Why add an arbitrary limit?

Please leave it disabled, i.e. 0.

Most of XML editors like Oxygen, Intellij, Eclipde IDE does that by default. If you dont like this behavior you can disable it by updating the setting

I see; so we are following a precedence -- good to know; but I'm not using those editors; I'm using vscode in this instance. Should vscode become intellij/eclipse/vs/...?

To me, this is not really an editor issue, but rather an XML issue: I think that, by default, formatting should be preserved in comments, (and even CDATA). For example, after adding comments to an XML doc, and formatting the doc, the types of changes that I'd expect to see include:

• indentations, including fixing tabs | spaces.
• single line elements or separate line attributes.

Side Note:
Regardless of the precedence, and easy of modification, does that behaviour make sense as a default for XML (structured) document? If it does, then why/how was 100 chosen? Why not 80, 120, or even 256? Is redhat simply copying other "popular" editors? If so, why not rename this vscode extension to more accurately reflect that, (e.g.) redhat/intellij-xml?
