can't compile release

It appears that you have to compile via a git clone. If you download the release (e.g. wget https://github.com/OpenFastPath/ofp/archive/3.0.0.tar.gz), extract, and then run bootstrap, you get the error:

configure.ac:2: warning: AC_INIT: not a literal: and not inside a git repository
configure.ac:2: Bailing out! Not recoverable!

Unfortunately, the releases haven't been updated for quite some time. One should use the latest master brach code as you have already noticed.
