A community wiki for the OpenMBEE and OpenSysML ecosystems β documenting, sharing, and improving practices and models for Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Digital Engineering.
Welcome to the opensysml.github.io wiki! This is the front door to the OpenSysML community β the place to bring together practitioners, tool builders, researchers, and newcomers working with SysML, OpenMBEE, and related MBSE tooling. Whether you're comparing digital thread strategies, learning how a modeling pattern works, or just getting started with systems engineering, this wiki is where you find your way around, learn how things work, and discover resources maintained by the group.

This wiki supports two closely related communities:
| Community | Focus |
|---|---|
| OpenMBEE | Open-source Model-Based Engineering Environment β tooling for managing, integrating, and publishing systems models |
| OpenSysML | Practices, extensions, and open documentation around the SysML modeling language (v1 and v2) |
Together, this wiki is a home for:
- Modeling patterns and reusable model libraries
- Tool workflow notes (Cameo, MagicDraw, Papyrus, MMS, etc.)
- Approaches to Digital Engineering and the digital thread
- Troubleshooting and technical reference material
- Case studies and lessons learned
- Standards, extensions, and best practices
New here? Start with these steps:
- Read the Community Guidelines below.
- Browse the Wiki Pages to see what's already documented.
- Check the Topic Areas to find content relevant to your work.
- Search before you write β many topics may already be covered on an existing page.
- Contribute! Fixing a typo, adding a resource link, or writing up a pattern you use are all welcome.

| Area | Description |
|---|---|
| MBSE Best Practices | Modeling patterns, architecture frameworks, style guides |
| SysML v1 / v2 | Language reference, migration notes, spec discussion |
| OpenMBEE Tooling | MMS, View Editor, model management, integrations |
| Digital Engineering | Digital thread, digital twin, model-based data exchange |
| Tools & Interop | Cameo, MagicDraw, Papyrus, and cross-tool workflows |
| Case Studies | Real-world project write-ups and lessons learned |
| Troubleshooting | Setup issues, error messages, "how do Iβ¦" reference notes |
| Announcements | Community news, releases, and events |
- Be respectful. Assume good intent and disagree constructively.
- Stay on topic. Keep pages focused on MBSE, SysML, and Digital Engineering.
- Search first. Check existing pages before adding a new one on the same topic.
- Share context. Include tool versions, model snippets, or diagrams β it makes pages more useful to future readers.
- Give credit. If you're documenting someone else's model, pattern, or write-up, link back to the source.
- No spam or self-promotion outside of designated announcement areas.
- OpenMBEE β official project site
- OMG SysML Specification β language specification
- SysML v2 Submission Team β next-gen SysML development
- INCOSE β systems engineering body of knowledge
- Community-maintained model libraries and example projects (linked as they're contributed)
Have a resource to add? See Contributing to This Wiki below.
This wiki is community-maintained. To contribute:
- Fork or clone the wiki repository.
- Add or edit a page using standard Markdown.
- Keep pages focused β one topic per page, linked back to this Home page.
- Open a pull request (or push directly, if you have write access) with a short description of your change.
- Tag a maintainer if you're proposing a new top-level section.
Is this wiki affiliated with the OMG or INCOSE? No β it's an independent community resource for practitioners in the OpenMBEE and OpenSysML ecosystems.
Do I need to be an expert to contribute? Not at all. Beginner-friendly pages and clarifications are welcome and encouraged.
Where do I report a bug in OpenMBEE itself? Use the appropriate OpenMBEE GitHub repository's issue tracker rather than this wiki.
Maintained by the OpenSysML community. Suggest an edit any time.
