I have searched the existing issues, it does not exist.
Describe the new feature you would like
On laptops, battery information can show power consumption, but on desktops battery information does not work. It would be nice if it could display the power consumption (W) of each components like the CPU, GPU, etc.
On Windows, HWiNFO could display such information, but I am not sure if there is a Linux app that can show the same information. Since it can be done on Windows, wouldn't it be possible on Linux, too?
Aside from a laptop battery, I am not sure how to display watts. One would need volts and amps. I have never seen amps listed in /sys/class/hwmon (where Vitals gets sensor info). I feel like if this was possible in Linux, it would be queried another way, and would likely 1) require root access or 2) slow down Vitals when it shells to disk. If you can find an article on how to get amps (or watts) I would consider it for Vitals.
Well, I thought many utilities that showed power usage in Watts on Windows, but I just searched for it and it seems that the common answers are that computers do not provide Watts information. I have no idea how then those utilities could show it, but maybe they were just showing estimates.
Wouldn't this be possible to realize via /sys/class/powercap/? For me this has an attribute energy_uj from which I can compute power consumption in Watts.

If it is not possible, I will close this.

It seems that
sensorscommand on Linux can show GPU's power consumption in Watts somehow, without root.corecoding commentedon Mar 24, 2023
Can you run
strace sensorsand see what path/file is exposing the AMD GPU stats? You may need to install the strace commandHubKing commentedon Mar 24, 2023
