The Amazon Video player just shows a black screen with only audio while the extension is enabled #243

Description

@jacobmgardiner

The Amazon Video player just shows a black screen with only audio while the extension is enabled. After disabling the extension, the video immediately returns to normal.

    Me too, and I can confirm it is related to this extension, disabling it there's no problem

    @cdw3423git

    I can confirm this same issue. It happens in both Firefox and Chrome browsers on a Intel I9 PC running windows 10 with a NVIDIA graphics card. Browser restart and computer restart didn't help.

    Looks like hiding the controller it's working well !

    Yup, this is definetly an issue did anyone find any work arounds?

    I had a similar problem earlier this year, and as guingui76 said, hiding the controller should fix it. The default shortcut uses "~" so just press that and the video should come back.

    Also, when I had this problem, the video didn't fully disappear (and sound still worked fine). I could still see the top sliver of the video at the bottom of the screen, meaning the video just shifted down a lot. It was the controller that essentially pushed the video down.

    I also have the problem, that Amazon Prime Video is only playing Audio + Black Screen, as long as the Video Speed Controller Overlay is visible. The moment you hide the Video Speed Controller Overlay, the Picture becomes visible. Thank you @hmmmIndeed, you are a real live saver!

    I think the picture goes black because Amazon maybe wants to stop people screen recording (which this plugin obviously does not do).

    By the Way: The Video Speed Controller still works (with hotkeys; the overlay can:t be visible).

    I would recommend putting this Info into the FAQ and call it a day.

    @Breegul

    A more permanent fix is to get the Stylus extension and add a rule to the CSS for site's starting with https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/video/

    This will fix the issue, only difference is controls will pop out vertically when you hover the overlay instead of horizontally.

    .vsc-controller {
      height: 0;
    }

    If having the controls horizontal is important then this also fixes it and preserves that:

    .vsc-controller {
      position: absolute !important;
      z-index: 99999 !important;
      width: fit-content !important;
      height: fit-content !important;
    }
