Summary

Removes ~30 single-use "fake" is-style block-style variants cluttering the editor's style picker, folding each into its one consumer pattern as inline block attributes or scoped structural SCSS, across 5 work groups.

Group 1 — Delete confirmed-dead variants

  • Deleted 6 is-style variants with 0 consumers found anywhere in patterns

Group 2 — Fold section/card styles

  • Folded single-use section/card is-style variants into their one consumer pattern as inline block attributes

Group 3 — Fold footer/misc styles

  • Folded single-use footer and miscellaneous is-style variants into their consumer patterns

Group 4 — Badge/banner-tint to plain classes

  • Converted the WooCommerce taxonomy-driven badge/banner-tint is-style swaps to plain classes, since they're programmatically toggled rather than editor-chosen

Group 5 — Final wrap-up

  • Deleted the last 5 single-use is-style JSON files (button-cta-gradient, glass-button, cta-inline-card, footer-notes-panel, work-hero) and folded each into its consumer pattern
  • Added structural/_buttons.scss and structural/_hero.scss for rest-state rules with no block-supports equivalent; moved hover/motion-only rules into the existing animations/*-motion.scss partials and _shared-hover.scss
  • Kept mega-menu-panel-services as a registered is-style — confirmed multi-consumer, not single-use
  • Fixed a duplicate arrow icon on the header CTA and glass buttons: renaming their classes from is-style-* to plain ls-* classes had silently broken _button-motion.scss's default-fill-button detector, so they inherited the default button's own arrow ::after on top of their own
  • Fixed the header CTA button's text contrast using the existing button.fill.text semantic token (swaps base/contrast between light and dark) instead of a fixed value, so it stays legible in both modes
  • CHANGELOG.md updated for this PR

Deliberately untouched

Multi-use is-style variants (content-band, card-feature, glass-card, icon-well-*, link-arrow-accent, stat-segment, card-link-row, tick-accent, button-secondary*, button-arrow-compact, mega-menu-item-*, card-icon-shell, mega-menu-panel-services) — all confirmed genuinely shared across multiple patterns, so they correctly remain registered style variants.

Test plan

  • npm run build:css compiles clean, verified live-served CSS matches compiled output
  • php -l on every changed pattern file
  • Manual browser verification of every folded component — no visual/behavioral regression
  • Swept for dangling is-style-* references to the deleted JSON files — none found
  • Header CTA button verified in both light and dark mode after the contrast-token fix
  • validate_blocks used to confirm serialization validity before applying pattern edits

Closes LS-2341.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added refreshed styling for cards, CTA buttons, work project cards, archive sections, heroes, taxonomy filters, and FAQ accordions.
    • Introduced reusable Glass Card, icon shell, and CTA treatments with improved hover and focus states.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Corrected WooCommerce project card colors and badge styling.
    • Improved responsive layouts and spacing across work and homepage sections.
  • Accessibility
    • Added reduced-motion support and clearer keyboard focus states across interactive elements.
  • Chores
    • Removed outdated, single-use style options and consolidated styling for a more consistent editor experience.

Deleted JSON files (0 consumers each)
- styles/blocks/buttons/button-glow-accent.json
- styles/blocks/paragraphs/link-underline-accent.json
- styles/blocks/headings/gradient-accent.json
- styles/sections/cards/card-solutions-accent.json
- styles/sections/cards/card-spotlight.json
- styles/blocks/groups/header-icon-button.json

Corresponding SCSS removed
- _link-motion.scss, _button-motion.scss, _header-motion.scss — dead
  blocks removed
- _text-motion.scss — deleted entirely (was 100% the dead
  gradient-accent block)
- gsap/_card-spotlight.scss — deleted entirely

PHP registrations removed
- inc/animations.php — card-solutions-accent register_block_style()
- inc/gsap.php — card-spotlight register_block_style() + its entry in
  the GSAP-detection array

Cleanup found along the way
- Removed 4 dangling .is-style-card-solutions-accent selector branches
left in Button Arrow Compact's hover rules
- Fixed 2 stale doc comments referencing the now-deleted
  header-icon-button.json and is-style-link-underline-accent

