Summary

The custom theme editor now keeps a live preview within reach while listeners choose accent colors. Classic, Pure and Material 3 palettes have clearer accent and surface roles; Pure Home separates the Your shows panel and Daily Mix cards without an outline.

Motivation

Color controls were difficult to navigate, press highlights obscured their shapes, and Pure Home mixed near-background surfaces with transparent episode cards.

What changed

  • Rebuilt the full-page editor with compact preview, role selectors, swatches, color sliders, optional fine controls and hex input; wide layouts show controls beside the preview.
  • Preserved unsaved edits through recreation, kept the last valid preview for invalid hex input, and retained explicit Save/discard behavior.
  • Refined Classic accents, kept Pure backgrounds neutral, and tuned Material 3 wallpaper primary colors without replacing wallpaper supporting colors.
  • Removed editor press ripples while retaining selected states and touch targets; replaced Pure Home outlines with solid tonal separation, including its loading state.

Behavior & compatibility

Theme preference keys, preset identities and custom seed format remain unchanged. Custom colors and artwork-derived palettes retain their existing resolution. Playback, filtering, ranking, navigation and saved listening data are unchanged.

Listener impact

What changes in the user’s life:

  • Color choices are easier to preview and adjust, and the default themes have clearer contrast between accents, panels and cards.

Release copy

CHANGELOG.md

Changed

  • Rebuild the custom theme editor with a persistent preview, accessible color controls, validated hex input and restored draft state.
  • Refine Classic, Pure and wallpaper-derived Material 3 color roles while preserving saved theme identities and custom seeds.

Fixed

  • Remove custom theme editor press ripples and separate Pure Home mix surfaces without outlines or transparent resting cards.

README What's New / Upcoming

Improvements

  • Customize your theme with a live preview, quick color choices and more precise controls.
  • Enjoy refined Classic, Pure and Material 3 colors, with clearer panels and episode cards in Pure mode.

Test plan

  • Hermetic JVM coverage for palette roles and contrast, saved theme resolution, draft restoration, invalid hex input, large text, RTL and pressed controls.
  • Native JVM rendering coverage for Pure light/dark Home panels, resting/playing episode cards and caught-up state.
  • Local formatting, Detekt, affected Android lint and debug build.
  • Debug installed on the connected phone.
  • Manual acceptance of the final combined build: Appearance → Custom, adjust each role in light/dark, save; switch to Pure and inspect Home → Your shows / Daily Mix, then select a show and return to Mix.
  • Remote CI and CodeRabbit review.

Notes

Follow-up to the artwork recovery PR. No production deployment or release is part of this change.

🟡 Minor · Update the stale CLASSIC_DYNAMIC subtitle. · Theme.kt:56

core/designsystem/src/main/java/cx/aswin/boxlore/core/designsystem/theme/Theme.kt:56
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Update the stale CLASSIC_DYNAMIC subtitle.

This PR changes the classic palette to electric violet with blue and teal accents. The settings entry for CLASSIC_DYNAMIC still says "Rich iris and seafoam on cool neutral surfaces." This string is user-visible in Appearance. It now describes the old palette. The README already uses the new description.

Proposed fix
- Entry(CLASSIC_DYNAMIC, "boxlore classic", "Rich iris and seafoam on cool neutral surfaces."),
+ Entry(CLASSIC_DYNAMIC, "boxlore classic", "Electric violet with blue and teal accents on cool neutral surfaces."),

Check whether tests or localized resources assert the old string before you change it.
