fix(acp): expose and preserve later model choices - #19754

…ions Cline advertises `provider` and then `model`, both `category: "model"`. Discovery merged both lists into one model picker, while model writes went to the first option, so picking a Cline model wrote it to `provider` and the session failed to open. Session options dropped every model-category option, so Cline's real model list could not be picked at all. The first `category: "model"` select now owns the model picker for discovery, the current model, `setModel`, and custom models (`findModelConfigOption`, the same rule as pingdotgg#19567). Every later model-category option is an ordinary session option under its own ID, so the existing option controls show Cline's model list and the existing option write sends it after the provider write. Its value is checked against the options the agent returned for that provider; a value the provider no longer offers fails the open like an unknown model instead of silently running the default model. ACP session config options describe only the session's current model, but the registry snapshot copied one session's options onto every model. The newest live session then overwrote all models until the instance restarted. Each probe and live session now records its options against its current model. The driver keeps probe observations with its probe cache, the runtime coordinator keeps live observations per instance, and both are cleared on auth loss, logout, and disposal. The provider registry no longer copies an older snapshot's options onto ACP Registry models, so polluted caches heal. …r's model With Cline's later `model` option exposed, every primary model carried the options the last session reported. After switching from `cline` to `cline-pass` and toggling only Auto-approve, the composer stored `cline`'s default model, and the strict later-model write failed the open before the prompt. This builds on the per-model option ownership cherry-picked from pingdotgg#19575: each Cline provider shows only the options a probe or session reported for it. An unseen provider dispatches no options and opens on the agent's own default; once its session reports, its own catalog and default apply, an explicit pick for it is kept, and picks stored on another provider resolve to its values. The new adapter test drives this through the discovery snapshot, the shared client option helpers, the real registry adapter against the Cline replay agent, and the runtime coordinator's live observations. After a restart only the probed Cline provider has described its options, so every other provider was listed with empty capabilities. Web dispatch normalized a saved ClinePass pick against those empty descriptors and dropped it, and the agent silently ran ClinePass's default model. ACP Registry models no session has described now have unknown (null) capabilities, apart from models observed without options. For a model whose options are unknown, the web composer sends only the options saved for that model (the composer's own pick, the thread's or project's selection for it, or its remembered options) unchanged, and the session checks a later model choice against the agent's live list. Options carried over from another model are dropped there, so a provider switch still cannot send the previous provider's default model. Mobile already keeps a selection's options for a model without capabilities. Refs pingdotgg#17072 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
A saved ClinePass model that ClinePass's described catalog no longer listed was replaced by the catalog's current model before dispatch, so the session ran a model the user never picked. ACP descriptors for later model options now carry `selectsModel`; clients keep such a saved value as is and the session accepts or rejects that exact model. Tuning options keep resolving to an offered value. The web composer now takes a model-selecting value only from the options saved for that instance and model. A draft entry counts as the user's own pick only for the draft's active instance, so falling back from a disabled provider no longer sends options carried from another Cline provider. Toggling an option such as Auto-approve stored every option's current value, including Cline's later `model` option at the agent's current default. That value then counted as a saved pick, so once Cline dropped that model from its catalog the thread, new chats seeded from sticky memory, and mobile settings or scheduled edits failed to open even though the user never chose a model. Option changes on web and mobile now go through one shared helper that stores a `selectsModel` option only when the user changes it or already saved it. Saved picks are still sent as is and checked strictly by the session; tuning options are stored as before. Refs pingdotgg#17072 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Batch #19575 is still open at afea60c, and overlapping #19567 is still open at 88c2eca. Neither is on the pinned main used for this batch. Their agents must establish the final shared model-option contract before this PR is rebuilt on it; carrying all three conflicting implementations forward would duplicate ownership of that contract. This headless Linux environment also has no authenticated Cline/native ACP installation. A human with that provider must verify a session advertising multiple model-category selectors: the dedicated picker controls the canonical first selector, later selectors remain exposed, saved later selections survive client reload/server restart and a fresh catalog, changing the primary model does not apply another model’s options, and web/mobile round trips preserve the saved values. Capture real provider transcripts and obtain maintainer approval for the resulting contract behavior. The existing mocked coverage alone does not establish those native/provider claims. |
Problem
ACP agents such as Cline advertise a provider selector followed by a separate model selector. T3 treated both as the primary model catalog and hid the later selector, which could send the wrong selection or discard a saved model choice.
Change
Use the first model selector consistently for the primary picker and expose later selectors as session options. Apply the primary selection first, then validate the exact saved model against the live catalog. Keep each primary model's options separate, preserve saved choices across restart, and prevent unrelated option changes from pinning an unchosen model default. Web, desktop and mobile share the model-selection rule.
Scope and approval
Refs #17072. This fixes a source-backed ACP compatibility defect; it does not claim to reproduce the reporter's Windows failure. The replay follows Cline 3.0.70 source rather than an authenticated recording.
Depends on #19575. Land that PR first, then rebase this branch to remove its carried commit. When reconciling overlap with #19567, retain its Grok current-model change and replay-status fix. This uses generic ACP metadata and adds no agent-specific exception. The existing 64-choice descriptor limit and older client normalization behavior remain.
Verification
Focused web, mobile, shared and native ACP replay checks cover provider switches, disabled-provider fallback, restart, catalog changes, and explicit versus unpicked model choices. Real subprocess replay verifies primary/model/prompt ordering, exact rejection of an obsolete explicit choice, and successful default-model use after an unrelated toggle. Scoped typechecks and lint passed. No live Cline account, Windows, browser or device verification was performed.