Verified untouched
- ls-accent-gradient-shift keyframe — still used by Card Services,
  confirmed not dead
…p 2)

Group 2 — Style consolidation
- Fold 10 single-use styles/sections/cards/*.json files into their one
consumer as real inline block attributes, or scoped plain-classname
SCSS where block-supports can't express the rule
- Rename is-style-x to ls-x across: card-checklist, card-chip,
  card-case-study, card-divider-top, card-divider-bottom, card-list-shell,
  card-category, card-divider-both, card-services, card-solutions
- Update all consumer patterns with the ported inline attrs and renamed
  classNames
- Coordinate the card-services/card-solutions rename across their
  cross-file hover dependencies in _link-motion.scss and _button-motion.scss
- Remove the now-unneeded register_block_style() entries for
  card-category/card-solutions in inc/animations.php
- Delete all 10 folded-in JSON files

Bug fixes (pre-existing, unrelated to this phase)
- Fix a wp:list block in work-discuss-project-list.php whose className
duplicated the block's own auto-added base class, causing a permanent
editor validation error on the Work Discuss Project CTA
- Remove hand-authored spacing styles on a core/query and a core/columns
block that neither the block nor the theme's settings.spacing actually
support — WordPress silently dropped them on regeneration, causing a
permanent validation mismatch (no visual change, since they were
  already non-functional)
- Fix the ls-plugin/taxonomy-filter block being inserted as a self-closing
void block when its save() actually returns a wrapper div, causing a
validation error on the Selected Projects section
Group 3 — Style consolidation
- Fold 6 single-use style files into their one consumer as real inline
block attributes or scoped plain-classname SCSS: footer-proof-card,
  footer-social-icon, footer-nav-link, tag-pills, icon-frame-glow,
  home-hero-section
- Rename is-style-x to ls-x / plain classnames across all 6, and update
every consumer occurrence in patterns/footer.php, section-card-solutions.php,
  work-project-card.php, and home-hero.php
- Remove register_block_style() entries for icon-frame-glow/home-hero-section
and repoint the GSAP-detection classname string in inc/gsap.php
- Delete the 6 folded-in JSON files, plus 2 confirmed dead files:
  shadow-heading-contrast, shadow-heading-base

Bug fixes
- Fix assets/js/gsap-effects.js still querying the old classname to find
the hero section, which broke GSAP hero initialization after the rename
- Fix inline-style-vs-:hover specificity: rest-state border-color/
box-shadow/background-color now render inline (from folding into block
attrs), which no stylesheet hover rule can beat without !important —
  added it on .ls-card-category, .ls-card-services, .ls-card-solutions,
  .ls-card-case-study, .ls-footer-proof-card, .ls-footer-social-icon
- Fix ls-plugin/taxonomy-filter being inserted as a self-closing void
block when its save() returns a wrapper div

Architecture
- Move all non-motion CSS out of src/scss/animations/** and
  src/scss/gsap/** into a new src/scss/structural/ directory, per
  AGENTS.md's motion-files-are-motion-only rule (violated by this group's
and Group 2's folded cards/footer/hero content)
…oup 4)

Group 4 — Style consolidation
- Convert badge-brand/badge-woocommerce and card-banner-tint/
card-banner-tint-woocommerce from registered is-style variations into
plain conditional classes — these were a programmatic WooCommerce-taxonomy
swap, not a real editorial choice, and shouldn't appear in the style picker
- Move their CSS into src/scss/structural/_cards.scss as plain class rules
  (ls-badge-brand/-woocommerce, ls-card-banner-tint/-woocommerce), reusing
  the existing card.platform.wordpress/woocommerce tokens
- Update inc/portfolio-card-colors.php's className swap to the new plain
strings; simplify its doc comment now that there's no is-style
  CSS-generation timing to race against
- Update patterns/cards/work-project-card.php's classNames to match
- Delete the 4 converted JSON files

