Peace vignette: 'cumulative since 1951' warming range is the window difference, not Total Change #148

Open

Description

@NewGraphEnvironment

If we do it: the Peace article's warming range means what its own trend table calls cumulative. If we never do: a reader who checks it against the Total Change column finds the article understating it by about half a degree.

Problem

vignettes/peace-fwcp.Rmd:857, in Interpretation: "All five ecoregions warmed between +1.7 °C and +1.9 °C cumulative since 1951".

The article defines cumulative as "Total Change", slope × years (cd_summary(), R/cd_summary.R:82). Measured on the committed inst/vignette-data/peace_fwcp.rds, the 1.7–1.9 range is the window difference (2015–2025 mean minus 1951–1980 mean), not slope × years:

ecoregion window Δ (°C) slope × years (°C)
OMM 1.92 2.39
BMP 1.89 2.25
CRM 1.74 2.14
FAB 1.71 2.19
NRM 1.79 2.19

The Kootenay article had the same sentence. #146 reworded it to "warmer in 2015–2025 than in 1951–1980" and computes the range inline.

Proposed Solution

Reword it the same way and compute the range inline from vignette_data$ecoregion with cd::cd_compare(). Check the "near +0.25 °C per decade" in the same sentence too.

Found by the plan review for #146.
