Page Up/Down shifts split view horizontally #263

Description

@wwdd48s8km-bit

On Windows 11 with Edge, when using the split view with Editor and Preview, pressing Page Up or Page Down while the Editor is focused shifts the entire page to the left.

  • A large empty space appears on the right side, while the left side of the page is cut off by approximately the same amount.
  • This happens on the first Page Up/Down press and remains until the page is refreshed (F5).
  • The issue only occurs when the Editor is focused. It does not occur when the Preview is focused.
  • Other functionality continues to work as expected.

Expected: The split view should remain horizontally centered after pressing Page Up/Down.

    Hi @wwdd48s8km-bit,

I tried reproducing this on my end in split view (Editor + Preview) by focusing on the editor and pressing Page Up / Page Down, but wasn't able to see the horizontal shift.

Could you please share a few more details so we can reproduce it accurately?

    • Your screen resolution and Windows display scaling (e.g., 100%, 125%, 150%)
    • Browser zoom level in Edge
    • Does this occur with the default 'Welcome' document or does it require a file of a specific length/content?
    • The exact cursor position or selection in the editor when pressing Page Up / Page Down

    Thanks!

Thanks for reporting this issue, man.

I’m also trying to reproduce and investigate this from my side. Another person has mentioned that they couldn’t reproduce it either, and I’m currently testing different scenarios to see if there is a specific condition that triggers the problem.

It may be an actual bug, or it may depend on a particular browser, display, scaling, zoom, content, or editor state. I’m taking some time to investigate it properly.

In the meantime, if you can share any of the details asked for by @itznan above, that would really help us investigate this more accurately.

As soon as I find any useful information, I’ll share it here. If we confirm that it is a bug in the application, I’ll try to fix it as soon as possible.

    Thanks again for reporting it!

    Hi @itznan, @ThisIs-Developer,

    Sure, here are the details:

    • Windows display scaling: 100%
    • Edge zoom: 100%, but the issue also occurs at other zoom levels.
    • File/content: Occurs with any file, regardless of language, length, or content, including the default Welcome document.
    • Cursor position: Does not matter.

    Thanks!

@wwdd48s8km-bit Thank you once again for reporting this issue and for clearly pointing out the behavior that was causing the problem.

I’ve now worked on both the Page Up/Page Down issue and the smooth scrolling issue.

@wwdd48s8km-bit @itznan, if possible, please review the updated version and let me know if you notice any issue.

I’ve closed the issue for now, but if either of you finds anything still not working correctly, please report it. I can reopen this issue, or you can create a new issue if needed.

Thank you again for using Markdown Viewer.

    Happy Markdown! 🚀
