolveClaimAgainstChain, since only two of its eight reasons concern precedence, and the sibling check is now hasOlderClaim. A claim younger than an existing one on the same transaction can only ever resolve disputed, so there is nothing to learn from storing it. The guard runs on quote order, never arrival order - refusing whoever registers second would hand the transaction to whoever registers first, which is the opposite of what the contest decides. Deposit-address swaps and rows without a quote time are stored as before, having nothing to order. The refusal is logged with the partner and the winning swapId so the attempt is still visible. "Claim" was invented here and sat alongside attribution, quote and swap without joining any of them. The relation these checks test already has a word in this codebase - quote-precedes-tx - so preceding/superseded reuse it rather than adding an earlier/later axis that reads ambiguously against arrival order. resolveClaimAgainstChain -> resolveAttributionFromChain assertClaimCanWin -> assertNoPrecedingQuote findOlderClaim -> findPrecedingQuote hasOlderClaim -> hasPrecedingQuote disputeYoungerClaims -> disputeSupersededQuotes duplicate-claim -> quote-superseded The reason is also more accurate: the quotes are genuinely distinct, one is simply outranked. A pre-EIP-155 transaction carries the same hash on every EVM chain, and both the contest and the sweep matched the hash alone - so two genuinely distinct swaps could contend, and the sweep could demote another chain's legitimately accepted quote. Both are now scoped the way the block time lookup already is. The superseded verdict also keeps the block time and quote time behind it, since a disputed row is the one someone has to adjudicate. …dy settled" Refusing the write threw away the whole swap record - no status polling, no notifications, no support trail - to save storing a row whose verdict was already known. Tracking every registration and settling it as superseded costs a row and keeps everything else. Description
resolveAttributionFromChainevaluates one swap at a time, so several quotes on the samesellTxHasheach precede that transaction independently — every one of them can be honest, and no timestamp distinguishes them. It answers whether a quote came before its transaction; it cannot answer whether that transaction has already been attributed.resolveAttributionnow settles that second question. Among the quotes on a transaction the earliest takes it, and the rest are recordedDISPUTEDwithreason: 'quote-superseded'— the quotes are genuinely distinct, one is simply outranked.swapId, so the winner is stable across runs rather than depending on row order.ACCEPTED; an outright rejection is the stronger finding and stands.DISPUTEDhas been declared in the schema and written by nothing until now, and the payout gate from fix(swap-service): drop the block time tolerance and gate payouts on attribution #65 already withholds it.Quotes can arrive out of order, so the earliest one settles the whole transaction rather than only itself: if a later quote was accepted before its predecessor was registered, the predecessor demotes it on resolution. Without that, two quotes on one transaction could both end
ACCEPTED, and since onlyPENDINGswaps are polled, nothing would ever revisit either. The sweep runs before the swap's own write, so a failure leaves it pending and retrying rather than leaving an incorrect accepted quote in place. The contest is scoped by chain. A pre-EIP-155 transaction carries the same hash on every EVM chain, so matching
sellTxHashalone would let unrelated swaps contend and let the sweep demote another chain's legitimately accepted quote. Both queries now filter onsellAsset.chainId, the way the block time lookup already does. Also names these checks after the question each answers, in the vocabulary the codebase already uses —
quote-precedes-txestablished "precedes" as the word for this relation:resolveQuoteBindingresolveAttributionFromChaincheckQuoteBindingresolveAttributionholdsOldestClaimhasPrecedingQuoteand names the verdict pair once as
AttributionVerdict, so theDISPUTEDbranch is checked againstAttributionDetailsinstead of asserted past the compiler. The superseded verdict keeps theblockTimeandquotedAtbehind it, since a disputed row is the one someone has to adjudicate.A write-time guard refusing superseded registrations was tried and reverted: it discarded the whole swap record — polling, notifications, verification, history — to avoid storing a row whose verdict was already known.
Testing
apps/swap-service: 103 tests. Five cover the contest — earliest accepted, later disputed, a late-arriving predecessor demoting the incumbent, a loser sweeping nothing, and an uncontested quote unaffected.sellAsset.chainIdwas verified against a live database, not only typechecked: a same-chain lookup returns the row and a wrong-chain lookup returns null.🤖 Generated with Claude Code