Bug fixes
- Add a matching platform-conditional treatment for the "Platform · X" tag
overlaid on the banner grid (ls-platform-tag-brand/-woocommerce) — it was
previously a static, non-conditional colour, inconsistent with the badge
  and grid beside it
- Fix the WooCommerce swap not applying to the banner/tag classes (only the
badge worked): switched the swap from render_block_data (attrs, pre-render)
to render_block (rendered HTML, post-render) — confirmed empirically that
get_the_ID()/post context wasn't reliable for these core/group blocks at
the render_block_data stage inside a Post Template loop, but is reliable
once inner content has already rendered
- Fix a visible gap around the banner grid: WordPress core's default
  `.wp-block-group.has-background { padding: 1.25em 2.375em }` was applying
to the card article (untouched until now), inset-ing everything inside it.
Fixed as a real block attribute (spacing.padding: 0 on the article), not a
CSS override, per AGENTS.md's JSON/block-attributes-first rule
…up 5)

Removed is-styles
- Delete button-cta-gradient, glass-button, cta-inline-card,
  footer-notes-panel, work-hero JSON style variants
- Fold each into inline block attributes / scoped SCSS on its
  single consumer pattern

Structural CSS
- Add structural/_buttons.scss and structural/_hero.scss for
rest-state rules with no block-supports equivalent
- Move hover/motion-only rules for buttons, cards, footer,
  header into animations/*-motion.scss and shared-hover.scss
- Wire new structural partials into animations.scss entry file

Bug fixes
- Fix duplicate arrow icon on ls-glass-button/ls-button-cta-gradient
by excluding them from the default-fill button's arrow ::after
  selector in _button-motion.scss
- Fix header CTA button text color using button.fill.text token
so it swaps light/dark automatically instead of a fixed value

Patterns updated
- work-project-card, section-cta-consultation-inline,
  section-cta-consultation-strip, footer, header, work-hero

Context
- CHANGELOG.md updated for this PR
- Rebuilt assets/css/animations.css from SCSS

Walkthrough

The change moves reusable styling from many block-style definitions into component styles, semantic classes, and pattern attributes. It adds separate CSS bundles and editor loading, updates motion and GSAP integration, and changes WooCommerce card-color processing to filter rendered HTML.

Changes

Style consolidation and runtime migration

Layer / File(s) Summary
Pattern contracts and style definitions
patterns/..., styles/sections/..., theme.json
Patterns use explicit attributes and semantic classes. Remaining style definitions document structural CSS ownership. Block-gap support is enabled.
Component stylesheet bundle and loading
assets/css/..., src/scss/structural/..., inc/animations.php, functions.php, package.json
New bundles provide card, CTA, FAQ, hero, taxonomy, archive, and project-card styling. Build, front-end, and editor loading include these bundles.
Global motion and structural selectors
assets/css/animations.css, src/scss/animations/...
Motion selectors use semantic classes. Footer and CTA structural rules move into dedicated styling. Reduced-motion rules cover the migrated selectors.
GSAP and rendered card integration
assets/js/gsap-effects.js, inc/gsap.php, inc/portfolio-card-colors.php, CHANGELOG.md
GSAP initializes the home hero only. GSAP stylesheet registration is removed. WooCommerce classes are replaced in rendered block HTML. The changelog records the migration.

Estimated code review effort: 4 (Complex) | ~45 minutes

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to ce726

The PR removes single-use style variants and moves their styling into pattern classes and structural or animation SCSS, but it is not yet merge-ready because changed files still have required header-check failures, keyboard-inaccessible social-icon groups, a closed FAQ layout issue, motion-boundary violations, and a header CTA hover style that does not take effect.

src/scss/structural/_cards.scss:415

  • This WooCommerce grid repeats the same hard-coded white UI colour, bypassing the semantic colour-token layer. Use the semantic surface highlight token so the grid follows the active style variation.
    src/scss/structural/_cards.scss:341
  • The conditional class swap only requires the platform colours to stay in CSS. Border radius, padding and typography are static supported properties (and were structured JSON before), so keeping them here contradicts the theme-first/block-supports contract. Put those values on the core/post-terms block and retain only unsupported layout/descendant rules and conditional colours in Sass.
    src/scss/animations/_shared-hover.scss:73
  • Renaming the Glass Button selector leaves its static backdrop-filter treatment in an animations/** partial, which is restricted to motion declarations. Move this @supports rule to structural CSS (shared by the button and retained Glass Card style) rather than keeping a non-motion exception here.

