PDFCLOUD-6746

Jira work item

Why this change

The PyPI project description does not yet describe capabilities added since 1.0.3, and the package does not declare its license. Prepare version 1.4.1 with updated onboarding and explicit Apache-2.0 licensing.

What changed (high level)

Refresh the README to describe existing structured document conversions, shape overlays, PostScript workflows, and password-protected image exports. Give uv and pip equal treatment, make repository links usable from PyPI, and move filename checks into the contributing guide.

Add the Apache 2.0 license and copyright notice, and declare both files in the package metadata so they ship with the wheel and source distribution. Bump the project and lockfile version to 1.4.1.

Behavior changes

Package metadata now reports version 1.4.1 and the Apache-2.0 license expression. Both distribution formats include LICENSE and NOTICE. This change affects documentation, licensing, and packaging metadata; it introduces no API or dependency changes.

Validation

Passed full repository pre-commit checks, including Ruff and basedpyright, and strict Twine checks for the built wheel and source distribution. Verified the packaged README, version, license metadata, and exact LICENSE/NOTICE contents.

Also verified that the release workflow's uv 0.9.18 accepts the lockfile and builds both distributions with Python 3.11. The dependency graph is unchanged.

Runtime tests, live tests, examples, and the Python 3.10–3.14 test matrix were not rerun because this diff contains no runtime implementation changes.

Risks and follow-ups

Use release tag 1.4.1 to match the updated package metadata. CI must pass before merge; no application migration is required.

- Declare Apache-2.0 and package LICENSE and NOTICE in distributions.
- Refresh README capabilities, installation commands, and public links.
- Move filename checks into CONTRIBUTING and update the lockfile to
  version 1.4.1.
