Hey, I'm Nicholas Comunale

LinkedIn · Credly · TryHackMe

I'm an IT support and security operations candidate based in Florida. I enjoy troubleshooting the point where systems, networks, and people meet—especially when I can turn a confusing problem into clear next steps.

My interest in security started for a very human reason. When I was younger, I fell for more than one social-engineering scam involving games and virtual currency. I wanted to understand how those tricks worked and how people could protect themselves. That curiosity eventually grew into hands-on work with Linux, Windows, networking, packet analysis, and security tools.

Right now, I work as a US Rater at TELUS Technology, where I follow detailed guidelines, investigate ambiguous results, document decisions, and adjust quickly when standards change. I also bring several years of customer-facing experience from Walmart and Marco's Pizza. That background taught me to stay patient, ask useful questions, and explain problems without making people feel talked down to.

What I work with

  • Systems: Windows, Windows Server labs, Linux (Arch and Ubuntu), macOS
  • Support: troubleshooting, documentation, escalation, user communication, POS and endpoint support
  • Networking: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NAT, VLANs, pfSense, Wireshark
  • Security labs: Splunk, Microsoft Sentinel, Nessus, packet triage, vulnerability research
  • Scripting: Bash and Python

Certifications and education

  • CompTIA Security+
  • CompTIA Server+
  • B.A.S. in Cyber Forensics and Information Security — Keiser University
  • Information Technology Foundations — MyComputerCareer

Featured projects

Built to practice VLAN separation, NAT, firewall rules, and troubleshooting between network segments. The goal is to show the setup and the tests—not just a final screenshot.

An educational review of DNS and ARP traffic using Wireshark, tshark, Bash, and Unbound. The project separates what the capture shows from what it cannot prove, then documents how DNS-over-TLS changes the resolver's upstream transport.

What I'm looking for

I'm targeting IT support, help desk, desktop support, NOC, and entry-level security operations roles in Southwest Florida or in a suitable hybrid environment. I'm especially interested in teams that value careful troubleshooting, useful documentation, and people who are willing to keep learning.
