What this solves

This adds a way for potential new members to learn about the community and help people determine how active the community is.

Currently, Mumble and IRC doesn't provide an easy way to do this:

  • Some people are introverted and prefer reading text rather than join calls.
  • IRC can be difficult for new members who want to learn about Linux.
  • New members may not know how to configure an IRC bouncer.
  • Members cannot always keep a client connected to log messages.

Thank you for the contribution. We definitely should advertise the Matrix room better. I had planned to add info to the website, but it looks like we only ever advertised it on the mailing list.

What you've added is enough for people who are already using Matrix. I wonder if it would be worth linking to some documentation to help people who have not yet created an account. Clicking the matrix.to link in a private browsing window requires me to go through four pages before I get to the account creation screen. I worry that a lot of users would bounce off before they get that far.

What do you think?

I didn't really consider that it took about 4 pages to reach the account creations page; that will definitely, deter new users away. Would adding to a direct link to element.io be better direction?

Since this way we reduce "Choice Paralysis" for new users and reduce mental fatigue, when they try look at multiple front end/clients for platforms such as IRC and Matrix.

We can also add more steps and documentation, I don't see any issue with adding more.