Delete the stale WooCommerce lockstep comment block.

The block documents card-banner-tint*.json and badge-*.json as the authoring location. This PR deletes those files and moves the rules to plain classes in the structural layer. The comment now points readers to files that do not exist and contains no code.

Extract the default-fill selector list into one Sass variable.

The same :is(...) selector with the two :not() exclusions is repeated seven times. Each future plain-class fold-in requires seven identical edits, and any missed edit reintroduces the duplicate-arrow bug the comment at Lines 44-50 describes. Store the selector once and interpolate it.

Move the footer nav-link hover swap out of this motion file.

Lines 127-128 declare color and text-decoration-color. Neither is @keyframes, transition, transform, animation, or will-change. This PR moved the equivalent .ls-footer-proof-card and .ls-footer-social-icon hover swap into src/scss/structural/_footer.scss for exactly this reason, and the comment at Lines 132-137 records that decision. Apply the same treatment here and keep only the transition at Lines 120-123.

As per coding guidelines, "Motion/animation files (src/scss/animations/**, src/scss/gsap/**) may contain only @keyframes, transition, transform, animation, and will-change rules, plus their prefers-reduced-motion companions."

Consider suppressing the CTA lift transform under reduced motion.

Line 117 disables the transition. The translateY(-1px) hover transform at Line 68 still applies, so the movement becomes instant rather than absent. The glass button block at src/scss/animations/_button-motion.scss Lines 362-366 adds transform: none for the same case. Add the matching rule for consistency.

Regressions from the fold-in
- Restore ls-card-divider-both's flex-stretch layout rule (dropped when
the is-style was folded, broke equal-height stat dividers)
- Restore ls-footer-social-icon's min-inline-size:44px (core/group has
no width counterpart to minHeight, icon shells could go non-square)
- Move ls-footer-nav-link's hover colour swap out of the motion-only
partial into structural, matching this phase's own established split

Theme-first / token compliance
- Move icon-frame-glow and badge-brand/woocommerce's static
border/padding into real block attributes on their consumers
(core/group and core/post-terms both support them, values don't vary)
- Replace hardcoded rgba(255,255,255,0.05) grid lines with the
  surface.highlight semantic token

Bug fixes
- Fix reduced-motion selector specificity so Card - Solutions' heading
  colour transition actually gets suppressed
- Fix home hero mobile overrides losing to rest-state due to lower
  selector specificity
- Add !important to glass-button's hover state so it isn't silently
beaten by the consumer's inline rest-state style attribute

Dead code cleanup
- Remove the dead Card Spotlight JS path (initSpotlightCard and its
now-unused helpers) and its stale usage doc; the is-style itself was
  already deleted in Group 1
- Stop enqueueing the now comment-only gsap-animations.css stylesheet

Docs
- Correct two stale CHANGELOG entries: the WooCommerce swap's actual
  hook (render_block, not render_block_data), and the untouched-styles
claim (several button/heading/link families were folded, not left alone)

Cosmetic
- Minor Stylelint spacing/currentcolor nits in the new structural partials

Suppressed comments (3)

src/scss/structural/_footer.scss:10

  • This comment now points the hover swap at _footer-motion.scss, but the swap is implemented immediately below in this structural partial; only the transition remains in _footer-motion.scss. Update the location so future changes do not target the wrong file.
    src/scss/animations/_footer-motion.scss:130
  • This says the complete hover/transition contract lives in _shared-hover.scss, but this PR moved the colour swap to structural/_footer.scss; _shared-hover.scss now contains only the shared transition. Correct the split described here.
 * Proof-point card (.ls-footer-proof-card) and social icon circle (.ls-footer-social-icon): both
 * folded in from styles/blocks/groups/*.json (LS-2341) as inline block attributes on
 * patterns/footer.php. Their hover/transition contract lives in _shared-hover.scss — shared
 * byte-for-byte with the header search button and the mobile-menu close button. WordPress doesn't
 * generate :hover/:focus CSS for arbitrary block style variations, so it stays real CSS there.

