2026-11-15: ship air-gapped install procedure or keep interim wording #60

Open

Description

@amar-python

Commitment (2026-10-04)

By 2026-11-15, either:

  • ship docs/offline-install.md with one tested dry run on a clean no-internet VM, and switch the README to the stronger "fully offline" wording; or
  • keep the interim wording: "on-premise, including air-gapped environments".

Also supports ART Framework v2 D6 / BR-37 (#49).

Done when

One of the two outcomes is on main by 2026-11-15, with the dry-run evidence attached if the first.

    Automated verification: FAIL (verify_issues.py, 2026-10-25)

docs/offline-install.md is not on main. Not yet overdue (due 2026-11-15); fails until one of the two outcomes lands.

PR #97 (merged) adds docs/offline-install.md and three scripts in scripts/offline/: a bundle builder, an installer and a smoke test, all for Ubuntu 24.04.

I rehearsed install.sh end to end inside a network namespace with only a loopback interface. It exited 0 and the smoke test passed 5/5. The doc lists how the rehearsal differed from a real VM.

Still needed to close this issue: a dry run on a clean Ubuntu 24.04 VM with no internet. Attach the evidence listed under "Evidence for #60" in the doc.

Reopened by decision of the product owner (26 Oct): no issue closes without clean evidence attached.

Still needed to close this issue: a dry run on a clean Ubuntu 24.04 VM with no internet. Attach the evidence listed under "Evidence for #60" in docs/offline-install.md:

    1. install.log showing all seven PASS lines.
    2. Proof the VM has no outside network.
    3. The bundle commit, the VM's lsb_release -d, and the date.

What's done so far: the procedure and scripts (#97, #115), plus two rehearsals in a network-isolated workspace. A rehearsal isn't a clean-VM dry run.

Progress: runbook Phase A done (28 Oct). The bundle was built in WSL Ubuntu 24.04.5 with Node v22.23.4. See #130 for the build output.

    Item Value
    Commit 2f10940
    Bundle offline-bundle-2f10940.tar.gz, 143M
    SHA-256 adcd687f2c9339748ea3c1a2600d65edfe9fffe87f889f3a3bae379739eecbe1

At runbook step C2, sha256sum -c in the offline VM must match this value.

This issue stays open. Next is Phase B, creating the VirtualBox VM. Then Phase C, the offline install, which must end with 7 PASS lines. Then Phase D, the evidence.
