[Bug]: Reasoning effort not sent for High (default) #1447

Description

@mato-meciar

Before submitting

  • I searched existing issues and did not find a duplicate.
  • I included enough detail to reproduce or investigate the problem.

Area

apps/server

Steps to reproduce

  1. Set up Codex CLI to be used with codex-lb (or any other OpenAI type proxy)
  2. Choose High (default) reasoning effort level
  3. Resulting request is sent without reasoning effort level
  4. This results in the request being handled with Medium reasoning effort level (which is the default)

In the screenshot it can be seen that when I select other reasoning effort levels (Low, xHigh) these properly go thorugh, it's only when High was selected the request came through as Medium.

Image

Expected behavior

When the High reasoning effort is selected, instead of not sending anything explicitly send the reasoning effort level as high.

Actual behavior

A request without any reasoning effort level is sent that then defaults to medium.

Impact

Minor bug or occasional failure

Environment

macOS 26.3.1

Workaround

Not really a workaround but rather hopefully a fix for whoever would want to pick this low hanging fruit up (and is vouched).
In apps/server/src/provider/Layers/CodexProvider.ts @ line 157:
...(reasoningEffort && reasoningEffort !== defaultReasoningEffort -> ...(reasoningEffort

In apps/web/src/providerModels.ts @ line 85:
...(reasoningEffort && reasoningEffort !== defaultReasoningEffort -> ...(reasoningEffort

As a result of these changes the tests in apps/web/src/components/chat/composerProviderRegistry.test.tsx will need to be changed/updated as well:
@ line 83
modelOptionsForDispatch: undefined, -> modelOptionsForDispatch: { reasoningEffort: "high", },

@ line 130:
++ reasoningEffort: "high",

@ line 133:
it("drops explicit codex default/off overrides from dispatch while keeping the selected effort label", () => { -> it("keeps explicit codex high effort in dispatch while dropping fast mode off", () => {

@ line 150:
modelOptionsForDispatch: undefined, -> modelOptionsForDispatch: { reasoningEffort: "high", },

    Fixed in v0.0.15.
    If anything else pops up I'll then create a separate issue; closing this as resolved.