CHANGELOG.md:21

  • The next two historical bullets are now inconsistent with this update: they still claim computed values are kept out of patterns and refer to the removed is-style-card-case-study class. Update the whole entry to describe the post-LS-2341 locations and class name accurately.
  - Matching section/block styles for rendering dynamically-bound taxonomy terms as a badge bar and individual tag pills, and for the card/divider/checklist shells (all since folded into their consumer patterns or converted to plain classes by LS-2341 — see Removed below).
  - Colour, computed values (background tints, borders) are kept out of pattern-level block attributes and defined only in these external style files — WordPress's block validator can't reliably round-trip a raw `color-mix()` value placed directly in a block's own `style` attribute.
  - Added hover-lift behaviour for the two interactive cards (`is-style-card-case-study`, `is-style-card-link-row`) to `assets/css/animations.css`, reusing the existing `card.hover` shadow contract, and extended the `is-style-link-arrow-accent` style/CSS to also support `core/read-more` (previously `core/paragraph` only).

Reviewed the 3 suppressed comments from this Copilot review — all 3 valid, all stale comment/doc drift from my own previous round of fixes (moved logic around, didn't update every comment pointing at it). Fixed:

  • _footer.scss:10 — corrected to say the hover colour swap lives here, not in _footer-motion.scss
  • _footer-motion.scss:130 — corrected to say the hover colour swap for proof-card/social-icon lives in structural/_footer.scss, only the shared transition timing is in _shared-hover.scss
  • CHANGELOG.md:21 — updated the historical LS-1616/1617 entry to reflect is-style-card-case-study's rename to .ls-card-case-study and that some computed values later moved into pattern block attributes per LS-2341's theme-first rule

Comment-only changes, no CSS rules affected — confirmed the compiled animations.css diff is comment-only.

Comment fixes
- _footer.scss: footer-nav-link's comment said the hover colour swap
lives in _footer-motion.scss; it was moved here in the last commit,
  only the transition stayed there
- _footer-motion.scss: proof-card/social-icon's comment said the full
hover/transition contract lives in _shared-hover.scss; the colour
swap itself lives in structural/_footer.scss, only the shared
  transition timing is in _shared-hover.scss

Docs
- CHANGELOG.md: updated the historical LS-1616/1617 entry — renamed
is-style-card-case-study to .ls-card-case-study, and clarified that
static values with a block-supports equivalent later moved into
pattern block attributes per LS-2341's theme-first rule

No rule changes — compiled animations.css diff is comment-only.

Hey @brandonmarshal , let's chat about this. I think it's gone too far the other way, but I need to make sure. I'll arrange on slack

…kers (LS-2614)

Audit findings (LS-2614)
- Confirmed all is-style deletions/folds on this branch were correct
(genuinely unused at removal time, or verified working plain-class
  conversions)
- Flagged 5 full-card shells wrongly folded into plain SCSS classes
instead of keeping their own JSON style
- Flagged 4 internal icon-well/icon-shell styles wrongly registered as
  selectable block-editor Styles

Card style restoration
- Added JSON block styles for Card - Category, List Shell, Case Study,
  Solutions, and Services
- Full rest-state look (border, shadow, layout, hover custom
properties, Services' accent-gradient bar) now lives entirely in
each card's JSON style, matching the existing Card - Feature /
  Glass Card convention
- Removed the permanent ls-card-* classes and duplicate inline style
attributes that made the style picker a no-op

Icon well cleanup
- Removed icon-well-accent/brand/commerce and card-icon-shell as
  selectable styles
- Inlined them as plain SCSS-backed classes across their 5 consumer
  patterns

Motion fixes
- Retargeted _card-motion.scss, _button-motion.scss, and
_link-motion.scss from the old permanent card classes to the new
  is-style-card-* classes so hover/lift/accent-gradient animations
  keep working
- Rebuilt assets/css/animations.css from the updated SCSS

Comment thread styles/sections/cards/card-case-study.json Outdated
…2615)

