Text input overlays the chat/messages

It seems like this might be an intentional feature, based on this issue.

That said, sometimes I would like to reference the previous messages, but as I type, the text input progressively grows taller and the scroll for the messages does not compensate for the offset. This means its not possible to read the last section of the messages, and continues to get worse the more I type.

Possible solutions:

• Compensate for the offset caused by the growing text input so that its still possible to scroll to the "bottom" of the messages.
• Have a scrollable text-input with a maximum height

Or is there something I'm missing where its possible to retract the text input?
