fix(server): subagent task updates reach Claude task lists - #20985
Conversation
Subagents write to the session's shared task store, but the adapter ignored their task tools, so the composer list went stale whenever a subagent created or finished a task. Their TaskCreate results also carry no structured output, only "Task #N created successfully: ...". Apply subagent task tools to the parent turn's list, read the created id from the result text, and skip calls that failed or never ran. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
ApprovabilityVerdict: Approved at Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — This is a localized server bug fix that synchronizes existing Claude task-list projections with successful subagent operations and handles their text-only results. It includes focused coverage for successful, failed, and cancelled calls without changing schemas, defaults, deployment behavior, or static-analysis settings. You can add or adjust custom eligibility rules. Learn more. |

Taking over this one as maintainer for batch claude-03. I will preserve your commits, merge current main where needed, and run separate minimal-test, implementation, and adversarial-review passes before pushing. No merge planned. |

Claude subagents write to the session's shared task store, but their task-tool results were excluded from the parent plan. Successful subagent mutations now update the same list. Text-only TaskCreate results provide the returned task ID and subject; failed or never-executed calls leave the list unchanged.
Continues @TonybynMp4's work in #20985. Main was merged while preserving the contributor's commits. Separate test and implementation passes retained the existing focused solution after independent inspection; a review fix now rejects unsuccessful text-only TaskUpdate results using the CLI success marker. No new test case or test file was added.
Verification:
Live provider proof: Claude CLI 2.1.303 on Sonnet 5.5 ran a disposable parent/child task flow. The child listed and completed the parent task, created a child task, and the parent TaskList showed both changes. The child results were plain strings without structured tool_use_result, matching the adapter fixture. Sanitized actual CLI events. The initial Haiku attempt was rejected by the configured proxy as an unknown model before any task actions.
The adapter proof uses synthetic SDK frames, subagent registration and matched results. The real CLI check confirms provider semantics; browser rendering of the emitted T3 plan was not exercised. There is no layout change; screenshots would not prove SDK normalization. macOS, Windows, iOS, Android, Electron desktop and remote/relay connections were not tested live. Existing shared plan events serve those clients without a contract change.