Problem
- animations.css must only contain genuinely global, sitewide styling per AGENTS.md
- Card, button, hero, and FAQ styles were split into 5 separate SCSS/CSS bundles with per-file PHP conditions to decide what loads where
- That required a content-sniffing PHP function scanning post_content for class-name markers, which is fragile and already produced stale-path bugs

Solution
- Merge cards, button variants, home hero, work hero, and FAQ SCSS into one src/scss/components.scss, compiled to assets/css/components.css
- Load components.css unconditionally (front + editor), same pattern as animations.css
- Remove the per-file conditional enqueue logic and the content-marker-detection helper from inc/animations.php
- Collapse functions.php editor-style registration and package.json build/watch targets down to one components entry

Bug fixes
- Removed a dead wp_enqueue_style() call and its footer-print safety net for the old assets/css/faq.css, which no longer exists after the merge (FAQ styles now ship via components.css)
- Corrected stale src/scss/structural/_cards.scss references in inc/portfolio-card-colors.php and styles/sections/cards/card-list-shell.json to point at components.scss
- Updated all six card style JSON descriptions to reference components.scss instead of the removed cards.scss/structural/_cards.scss paths

Verification
- npm run lint:json and npm run build:css pass clean
- Rebuilt CSS diffed byte-identical against the pre-merge output (banner comments aside)
- Repo-wide grep confirms no remaining references to the removed files or handles

The CTA hover shadow cannot win against the inline rest-state shadow.

patterns/header.php serializes the rest-state shadow into the element's style attribute on the same .wp-block-button__link element:

style="...box-shadow:var(--wp--preset--shadow--interactive-accent);..."

An inline style always beats a stylesheet rule, regardless of specificity. The hover and focus-visible shadow therefore never applies. This is the same constraint that was already resolved for the glass button hover state with !important.

Name the new component bundle in this rule.

The rule requires page or pattern styling to live in its own dedicated file. This PR creates that file: src/scss/components.scss, compiled to assets/css/components.css and loaded sitewide through inc/animations.php. Name it here so agents place new page-specific styles in the correct file instead of creating another bundle.

📝 Proposed addition
 - `assets/css/animations.css` (and the SCSS it's compiled from) may only contain
genuinely **global** styling — content that loads sitewide through the header or
footer template parts (including anything nested in them, e.g. the mobile menu or
mega menus). Styling tied to a specific page or pattern does not belong there, no
matter how small, and must live in its own dedicated file instead.
+- Page- and pattern-specific component styling belongs in `src/scss/components.scss`,
+ compiled to `assets/css/components.css` by `npm run build:css` and loaded through
+ `inc/animations.php`.

Use a semantic colour token for the filter button border.

…LS-2615)

Bug
- The header search button showed no themed background in either mode, falling back to the browser's native button chrome
- Root cause: the button's background was set via the wp:search block's inline JSON style attribute, using color-mix()
- WordPress's safecss_filter_attr() only allows var()/calc()/min()/max()/minmax()/clamp()/repeat() as safe CSS functions in inline block styles — color-mix() isn't on that list, so the entire background-color declaration was silently stripped before render, regardless of which token it referenced

Fix
- Removed the background from the wp:search block's inline style in patterns/header.php
- Added the same rule as real compiled CSS in src/scss/animations/_header-motion.scss, which isn't subject to inline-style sanitization
- Swapped the mobile-menu close button's equivalent rest-state background in _mobile-menu-motion.scss from surface.highlight (a token intentionally fixed across light/dark for glass-shine effects elsewhere) to surface.card, so it now steps consistently into its own surface.card-raised hover state in both modes

Verification
- npm run build:css rebuilt clean; compiled output confirmed to contain the background-color rule
- php -l passes on patterns/header.php
- Visually confirmed fixed in both light and dark mode

  • The three folded proof cards now rely on spacing.blockGap, but block-gap support is disabled and the saved markup contains no gap declaration. Their former style variation supplied spacing-5, so the number/label spacing regresses. Add the gap to the shared .ls-footer-proof-card CSS rule instead.

  • The folded spacing.blockGap is inert because this theme does not enable block-gap support; the paired saved <div> has no gap declaration. Deleting footer-notes-panel.json therefore drops the explicit spacing-10 gap. Preserve this value in scoped CSS (or enable block-gap support) rather than relying on this attribute.

