primaryProjectScript returns a runOnSettle script as the primary action when no regular script exists, allowing the Run … control to invoke cleanup manually instead of only during settlement. Return null when no regular script is available rather than falling back to scripts[0].

Fixed in 7dd5368. primaryProjectScript now falls back to the first script that is not a settle action, and returns null when only settle actions exist. Covered in projectScripts.test.ts.

🟠 High orchestration-v2/ThreadSettlementService.ts:531
A later settle can send the cleanup command to an unrelated foreground process instead of executing it. closeIdle leaves terminals with running subprocesses open, while runForThread reuses the deterministic settle-<script id> terminal; after a failed settle or user-started command, open returns that live session and write targets the foreground process rather than a shell prompt. Use a fresh terminal id for each invocation or avoid reusing an active settle terminal.

Fixed in 7dd5368. Each settle now opens its own terminal (settle-<script id>-<random>), so a later settle never writes into an earlier settle shell that is still busy. A clean run closes its shell; a failed one stays open for a look. The runner test now asserts that two settle runs get different terminals.

A script with both runOnWorktreeCreate and runOnSettle is labeled only (setup), so the mobile menu hides that it also runs when the thread settles. Handle the combined case explicitly so both lifecycle roles are shown.

The mutually exclusive ternary at
script.runOnWorktreeCreatehides the settle role when a script has both flags. Both roles are independently supported (and the import path above can create such a script fromt3.json), so a script configured to run at setup and settle is rendered only as(setup), incorrectly omitting that it will also execute on settlement.

ApprovabilityVerdict: Not approved Macroscope's review found this PR not approvable — This PR introduces a cross-cutting, opt-in lifecycle that executes project commands in thread worktrees when they settle and manages asynchronous terminal cleanup. The workflow has meaningful filesystem and process side effects, with unresolved findings concerning terminal reuse and settle-role behavior. Not approved because:

A project action can now be marked to run on settle. When a thread in its own worktree settles, manually or automatically, the server runs that action in the worktree, so a command like `cargo clean` frees the build output of finished work. Threads in the project's main checkout skip it. The action is set from the action editor or with `runOnSettle` in t3.json, shows an "on settle" badge, and a project has at most one, like the setup action. The setup script runner now waits for the shell's prompt after its exit sentinel before closing an idle shell; closing at the sentinel read the prompt redraw as new activity and left a fast script's shell open.

Note 🤖 Claude Opus 5.5 responding on behalf of Theo Landed in #16290 (079e4bc). Your commit went in unchanged with you as author, and the squash commit credits you as co-author. On top of it we added a fix for a thread re-engaged during cleanup, a header-menu fix for settle-only projects, and the rebase onto current main. Thanks for this, @spoukyii. |
Problem
Settling marks a thread's work as finished, but a project has no way to act on that. A worktree keeps whatever its work produced or started, such as build output, caches, or tools opened for that worktree, until someone cleans it up by hand. The only automatic step on settle today is closing idle terminals, and storage cleanup skips these worktrees, because it only removes worktrees whose ignored files are
node_modules. Projects can already run an action when a worktree is created; there is no matching action for when its thread is done.Change
A project action can now be marked Run in the thread's worktree when the thread settles (
"runOnSettle": trueint3.json). It mirrors the existing setup action (runOnWorktreeCreate):runOnSettleonProjectScriptand on thet3.jsonscript schema, so older stored scripts still decode.ThreadSettlementServicealready reacts tothread.settledby closing idle shells. After that, if the thread has its own worktree on disk, it runs the project's settle action there throughProjectSetupScriptRunner(newtrigger: "settle"). Each run opens its own terminal, so it never types into an earlier settle shell that is still busy. Threads in the project's main checkout skip it, because other threads may still be working there. Manual and automatic settles both go through this event. Settling an already settled thread re-emits the event with the samesettledAt, so the action runs once per settlement; a failed start is not recorded and runs again on the next event.closeIdleread that redraw as new activity and kept the shell, which then held the worktree open. In the dev run below this happened on all 3 settles before the fix. The runner now waits for the prompt (the partial line after the sentinel, capped at 1 s for shells with an empty prompt) before closing. Setup scripts go through the same code.t3.json. Like setup, a project has one settle action. Saving one clears the flag on the others through a sharedreleaseClaimedRoleshelper, which replaces the three hand-written copies of that rule. A settle action is never picked as the primary run button.docs/user/thread-sidebar.mdunder "Settle finished work".Scope and approval
There is no prior Ideas discussion for this. I'm submitting it as a focused option on the established project-action capability: actions can already run on a lifecycle event (worktree creation), and this adds the matching event at the other end of a worktree thread's life. It reuses the existing runner, terminal, and settlement paths and changes no defaults; nothing runs unless a project opts in. If you would rather discuss the direction first, I'm happy to open an Ideas discussion and follow its outcome.
Verification
Focused tests:
vp test run src/orchestration-v2/ThreadSettlementService.test.ts src/project/ProjectSetupScriptRunner.test.ts(apps/server): 25 passed. New cases: settling runs the settle action only for a thread whose worktree exists, skipping a thread in the shared checkout and one whose worktree was removed; a re-emitted settlement runs it once; a failed start runs again on the next event;trigger: "settle"selects the settle action and gives each run its own terminal; a clean run does not close its shell at the sentinel, only after the prompt.
