The current primary focus of the plugin is very much a Podcast Player app, based on the design choices.
Given that obsidian is a note taking application, I'd be grateful if you could make it a breeze to create a Podcast Note without needing to use the player functionality at all. Speaking for myself, it makes no sense for my use case to have no choice but to start playing an episode just to be able to create a note for it! I have a separate podcast player app, as I am sure a good chunk of other users do.
Possible approach:
A command to "create podcast note"
that doesn't only show up after you play an episode
running the command asks you to choose a podcast from the ones you added
choosing a Podcast creates a note
Maybe add a command to "Add a Podcast"
A command to "Add a Podcast & Create Note"
this could open a search box, upon adding a new podcast, we get an option to create a note immediately (or by default as a toggle option)
Thanks for the thoughtful write-up. This is now substantially addressed on current master, and the "choose a podcast from the ones you added" approach you described is essentially what shipped.
What landed:
A new command, "Create podcast feed note", creates a note for a whole podcast (the feed) and does not require playing anything. Running it opens a picker of your saved podcasts; choosing one creates (or opens) that podcast's note. I verified in a real vault that the command is available with nothing playing and no current episode, as long as you have at least one saved podcast.
You can also create a feed note, or a per-episode note, by right-clicking an episode in the list. Neither needs playback.
The one part of your suggestion that did not ship as a dedicated command is "Add a Podcast" / "Add a Podcast & Create Note". Adding a podcast is still done from PodNotes settings (search for the show), after which the feed-note command or the right-click menu creates the note. If a quick "add a podcast" entry point outside settings would be valuable to you, that is a clean focused follow-up and I am happy to consider it as its own issue.
Closing as addressed. Thanks again for the detailed suggestion.

What landed:
{{podcastlink}}tag, and both episode and feed notes ship with Obsidian Bases / Dataview friendly default templates. The player-free note workflow is a first-class path now (Add ability to create notes for podcasts (not just episodes) #163, FR: Add Obsidian Bases in default note template #160).The one part of your suggestion that did not ship as a dedicated command is "Add a Podcast" / "Add a Podcast & Create Note".
