Each assistant message, reasoning entry, and viewed-image work row signs its own asset URL. A later message that shows a file the agent rewrote no longer reuses the earlier URL whose bytes the browser cached.
ApprovabilityVerdict: Approved at Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — This is a focused cross-platform fix that scopes cached asset URLs by message or work entry so rewritten workspace images and media resolve to the correct bytes. The server contract and existing unscoped callers remain unchanged, with cache behavior covered by a runtime test. Notes:

Merge Risk:
Minimal · up to 234bd
-
The identified cache-identity risks do not block merging: message renderings use scoped URLs, and Save and Copy retain that scope.
Security architecture risk:
Low · up to 8f821
-
The change separates cached media identities without granting additional asset access. The inspected paths preserve environment routing and permission checks. Remaining uncertainty concerns permission changes during in-flight requests and platform-specific preview lifecycle behavior, rather than an identified security regression.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.Security review details
-
Security Blast Radius
- inferred — The demonstrated change affects client-local URL and preview state for resources in the selected environment. Scope adds cache entries but does not replace the resource selector, select another environment, or add signing privileges.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
- observed — Markdown-controlled media still reaches signing through the existing environment and resource boundary. Web workspace resources retain the thread environment, and the shared executor removes scope before crossing the RPC boundary. Direct external URL behavior is pre-existing and unchanged in the inspected diff.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
- observed — Existing mobile controls remain around asynchronous asset use: sharing checks host-media permission before and after URL refresh, prevents overlapping share requests, and aborts on unmount. File-preview resolution ignores cancelled completions and releases local attachment leases during cleanup.

Explanation
Issue [
#15676] requires later assistant content to avoid showing a stale cached workspace image. The PR adds a per-message scope for assistant Markdown and a per-work-entry scope for reasoning and viewed-image entries. Web and mobile asset hooks include the scope in the client cache identity. The client runtime test verifies separate signing requests for different scopes and reuse within one scope. The signing RPC receives only{ resource }, so the scope stays out of the RPC payload. Existing permission checks and environment routing remain unchanged. The reported web integration evidence shows the later message loading the rewritten image. The implementation does not snapshot historical bytes, but the issue permits the live-reference alternative.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
-
Explanation
The changed mobile and web files propagate the asset scope through Markdown images, videos, galleries, media actions, previews, refresh paths, and cache keys. These changes support the same stale-image fix across the affected client surfaces. The runtime regression test verifies the new cache behavior and RPC boundary. Existing unscoped behavior remains for user-authored Markdown and other surfaces identified as outside the objective. No unrelated change is demonstrated.

Taking over this one. I will integrate it with current main, retain the filesystem permission checks, and verify that later chat messages load rewritten workspace images. I will push the focused rebuild here while preserving @ishaanko’s commits. |

Main's pingdotgg#24970 keys workspace image URLs by revision, but only right-panel previews pass one, so chat messages still need their own scope. useAssetUrlState takes both as an options object; a positional third argument meant scope here and revision on main. Mobile previews moved to refreshAssetUrl (pingdotgg#25527), which now takes the scope too.

Fixes #15676.
When an agent rewrites a workspace image, a later assistant response or work entry can reuse the earlier signed URL and show cached bytes. This gives each assistant message or work entry its own client asset cache identity, including image previews and media actions on web and mobile. Scope stays out of the RPC payload, and the existing filesystem permission checks and environment routing stay in place.
Rebuilt from @ishaanko’s original contribution, preserving their commits and merging current main. Removed the duplicated asset test and redundant tool-output scopes; kept the existing work-log rendering and permission architecture.
Verification:
Before — main reuses the old image in the later message:
After — the later message shows the rewritten blue image:
Recording: overwrite, later message and expanded preview
Additional head checks:
The timeline data above is an inert client projection fixture; file bytes and asset requests are real. This does not verify provider emission or persisted timeline updates. The final main integration retains the message-scoped lookups alongside main’s new refresh behavior for Markdown file previews. Chat renderings do not pass that preview mutation token; the captured chat behavior is unchanged. All 13 current Markdown asset/permission browser cases pass. A fallback font was injected for readable headless captures.
This change covers agent-authored assistant responses, reasoning and viewed-image work entries. User-authored Markdown, plan cards, item-inspector reasoning and event-detail Markdown keep their existing shared image URL behavior. Scope partitions cache identity; it does not snapshot historical bytes. Expiry, eviction, refresh, retry, opening a media link and Save/Copy/share reauthorization may load the current file, and atomic replacement can invalidate an earlier capability. Attachments and already unique tool-output images retain their existing identities.
Not verified live: macOS, Windows, Electron desktop, iOS, Android, remote/relay/tunnel connections, native image caches/gallery/video playback, web video playback and Save/Copy/download actions. Device verification is disabled in this environment. Native visual proof remains required before calling the mobile paths ready.
