Summary

  • In online co-op, a vehicle no player drives is held still between the host's updates, then snapped to the next position. The velocity in that update is the vehicle's physics velocity. A recording swings that velocity about the path, and the next position pulls the vehicle back. The lifepods crossing the sky on Halo do this. The client now carries the vehicle by the step between the positions the host already sent. A jump further than one step of that path stays where the host put it.
  • The host's word that the vehicle is at rest stops that step. The step is kept only for the last gap between positions, so a late word does not keep a warthog sinking or a Pelican moving past its landing.
  • The messages are unchanged.

Test plan

  • Start online co-op on Halo and watch the lifepods in the sky. They follow their path without jumping back and forth.
  • Play Halo in local campaign. Those lifepods look the same as before.
  • In online co-op, a Pelican with an AI pilot still flies its path and stops on its landing.
  • An empty warthog stays where the host left it, including on the ground.
  • A vehicle a player drives is unchanged.
