Test Environment vs. Production Environment
For the purposes of developmental ease and security, mod.io offers two entirely separate server environments.
The test environment is located at test.mod.io and has a corresponding API accessible via api.test.mod.io. On the test environment, each game profile is hidden from public view and only accessible by accounts marked as developers of that game and by calls made to the API using the corresponding game API Key. This facilitates development in a controlled, private sandbox with enhanced debugging functionality to prepare and test integration before moving to the production environment. Both the test environment and the production environment have privacy and visibility controls that allow a game/mod profile to be hidden, however the settings of the test environment implement these controls in such a way that a game profile can never be truly public.
The production environment is located at mod.io and has a corresponding API accessible via api.mod.io. Publishing to the production environment is recommended once the integration of mod.io has been tested in-game or in-app and is ready for public consumption, as the security features of the test environment restrict the visibility of mods and games and the extra debugging measures which are not suitable for mass-consumption. The production servers are optimized for speed of delivery and ease of access to ensure seamless and smooth integration with your game.
Please note that the Game ID and the Game API Key assigned to a game profile on the production environment will differ from the one on the test environment, as the games, users, and mods on the test environment and the production environment are unique and not linked in any way to the test environment. This means that it is necessary to update your Plugin Settings before shipping a build for public release. Game profiles created in both environments are hidden by default, and although a profile can be made visible on the test environment, only profiles in the production environment are able to be viewed publicly.
