Currently we don't run the tests as multisite. Actually, I'm not entirely sure that we don't run as multisite in our set up, since we just ran the multisite tests, but I suppose that perhaps we don't since we just set the bash vars per command. Anyway, the point is that currently we don't do this, and indeed, it isn't supported. For this to work I think that the wp-config.php would need to be modified to automatically enable multisite on demand, as the tests config now does. Although actually, on Travis we may already be using a copy of the tests config, I don't remember. Anyway, this is something to explore.