CHANGELOG.md:21

  • This changelog claim is inaccurate: the pattern and retained JSON style still use is-style-card-case-study; only its descendant banner classes were renamed. Correcting this avoids documenting a migration that did not occur.
  - Added hover-lift behaviour for the two interactive cards (`.ls-card-case-study` — renamed from `is-style-card-case-study` by LS-2341 — and `is-style-card-link-row`, still a registered multi-consumer style) to `assets/css/animations.css`, reusing the existing `card.hover` shadow contract, and extended the `is-style-link-arrow-accent` style/CSS to also support `core/read-more` (previously `core/paragraph` only).

src/scss/gsap-animations.scss:3

  • The referenced destination does not exist; the home-hero rules now live in src/scss/components.scss. Update this source comment so future maintenance does not point to a deleted/non-existent partial.
    patterns/thank-you-consultation.php:125
  • The PR description explicitly lists card-icon-shell as a deliberately untouched multi-consumer style, but this change removes its is-style-* class from all consumers and deletes its JSON variation. Either retain that registered style as described or update the PR rationale to explain why this shared component is intentionally being converted.

Bug fix
- Enable settings.spacing.blockGap in theme.json — WordPress's own default is null, and isset(null) is false, so blockGap support was off theme-wide and every pattern's style.spacing.blockGap attribute was being silently ignored, not just the ones already noticed

Token policy
- src/scss/components.scss: replaced a direct palette reference (var(--wp--preset--color--neutral-200)) on the taxonomy filter border with the semantic var(--wp--custom--color--border--card) token

Documentation drift
- src/scss/gsap-animations.scss: corrected a comment pointing at the deleted structural/_home-hero-section.scss to reference src/scss/components.scss instead
- CHANGELOG.md: corrected a false claim that is-style-card-case-study was renamed to .ls-card-case-study — the root class is unchanged, only its descendant elements picked up new BEM classes

Verification
- npm run build:css and npm run lint:json pass clean
Problem
- components.scss had become another large, unconditionally-loaded bundle mixing cards, buttons, badges, and both heroes into one file
- Per senior review: browsers load the whole bundle even on pages where most of it is unused

Solution
- Deleted src/scss/components.scss and assets/css/components.css
- Split into 8 files under src/scss/structural/, each its own compile target with its own CSS output: taxonomy-filter, work-project-card, work-archive-sections, card-shells, cta-buttons, home-hero, work-hero, faq
- Grouped by actual usage context, not block type: e.g. Work-archive-only content is separated from multi-page insertable patterns (Card Feature/Services/Solutions, CTA patterns, FAQ)
- Updated package.json build:css/watch:css, functions.php editor styles, and inc/animations.php's effect registry to the new 8-file set, still loaded unconditionally for now
- Documented the template-bound vs. insertable-pattern distinction in inc/animations.php as groundwork for a future conditional-loading pass

Doc fixes
- Corrected stale components.scss path references in inc/portfolio-card-colors.php, gsap-animations.scss, and 7 card style JSON files
- Fixed card-list-shell.json's description, which falsely claimed its CSS lived in an external file when it was actually already in its own css field

Verification
- Parsed old and new compiled CSS into selector/declaration pairs and compared as sets: all 450 pairs preserved, zero missing, zero extra
- npm run build:css, npm run lint:json, and php -l pass clean

Move static styling out of the animation partial.

background-color is structural styling, not motion styling. Move the close-button base styling to src/scss/structural/_buttons.scss and keep animation partials limited to motion-related properties.

As per coding guidelines, motion/animation files may contain only @keyframes, transition, transform, animation, will-change, and prefers-reduced-motion rules.

Pull request overview

Copilot reviewed 98 out of 98 changed files in this pull request and generated no new comments.

