I believe I did this before to exclude .svn, .git, .gitignore, etc. from being transferred. On Mac, there are also some metadata files that start with a dot (.).
Actually, it would be better if the MMLC transfers the .htaccess file.
I have two ideas in mind:
The MMLC should be aware of all the meta files starting with a dot that it shouldn't transfer, or
The MMLC should continue to not transfer any dot files by default, but allow exceptions to be defined in the moduleinfo.json file.
I checked again. I can transfer dot files such as .htaccess. The code also specifies that invisible files (dot files) should be transferred. We have to see why it doesn't work for you but it works for me. 🤔

I just updated a
.htaccessin one of my modules and it wasn't updated via the MMLC (1.23.0-beta.1), I had to manually fix it: https://github.com/grandeljay/modified-shipping-label/blob/main/src/includes/external/grandeljay/shipping-label/labels/.htaccess
