The canonical installer has the same legacy-launchd and auto-update upgrade defects as the copy in pilotprotocol. Migrate legacy jobs before replacing binaries, retire old RunAtLoad plists, preserve operator settings, initialize missing auto-update state on upgrades, and avoid claiming an explicitly disabled updater is enabled.
Companion to pilot-protocol/pilotprotocol#482 for pilot-protocol/pilotprotocol#475 and pilot-protocol/pilotprotocol#476. The two install.sh files are byte-identical. Merge this canonical change before the core PR so its existing installer-parity gate can pass; the parity gate is deliberately unchanged.
Validation: shell syntax and the managed installer contract pass. The core PR's regression tests cover loaded/unloaded legacy jobs, abort-on-bootout-failure, upgrade initialization and preserved opt-out. Its Linux and macOS installer smoke checks also pass.
