Merge Risk: High

This is a major version upgrade from v2 to v6, which includes multiple significant breaking changes. Direct action is required to migrate.

Key Breaking Changes:

  • onFID() is Removed: The onFID() function, used for measuring First Input Delay, was deprecated in v4 and completely removed in v5. It must be replaced with onINP() to measure the modern Interaction to Next Paint metric.
  • API Removals and Renaming:
    • All getXXX() functions (e.g., getLCP, getCLS), which were deprecated in v3, were removed in v4.0.0.
    • Many properties in the attribution objects were renamed in v4.0.0 for clarity (e.g., resourceLoadTime is now resourceLoadDuration, and several *Time fields are now *Duration). Code that inspects these attribution details will break.
  • Browser Support: v5.0.0 changed the browser support policy to only support browsers with "Baseline Widely available" features, dropping support for older legacy browsers.
  • Soft Navigation Support: v6.0.0 introduced support for soft navigations, which can change how metrics are reported in Single Page Applications (SPAs).

Recommendation:
Developers must replace any usage of onFID() with onINP(). Review all code that uses web-vitals to check for removed getXXX() functions and renamed attribution properties. Thoroughly test your analytics implementation after upgrading, especially
