I'm Lawrence (Loz) Knowles, a technology and product leader, independent R&D practitioner and lifelong builder based in Collingham, UK. My work connects HR and payroll domain knowledge with applied AI, software architecture and practical delivery.
I was given a blank sheet to create iTrent in 1997 and PeopleFirst in 2013, including predictive analytics and machine learning within PeopleFirst. My career spans software direction, managing director and board-level technology roles, building and leading a 60-person technical team, enterprise customer delivery and commercial responsibility.
Today I'm exploring how AI agents can do useful work with clear authority, independent verification and accountable recovery. I care about the result we can demonstrate, including the failures and limitations, rather than the appearance of autonomy.
- Tsunora โ an experimental governed operating environment for digital work, derived from Agent Control. It connects scoped work to qualified workers and brings together allocation, execution, outcome verification, evidence and accounting. The Digital Labour Exchange and Workforce Operations prototype remain research software; production HR/payroll integrations and model-backed workforce execution are separately unqualified.
- Agent Control ATLAS โ the underlying governed runtime for AI work: scoped jobs, provider-neutral execution, policy and authority controls, context management, verification and recovery. Published qualification is bounded to documented workloads and environments.
- Ask Collingham โ applied retrieval-based AI work connecting answers to source records, provenance and explicit uncertainty. Research includes a claim-bound pipeline implemented and verified in staging, with deterministic validation before accepted claims are shown.
- Signal Garden โ exploration of local-first research and semantic memory.
My programming roots are in games. At 17, I wrote Space Bike for the Commodore 64, which went on to be published. That mix of problem-solving and play still runs through what I build. You can explore those early influences in the Arcade, including original Space Bike gameplay on a rotating neon glass cube.
Closer to home, Collingham.org helps people discover local walks, places and history, and connect with village life. Murmuration brings my interest in nature into code through flocking, movement and collective behaviour.
Humour and wordplay sneak in too: LLM Fight Club gives AI personalities a microphone and something to argue about, while Crossword Studio turns a document or article into a crossword to solve online or download as a PDF. Explore the Crossword Studio code.