Suppressed comments (4)

patterns/sections/work-discuss-project.php:23

  • Enabling settings.spacing.blockGap in this PR makes the removed 60-token Columns gap valid and serialisable. Dropping it here now changes the section layout to the core default; restore the supported spacing.blockGap attribute and its generated style.
    inc/animations.php:60
  • These entries are all enqueued by ls_theme_enqueue_frontend_effect_styles() on every front-end request, so this split adds eight stylesheet requests even on pages that use none of the components. The comments already identify safe conditions for the four Work-archive bundles and Home Hero; apply those conditions now (or keep them bundled until conditional loading exists) rather than shipping the acknowledged performance regression.
		'taxonomy-filter'       => array(
			'handle'   => 'ls-theme-taxonomy-filter',
			'path'     => 'assets/css/taxonomy-filter.css',
'contexts' => array( 'front', 'editor' ),

CHANGELOG.md:107

  • This entry says multi-consumer icon-well variants remain registered, but this PR deletes all three icon-well JSON files and converts their consumers to ls-icon-well-* classes. Align the changelog (and PR description’s deliberately-untouched list) with the implemented removal, or restore those registered variants.
- Removed ~30 single-use "fake" `is-style` block-style variants that cluttered the block editor's style picker with options that were never a real second editorial choice (LS-2341): folded each into its one consumer pattern as real inline block attributes, or as scoped plain-classname CSS under the new `src/scss/structural/` directory where JSON block-supports genuinely can't express the rule (nested selectors, custom-property recipes, layered gradients). Converted `badge-brand`/`badge-woocommerce` and `card-banner-tint`/`card-banner-tint-woocommerce` from registered is-styles into plain classes swapped programmatically by `inc/portfolio-card-colors.php`, since they were a taxonomy-driven state flag, not an editorial choice. Deleted 6 fully dead, zero-consumer style files found during the audit, plus the single-use button (`button-cta-gradient`, `glass-button`, `button-glow-accent`), heading (`gradient-accent`, `shadow-heading-base`, `shadow-heading-contrast`), and paragraph/link (`footer-nav-link`, `link-underline-accent`) variants found in those same families. Left only the genuinely multi-consumer variants within icon-well, buttons, headings, and paragraph/link (e.g. `link-arrow-accent`, `button-arrow-compact`, `button-secondary`) registered as-is.

inc/animations.php:156

  • The new bundle is assets/css/faq.css; there is no components.css in this loading path. Naming the actual stylesheet keeps this enqueue documentation accurate.
 * the current post's content). The FAQ's CSS ships unconditionally via components.css instead of
 * being enqueued here, since it's already loaded on every page.

Looks good @brandonmarshal . Well done on getting through that cleanup

…s (LS-2615, PR #24)

Bug fixes
- Restored the intended spacing-60 blockGap on the Work archive's discuss-project columns
- Moved .ls-card__icon-shell's static padding onto its 5 consumer instances as inline block attributes (border stays in SCSS — its colour is computed via color-mix())
- Filed LS-2640 for the footer social-icon accessibility gap (CodeRabbit finding, confirmed pre-existing, not a regression)
- Removed the stray unrecognized "version" key from .coderabbit.yml

Architecture: motion-only discipline in animations/**
- Moved Button Secondary's hover colour swap and the mobile-menu close button's structural chrome out of their respective animations/** motion partials, per AGENTS.md's motion-only rule for that directory

Architecture: animations.css scope correction
- Pulled Button Secondary and Link Arrow Accent out of the global animations.css bundle entirely — both are used in ordinary content patterns (a Work archive CTA, several card styles) in addition to sitewide chrome, so neither qualifies for the header/footer-only exception
- Each gets its own standalone bundle (button-secondary.scss, links.scss), following the same pattern as the theme's other 8 structural bundles
- Left mega-menu/mobile-menu content in animations.css — confirmed genuinely sitewide, nested only in the header

Housekeeping
- Removed playwright-report/ and test-results/, stray Playwright output left over from a branch switch; confirmed the underlying tests are already tracked on feature/ls-2335-set-up-playwright-testing-and-write-generic-assertion, whose own .gitignore excludes both directories by design

Verification
- npm run build:css, npm run lint:json, and php -l pass clean on every touched file
- Confirmed zero remaining references to deleted/moved files across the repo
- Confirmed no enqueue handle collisions
