Add basic installable PWA to apps/web (iOS)

Destination

Ship a basic installable PWA for apps/web so T3 Code can be added to an iPhone home screen with an app-like icon, standalone display — no App Store or EAS credentials needed. Complements (does not replace) the native apps/mobile Expo app.

Notes

• Executes inline — tickets are build tasks, not pure planning.
• apps/web already has apple-touch-icon.png, favicon set, and dark/light theme-color meta tags in index.html.
• No PWA scaffolding exists yet: no manifest.json, no service worker, no vite-plugin-pwa dependency.
• Work happening on branch feature/pwa-web-app.

Decisions so far

• Service worker: vite-plugin-pwa (Workbox-based), not a hand-rolled SW — standard, well-maintained, adds one new catalog dependency.
• Icon assets generated via extending the existing scripts/export-brand-icons.ts (closest existing analog), not a one-off script.
• Scope is iOS Add-to-Home-Screen first; Android/desktop install-prompt correctness is a side-effect of using vite-plugin-pwa, not separately targeted.
• PWA: generate manifest icon assets (192/512/maskable) — extended the brand-icon pipeline with PWA/maskable variants (real PNGs still pending a macOS Icon Composer run, tracked in main CI broken: desktop build fails on missing dev icon assets (only placeholder PNGs exist, untracked) #15).
• PWA: add manifest.json and iOS meta tags — added.
• PWA: integrate vite-plugin-pwa service worker — Workbox-based SW wired in.
• PWA: verify Clerk auth + relay reconnect under iOS standalone mode — code-level review found no concrete bug; flagged OAuth-redirect and long-backgrounding reconnect as real-device verification targets for PWA: verify install + standalone launch on a real iPhone #6.
• PWA: verify install + standalone launch on a real iPhone — on-device pass confirmed install/launch/auth/reconnect all work; surfaced the status-bar/toggle overlap as a follow-up (PWA standalone mode: sidebar toggle sits under iOS status bar #7).
• PWA standalone mode: sidebar toggle sits under iOS status bar — fixed via a display-mode: standalone override for --workspace-controls-top using env(safe-area-inset-top), mirroring the existing Electron .wco override (fix(web): clear iOS status bar for sidebar toggle in standalone PWA mode #14).

Not yet specified

None remaining — all fog graduated into tickets #2-#7, all closed.

Out of scope

• Push notifications, offline data sync, background sync.
• The native apps/mobile Expo/EAS iOS build (tracked separately — blocked on Expo/EAS org credentials, none found in Bitwarden).

Resolution

All 6 child tickets closed; destination reached — apps/web has a working installable PWA (manifest, service worker, icons, verified real-device install/launch/auth/reconnect, and the standalone-mode status-bar overlap fixed in #7/#14).

One follow-through gap surfaced along the way, tracked separately since it's not PWA-map scope: main CI broken: desktop build fails on missing dev icon assets — the real Icon Composer-generated PWA icons from #2 never got committed; only placeholder squares exist locally.
